DDR4 is the latest step forward for synchronous DRAM which is the memory technology found in desktop or notebook computer or game console, as well as servers that power websites and services like Facebook or Dropbox.
Physical Features
DDR4 modules don’t look different at a glance but there are some subtle differences. DDR4 RAM is not backwards compatible with DDR3 motherboards and vice versa. The notch has been moved to prevent accidental insertion of the wrong type of memory. Instead of 240 pins, each module features 288 pins. And to improve strength and electrical contact there is slight curve in the shape of the bottom of the PCB.
Faster Speeds
As far as the technological differences DDR4 has faster speeds, starting 2133MHz, which would be fairly high end for DDR3. Planned speed increases that could take it well beyond 3200MHz!
Reduced Power Consumption
DDR4 is more efficient that DDR3, consuming up to 40% less power, requiring only 1.2V per module. This is a great benefit for notebooks, providing longer battery life.
Increased Capacity
Memory capacity of DDR4’s support for higher density chips and stacking technologies that may allow for single memory modules with capacities as high 512GB.
Improved Reliability
With improved cyclic redundancy checks, on-chip parity detection of “command and address” transfers, as well as enhanced signal integrity, DDR4 is the most reliable DDR yet.
Compatible with Intel X99 motherboards

Today we're going to get a quick run down of Wendell's experiences with the Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 kit. DDR-3200 is quite a bit faster than the "default" speed of DDR4-2133 -- and we were able to push this kit to DDR4-3400 without any trouble. So we've got the clocks on this kit -- the fastest kit we've tested to date -- but is that all that matters?
No! Turns out that, curiously, DDR4-3000 with 16-16-16-18 timings was the fastest configuration on the bechmarks!

In computing, DDR4 SDRAM, an abbreviation for double data rate type four synchronous dynamic random-access memory, is a type of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) with a high bandwidth interface currently under development and expected to be released to market in 2012. As a "next generation" successor to DDR3 SDRAM, it is one of several variants of DRAM which have been in use since the early 1970s. It is not directly compatible with any earlier type of random access memory (RAM) due to different signaling voltages, timings, physical interface, and other factors.
DDR4 itself is a DRAM interface specification. Its primary benefits compared to DDR3 include a higher range of clock frequencies and data transfer rates (2133–4266 MT/s compared to DDR3's 800–2133) and significantly lower voltage (1.05–1.2 V for DDR4, compared to 1.2–1.5 V for DDR3). DDR4 also anticipates a change in topology – it discards dual, triple and quad channel approaches in favor of point-to-point where each channel in the memory controller is connected to a single module. Switched memory banks are also an anticipated option for servers.

DDR4 is the latest step forward for synchronous DRAM which is the memory technology found in desktop or notebook computer or game console, as well as servers that power websites and services like Facebook or Dropbox.
Physical Features
DDR4 modules don’t look different at a glance but there are some subtle differences. DDR4 RAM is not backwards compatible with DDR3 motherboards and vice versa. The notch has been moved to prevent accidental insertion of the wrong type of memory. Instead of 240 pins, each module features 288 pins. And to improve strength and electrical contact there is slight curve in the shape of the bottom of the PCB.
Faster Speeds
As far as the technological differences DDR4 has faster speeds, starting 2133MHz, which would be fairly high end for DDR3. Planned speed increases that could take it well beyond 3200MHz!
Reduced Power Consumption
DDR4 is more efficient that DDR3, consuming up to 40% less power, requiring only 1.2V per module. This is a great benefit for notebooks, providing longer battery life.
Increased Capacity
Memory capacity of DDR4’s support for higher density chips and stacking technologies that may allow for single memory modules with capacities as high 512GB.
Improved Reliability
With improved cyclic redundancy checks, on-chip parity detection of “command and address” transfers, as well as enhanced signal integrity, DDR4 is the most reliable DDR yet.
Compatible with Intel X99 motherboards
HyperX Predator memory modules’ performance is pre-optimized when you select the XMP profile. Their optimized for Intel’s X99 platform which feature core i7 6 core or 8 core CPUs. The HyperX’s signature tall, black heatsink complements any X99 motherboard perfectly.

Disclaimer - My DDR3 modules are not 2400 modules so there is a slight unfair advantage to the DDR4 however this does not discount the speed that DDR4 actually is. The comparison is not expected to be a definitive speed comparison but more or less an overall performance boost concept. Many people are still using 1600mhz RAM and base speed of DDR3 is 1333mhz where base speed of DDR4 is 2133 so I could not have slowed down the DDR4 to match the 2000mhz speed even if I wanted to. Take this video for what it is, DDR4 benchmarks with some DDR3 compared.
