Winner 1998
Producer Robert Halmi Sr. is a dreamer and more important, a doer, in times when network television sorely needs both. In the past several seasons, Mr. Halmi has stood virtually alone as a true impresario of the small screen. His 1996 adaptation of Gulliver’s Travels for NBC was considered a giant gamble by both the network and assorted naysayers. But the four-hour production’s critical and commercial success instead spurred equally ambitious Halmi productions, such as The Odyssey, Merlin, Moby Dick and Alice in Wonderland. “I’m filling a void more than anything else,” Mr. Halmi has said. “Nobody else is doing these things—and these things should be done. Television is made for telling big stories, not for doing shallow stuff and satisfying the lowest common denominator.” At age 75, Mr. Halmi is still going stronger than most producers half his age. Projects in the works include Don Quixote, Animal Farm, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jason and the Argonauts, The Raven, Dante’s Inferno and an original 10-hour fantasy-drama titled The 10th Kingdom. Before becoming a television producer in the 1960s, Mr. Halmi fought the Nazis as a member of the Hungarian Resistance. Twice captured and liberated, he emigrated to the United States after the war and became a preeminent photographer and writer for LIFE magazine. His earlier TV productions including the classic CBS miniseries Lonesome Dove, which won a Peabody in 1989. Mr. Halm is currently chairman of the board of Hallmark Entertainment, which he runs with his son, Robert Halmi Jr. Today we are proud to present a personal Peabody Award to Robert Halmi Sr. for his extraordinary vision and exemplary television productions. Robert Halmi
Robert Halmi (Sr.) (Hungarian: Halmi Róbert; 1924–2014) was a Hungarian-born photographer for LIFE and other magazines. After 1974, with the decline in magazine photojournalism he became an Emmy Award-winning producer of movies and mini-series for television.
Early life
Robert Halmi was born in Budapest on 22 January 1924. His father, Béla Halmi, was a photographer and brought up his son after he divorced while Robert was young. He had photographic commissions with the Habsburg royal family and the Vatican. Consequently, Robert was familiar with photographic processes from an early age.
Photographer
A freedom fighter for Hungary during the Second World War, Halmi was jailed by the Nazis. After the war, in 1946, he graduated in economics from the University of Budapest and, with his knowledge of English, got work assisting and translating for a Time-Life reporter in Budapest. He took up photography, freelancing for American newspapers, but this brought him under suspicion from the Communist government and was briefly jailed again. On release he worked for Radio Free Europe in Austria as a broadcaster. There, he photographed black-shrouded women mourners, a picture later selected by Edward Steichen for MoMA's world-touring The Family of Man exhibition.

Back to the Secret Garden
Back to the Secret Garden is a 2001 family fantasy film. Produced for television, the film serves as a sequel to the 1987 Hallmark Hall of Fame film, The Secret Garden. It contains some of the previous characters such as Lady Mary and Sir Colin Craven, who are now married, and Martha Sowerby, who is now the mistress of Misselthwaite Manor, which has become an orphanage for children whose parents died in World War II. They had appeared as children in the original story some 40 years earlier, and are now middle aged adults.
Dickon does not return, as he died while fighting in the war.
Plot
In 1946, Lady Mary Craven (Cherie Lunghi) visits an American orphanage, telling the children about an exchange program that will allow one child to travel to England and stay at Misselthwaite Manor, which is now an orphanage. She meets young Lizzie Buscana (Camilla Belle), who is in the garden trying to take care of her mother's rose bush. Lady Mary tells Lizzie about the exchange program and the secret garden, whereupon Lizzie agrees to participate so she can see the garden for herself.

Robert
The name Robert is a Germanic given name, from Proto-Germanic *χrōþi- "fame" and *berχta- "bright". Compare Old Dutch Robrecht and Old High German Hrodebert (a compound of hruod "fame, glory" and berht "bright"). It is also in use as a surname.
After becoming widely used in Continental Europe it entered England in its Old French form Robert, where an Old English cognate form (Hrēodbēorht, Hrodberht, Hrēodbēorð, Hrœdbœrð, Hrœdberð) had existed before the Norman Conquest. The feminine version is Roberta. The Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish form is Roberto.
Similar to the name, Richard, "Robert" is also a common name in many Germanic languages, including English, German, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Icelandic. It can be used as a French, Hungarian, Finnish, and Estonian name as well.

Halmeu (Hungarian: Halmi, Hungarian pronunciation: [hɒlmi]; Yiddish: האַַלמין) is a commune of 4,845 inhabitants situated in Satu Mare County, Romania. It is composed of five villages:
Until World War II, the village was home to a Jewish community, which numbered 479 souls in 1877. The commune included two other villages until 2005, when they were split off to form Porumbeşti Commune.
Demographics
In 1910, 97.6% reported Hungarian as their primary language. The religious make-up was 1196 Calvinists (34.6%), 1061 Jewish (30.7%) and 613 Roman Catholic (17.7%).
Ethnic groups (2011 census):
According to mother tongue, 57.80% of the population speak Hungarian as first language, while 36.50% speak Romanian.

Producer Robert Halmi Sr. is a dreamer and more important, a doer, in times when network television sorely needs both. In the past several seasons, Mr. Halmi has stood virtually alone as a true impresario of the small screen. His 1996 adaptation of Gulliver’s Travels for NBC was considered a giant gamble by both the network and assorted naysayers. But the four-hour production’s critical and commercial success instead spurred equally ambitious Halmi productions, such as The Odyssey, Merlin, Moby Dick and Alice in Wonderland. “I’m filling a void more than anything else,” Mr. Halmi has said. “Nobody else is doing these things—and these things should be done. Television is made for telling big stories, not for doing shallow stuff and satisfying the lowest common denominator.” At age 75, Mr. Halmi is still going stronger than most producers half his age. Projects in the works include Don Quixote, Animal Farm, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jason and the Argonauts, The Raven, Dante’s Inferno and an original 10-hour fantasy-drama titled The 10th Kingdom. Before becoming a television producer in the 1960s, Mr. Halmi fought the Nazis as a member of the Hungarian Resistance. Twice captured and liberated, he emigrated to the United States after the war and became a preeminent photographer and writer for LIFE magazine. His earlier TV productions including the classic CBS miniseries Lonesome Dove, which won a Peabody in 1989. Mr. Halm is currently chairman of the board of Hallmark Entertainment, which he runs with his son, Robert Halmi Jr. Today we are proud to present a personal Peabody Award to Robert Halmi Sr. for his extraordinary vision and exemplary television productions. He is a showman in the truest and best sense of the word.

Television is made for telling big stories, not for doing shallow stuff and satisfying the lowest common denominator.” At age 75, Mr. Halmi is still going stronger than most producers half his age. Projects in the works include Don Quixote, Animal Farm, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jason and the Argonauts, The Raven, Dante’s Inferno and an original 10-hour fantasy-drama titled The 10th Kingdom. Before becoming a television producer in the 1960s, Mr. Halmi fought the Nazis as a member of the Hungarian Resistance. Twice captured and liberated, he emigrated to the United States after the war and became a preeminent photographer and writer for LIFE magazine. His earlier TV productions including the classic CBS miniseries Lonesome Dove, which won a Peabody in 1989. Mr. Halm is currently chairman of the board of Hallmark Entertainment, which he runs with his son, Robert Halmi Jr. Today we are proud to present a personal Peabody Award to Robert Halmi Sr. for his extraordinary vision and exemplary television productions. He is a showman in the truest and best sense of the word.

Producer Robert Halmi Sr. is a dreamer and more important, a doer, in times when network television sorely needs both. In the past several seasons, Mr. Halmi has stood virtually alone as a true impresario of the small screen. His 1996 adaptation of Gulliver’s Travels for NBC was considered a giant gamble by both the network and assorted naysayers. But the four-hour production’s critical and commercial success instead spurred equally ambitious Halmi productions, such as The Odyssey, Merlin, Moby Dick and Alice in Wonderland. “I’m filling a void more than anything else,” Mr. Halmi has said. “Nobody else is doing these things—and these things should be done. Television is made for telling big stories, not for doing shallow stuff and satisfying the lowest common denominator.” At age 75, Mr. Halmi is still going stronger than most producers half his age. Projects in the works include Don Quixote, Animal Farm, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jason and the Argonauts, The Raven, Dante’s Inferno and an original 10-hour fantasy-drama titled The 10th Kingdom. Before becoming a television producer in the 1960s, Mr. Halmi fought the Nazis as a member of the Hungarian Resistance. Twice captured and liberated, he emigrated to the United States after the war and became a preeminent photographer and writer for LIFE magazine. His earlier TV productions including the classic CBS miniseries Lonesome Dove, which won a Peabody in 1989. Mr. Halm is currently chairman of the board of Hallmark Entertainment, which he runs with his son, Robert Halmi Jr. Today we are proud to present a personal Peabody Award to Robert Halmi Sr. for his extraordinary vision and exemplary television productions. Robert (Aled Roberts) makes fun of Lizzie (Camilla Belle) and her affection for the Secret Garden.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Although Frances Hodgson Burnett did not feel the need to write a sequel to her classic fantasy novel The Secret Garden, this did not prevent producer Norman Rosemont from commissioning just such a sequel. Set in 1946, Back to the Secret Garden finds Mary Lennox, the youthful heroine of the original novel, all grown up and far removed from her beloved enchanted garden in Yorkshire's Mistlewaith Manor. Now living in New York, Mary comes in contact with Lizzie (Camilla Belle), a feisty Brooklyn-born orphan. It is Lizzie who tries to save the day by heading off to England and endeavoring to save Mary's secret garden, which has been literally dying in its caregiver's absence. Joan Plowright, George Baker, Cherie Lunghi, and Leigh Lawson co-star in this German-British co-production, which was originally intended for theatrical release. The American premiere of Back to the Secret Garden appeared on the Showtime Cable Network on September 2, 2001 -- nearly two years after the film's completion.

Dinotopia is a four-hour (three-episode) TV miniseries co-produced by Walt Disney Television and Hallmark Entertainment. It is based on the fictional world of Dinotopia, a utopia in which sentient dinosaurs and humans coexist, created by American author James Gurney. The miniseries uses plot details from Gurney's first two Dinotopia books, Dinotopia and Dinotopia: The World Beneath, although it takes place in a time farther into the future. The main characters are two American teenage boys from a contemporary time frame (unlike the Victorian era castaways in the books—the film thus loses some of the Steampunk and classicism of the original books).[1] The boys crash their father's plane into the sea and get stranded on Dinotopia, where they must adjust to a new society. The story in the film contains references to many of the characters in the book series, with some of their descendents occupying key roles in the plot. The original score was composed by Trevor Jones.
The miniseries premiered as an episode of The Wonderful World of Disney anthology on May 12, 2002 on Disney Channel. It received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special. It was soon followed by a television series which only lasted for one season.
PLOT:
A pair of teenage half brothers, Karl and David Scott, are on a flight with their father on his private plane when Karl takes over the controls, allowing his father to fall asleep. After flying into a storm, Karl struggles, causing Frank to retake control before it crashes into the ocean. Frank saves his sons, but had trouble escaping the crashed plane as his seatbelt failed to release. Karl and David wash up on the shore of a large uncharted island. Looking for help, Karl and David meet a man named Cyrus Crabb who leads them to Waterfall City, the capital of Dinotopia, a hidden civilization where human beings and dinosaurs peacefully coexist. In fact, some of the dinosaurs, notably a neurotic, but friendly Troodon named Zipeau, possess human intelligence and speaks perfect English. Among the many rules in Dinotopia is the edict that, once an outsider arrived, he or she was never allowed to leave. As Karl and David prepare to take their places in their new surroundings, both boys develop a strong bond with young Marion, who is on the verge of becoming a "matriarch" of the Dinotopian society. Unfortunately, the incursion of vicious carnivores, not to mention an unanticipated human villain, threaten to destroy Dinotopia and everyone living there.
