This is a fun and easy baby blanket tutorial using 2 big balls of Bernat Baby Yarn in a bulky, chenille type yarn making it super soft and spongy but still light weight. A great texture for babies and this blanket is beginner friendly with all the steps shown for this simple crocheted blanket.
Make sure you get the big ball of yarn, its 300g, 10.5 oz, 258 yards, 234 m
If you want to make it larger… make the foundation chain as long as you like, just make sure it is a multiple of 6 for example 60, 66, 72 etc.

Materials:
- Finished Size: 70 wide x 65 (You'll notice it finishes wider than the foundation chain because of the weight of the yarn it stretches out).
- 6 skeins of size 5 or 6 yarn in each color. I used Loops and Threads - yarn (sold at Michaels). Bernat Sofftee Chunky is very similar! any other thicker size 5 or 6 yarn with slight texture will give you a similar result. I linked the Bernat, so you can see what it looks like.
-Size Q or 16 mm crochet hook. Also known as a speed hook.
-smaller crochet hook for weaving in ends
-scissors for triming

Instructions
1. Take 2 strands at the same time and make a slip knot. Tighten around the hook.
2. Chain 70 chains... or 50 inches with very little tension.
3. hdc in 3rd chain from hook and repeat in each chain all the way down, use very little tension at this point, it will help you down the line.
4. Ch 2 and turn.
5. hdc in 2nd stitch over from edge of the blanket and continue in each stitch. Be sure to get the hdc in that last turning chain stitch.
6. Ch 2 and turn
7.Repeat until you run out of that color yarn.
-When you run out of yarn, I did not run out at the same time. Tie the 2 ends (the yarn you are using and the new yarn) and continue. Don't forget to weave in all the little ends later. When you run out of the next skein of yarn, attache the next skein. This way the tails to be weaved in will be staggered and unnoticeable.
8. When you finish a row of color 1 and don't have enough to complete another row, add your new color when you make your last hdc. WHen you have the 3 loops on your hook for that last stitch, add the 2 strands on your hook and pull through. Tighten everything up, chain 2 and turn continuing on like we have been.
9. Continue adding skeins of yarn and change to your 3rd color and crochet until you can fully complete a row and cannot complete another.
10. Weave in all the ends very well.

DIY: It's getting very cold outside here in Missouri and we decided to make some No Sew Fleece Blankets to help keep us warm.These are super simple to make and would be a great family project to do together. Imogen Jennifer Jane Heap (

She is known for her work as part of the musical duo Frou Frou and her solo albums, which she writes, produces, and mixes. I just love crafting and shaping sounds. Actually, many of the sounds that I work with start off as organic instruments - guitar, piano, clarinet, etc. But I do love the rigidity of electronic drums... I would record live drums, and then I would spend a day editing them to take the life out of them. I like to breathe my own life into these sounds, and I do try to keep the 'air' in the music. Some people think electronic music is cold, but I think that has more to do with the people listening than the actual music itself.

This is a fun and easy baby blanket tutorial using 2 big balls of Bernat Baby Yarn in a bulky, chenille type yarn making it super soft and spongy but still light weight. A great texture for babies and this blanket is beginner friendly with all the steps shown for this simple crocheted blanket.
Make sure you get the big ball of yarn, its 300g, 10.5 oz, 258 yards, 234 m
If you want to make it larger… make the foundation chain as long as you like, just make sure it is a multiple of 6 for example 60, 66, 72 etc.

Materials:
- Finished Size: 70 wide x 65 (You'll notice it finishes wider than the foundation chain because of the weight of the yarn it stretches out).
- 6 skeins of size 5 or 6 yarn in each color. I used Loops and Threads - yarn (sold at Michaels). Bernat Sofftee Chunky is very similar! any other thicker size 5 or 6 yarn with slight texture will give you a similar result. I linked the Bernat, so you can see what it looks like.
-Size Q or 16 mm crochet hook. Also known as a speed hook.
-smaller crochet hook for weaving in ends
-scissors for triming

Instructions
1. Take 2 strands at the same time and make a slip knot. Tighten around the hook.
2. Chain 70 chains... or 50 inches with very little tension.
3. hdc in 3rd chain from hook and repeat in each chain all the way down, use very little tension at this point, it will help you down the line.
4. Ch 2 and turn.
5. hdc in 2nd stitch over from edge of the blanket and continue in each stitch. Be sure to get the hdc in that last turning chain stitch.
6. Ch 2 and turn
7.Repeat until you run out of that color yarn.
-When you run out of yarn, I did not run out at the same time. Tie the 2 ends (the yarn you are using and the new yarn) and continue. Don't forget to weave in all the little ends later. When you run out of the next skein of yarn, attache the next skein. This way the tails to be weaved in will be staggered and unnoticeable.
8. When you finish a row of color 1 and don't have enough to complete another row, add your new color when you make your last hdc. Instructions:
Materials Needed:
• 2 yards each of 2 complementing fleece fabrics
• Scissors
• Ruler
First, trim off the selvage of both fleeces. Line the two fleeces together with the right side facing the outside. Pin the fleeces together to help keep them in place (this is optional).
Using the ruler, cut 5 by 5 inch squares out of the four corners. Cut 5 inch strips 1 inch wide along all four sides of the fleece. You can use the ruler to make sure the lines are straight.
Tie two pieces of opposite fringe together into a knot by looping it through and pushing upwards. Finish tying the fringe into knots on all four sides of the blanket.

The Blanket is about 27 inches by 38 1/2 inches Long, with a total of 125 Rows:
- First color 30 rows
- Second color 20 rows
- First color again 25 rows
- Second color 20 rows
- First color 30 rows
Materials:
- 3 Balls of yarn. I used 2 balls (each 104 yds/95 m) of Country Loom in the color Shale and one ball of Waverly for Bernat (197 yds/180 m) in the color Birch White. I doubled up my white yarn.
- A Long Loom (my loom has 54 pegs)
- A Knitting Hook
- A Crochet Hook
- Scissors

You can make this into a baby blanket, throw, full size blanket, or even king size blanket. You choose the size by simply following the instructions given in the video to reach your desired width and length. There is no need to be able to read patterns to complete this project. It is great for all ages. The blanket features 2 colors. The pattern looks almost like an open weave. Follow along with me and complete one for yourself or a loved one. Only simple stitches used. Most complicated is a picot, which I demonstrate for you. This pattern can also be used for scarfs, headbands, blankets, shawls, throws, blankets, etc. Great for women, boys, men, or whoever likes to be warm and cozy. This pattern uses basic stitches such as the chain and double crochet.

I bought three hanks of each (but only used 2 of the cream), using size 7 US (4.5mm) needles. After machine washing and drying, my blanket is 40" square, with a gauge of 4.5 stitches per inch.
The bulky yarn I used for demonstration is Lion Brand Hometown USA. I demonstrated using size 13 US (9mm) needles.

Gauge: Gauge isn't super important with this blanket, but each chevron peak = 5 inches across and 3 inches from top of peak to base line (if a straight line had been drawn from tip to tip).

(Substitute yarn: U.S. Medium Worsted Weight Category 4 Yarn)
You'll need 1,920 metres/2,096 yards of yarn to make the same size blanket as mine.
6.5mm/USK10.5 Crochet Hook

142 cms/56 inches long x 135 cms/53 inches wide
Stitches & Terms
This pattern is using U.S. stitches and terms.
BL = Back Loop
ch = chain
ch-2 = 2 chain stitches on row below at end of row you are working on
FL = Front Loop
foundation chain = the total amount of chain stitches to start your blanket
hdc = half double crochet
hk = hook
rep = repeat
st = stitch
stitch count = the amount of stitches that you have crocheted over an entire row
sts = stitches
turn = turn your work so you can crochet your next row
turning chain = 1 or more chain stitches made at the start of a row to bring the yarn up to height of the stitch you are about to crochet on the following row
Notes: The 2 chain stitches made at the start of a row do not count as a stitch and therefore you do not crochet any stitch into the top of these 2 chain stitches when you come to the end of a row. If you do crochet stitches into the top of the 2 chain stitches your blanket sides will become uneven and not straight.
When crocheting with the half double crochet stitch the chain 2 NEVER counts as a stitch, the 2 chain stitches are purely used for the purpose of bringing the yarn up to the height you need to start crocheting the half double crochet stitch.
To alter the size of this blanket pattern you can add as many chain stitches to your foundation chain; make an even amount of chain stitches. If you are making the blanket for a particular piece of furniture, make your foundation chain to the width you want and check the width by laying over the piece of furniture so you know it's the correct size. To get the length right, follow the pattern rows until you have the right length that you need.
To start the blanket, leave a 30 cm yarn tail and make your foundation chain to the width you want. If you are making the same size of mine, ch 152 loosely.
Row 1: 1 hdc into 3rd ch from the hk, 1 hdc into each ch st across to the end. (150 sts)
Note: If you started off with a different amount of chain stitches on your foundation chain to mine then at the end of Row 1 your stitch count will be 2 less than the amount you started off with on your foundation chain. For Example: You made a foundation chain of 302 ch sts, then at the end of Row 1 you will have 300 sts because 2 ch sts are skipped at the start of Row 1 to create a turning chain to bring your yarn up to the height for the half double crochet stitches you have crocheted. The amount of stitches you have at the end of Row 1 will remain the same right throughout the pattern now so at the end of all following rows you will have the same amount of stitches on every row providing you DO NOT add stitches into the top of the 2 chain stitches at the end of rows.
Row 2: ch 2, turn, 1 hdc into FL of 1st st, 1 hdc into FL of each st across to the end; making your last st into FL of last hdc (not into the ch-2).
