In local government, a city hall, town hall, civic centre, (in the UK or Australia) a guildhall, a Rathaus (German), or (more rarely) a municipal building, is the chief administrative building of a city, town, or other municipality. It usually houses the city or town council, its associated departments, and their employees. It also usually functions as the base of the mayor of a city, town, borough, or county / shire.
By convention, until the mid 19th-century, a single large open chamber (or 'hall') formed an integral part of the building housing the council. The hall may be used for council meetings and other significant events. This large chamber, the 'town hall', (and its later variant 'city hall') has become synonymous with the whole building, and with the administrative body housed in it. The terms 'council chambers', 'municipal building' or variants may be used locally in preference to 'town hall' if no such large hall is present within the building.
The local government may endeavor to use the town hall building to promote and enhance the quality of life of the community. In many cases, "'town halls' serve not only as buildings for government functions, but also have facilities for various civic and cultural activities. These may include art shows, stage performances, exhibits and festivals. Modern town halls or "civic centres" are often designed with a great variety and flexibility of purpose in mind.
Albany City Hall is the seat of government of the city of Albany, New York. It houses the office of the mayor, the Common Council chamber, the city and traffic courts, as well as other city services. The current building was designed by Henry Hobson Richardson in his particular Romanesque style and opened in 1883 at 24 Eagle Street between Corning Place (then Maiden Lane) and Pine Street. It is a rectangular, three-and-a-half-story building with a 202-foot (62 m) tall tower at its southwest corner. The tower contains one of the only municipal carillons in the country.
Albany's first city hall was the Stadt Huys, built by the Dutch at the intersection of Broadway and Hudson Avenue probably in the 1660s, though possibly earlier. It was probably replaced around 1740 with a larger building, which continued to be known as the Stadt Huys. In 1754, the Stadt Huys was the location of the Albany Congress, where Benjamin Franklin presented the Albany Plan of Union, the first proposal to unite the British American colonies. In 1797 Albany was declared the state capital of New York and the New York Legislature made its home in Albany's city hall. In 1809 the Legislature opened the first New York State Capitol and Albany's government moved in with the Legislature. After purchasing a plot of land at the eastern terminus of Washington Avenue, across Eagle Street from the capitol, the city government moved into a new city hall designed by Philip Hooker in 1832.
Albany often refers to:
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
A city is a large and permanent human settlement. Although there is no agreement on how a city is distinguished from a town in general English language meanings, many cities have a particular administrative, legal, or historical status based on local law.
Cities generally have complex systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and transportation. The concentration of development greatly facilitates interaction between people and businesses, benefiting both parties in the process, but it also presents challenges to managing urban growth.
A big city or metropolis usually has associated suburbs and exurbs. Such cities are usually associated with metropolitan areas and urban areas, creating numerous business commuters traveling to urban centers for employment. Once a city expands far enough to reach another city, this region can be deemed a conurbation or megalopolis. In terms of population, the largest city proper is Shanghai, while the fastest-growing is Dubai.
There is not enough evidence to assert what conditions gave rise to the first cities. Some theorists have speculated on what they consider suitable pre-conditions and basic mechanisms that might have been important driving forces.
Albany City Hall, designed by Henry Hobson Richardson is regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings in America. Has 202' tower with carillons, constructed with granite and brownstone with intricate carvings, completed in 1883, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Outside and interior views including Council Chamber.
The NYPD is pushing back after criticism from Governor Cuomo and MTA Chairman Joe Lhota, who accused the de Blasio administration of failing to deal with homelessness on the subway. CBS2's Tony Aiello reports.
I apologize for the inverted video at the end. Interactions start at 2:34. On Jan. 21, 2014, I went to the Albany City Hall to conduct business with the Albany County Clerk's office. I began this encounter inquiring about my being required to walk through the metal detector to conduct my business in the public building. I was informed that I did have to submit to the metal detector before being allowed into City Hall. I inquired about receiving a written copy of that law or policy and was told to speak to a Capt. Rodriguez located a few buildings over. Upon completion of the screening process, I read the names and badge numbers off the shirts of the officers manning the security station (Jenkins 771 and Kendricks 528). Kendricks made a comment about my being able to count, at which ...

If you want to read more about my trip to New York please go to: http://www.travelandtransitions.com/our-travel-blog/new-york-city-2010/ On September 2 we drove out of Brooklyn via the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and had a relaxing drive through New Jersey into Upper New York State. We stopped near New Paltz to play a round of golf at the scenic Apple Greens Golf Club and arrived in the late afternoon back in Troy where we checked in at the Olde Judge Mansion for another two nights. After baking in the hot sun for three days we were definitely in need of a good rest. The next day we played some tennis ourselves at one of the many courts in Troy's Prospect Park. Unfortunately the quality was not quite in the same league as that at the US Open, but at least we got some exercise. In the aftern...

Made a move on the City hall and got there to see the guy interviewed being shoved to the ground, kicked and wresteled out the door. He was eventyallu dragged down the stairs of city hall face first by a heavy set man in a suit who was later identified to me by local media as Mayor Jerry Jenning's "bodyguard". The Mayor's own personal bodyman attacked a peaceful protester simply for entering the doors of Albany's City Hall. This was shot just a minute later after the same guy stole my sign out of my hands and ran it inside the building where he and police refused any requests to return the property. That is the discussion being had when the vid picks up.

Occupy Albany: March From Occupy Albany To City Hall To Protest Mayoral Veto Of Frack Ban. Mayor Jenning decision to veto the ban on hydro-fracking clearly shows his allegience lies with giant corporations rather than the citizens who elected him.....Occupy Albany, Occupy Wallstreet, Occupy Everything
Albany lit its official Holiday Tree tonight in Academy Park across from City Hall and the New York State Capitol. The tree is on the grounds where the Occupy Albany group is living in tents, a rather incongruous sight. City Hall, completed in 1883, boasts a carillon in its tower that was played at the event by Charles Semowich.
These toilets are at the city hall in Cardiff. In here there is a slab urinal, about 10 counter top old sinks and 5 toilets son. There are 4 Twyfords Albany toilets and a Twyfords Avalon toilet. I couldn't do a full video of the room since the phone has a recording time limit but I did film 4 toilets but I had to do 2 videos as I filmed toilets in this video son. These toilets were made between 1997 and 1998 as one of the cistern lids were dated from the 29th of November 1998 son but the cistern was dated from 8th of January 1998 but the pan could be from 1997 son. The other toilet is from 1998 as the cistern lid was made on the 18th of January and the cistern was made on the 8th of January 1998, I think the pan was made in January 1998 too son. Mayor de Blasio Delivers Remarks Urging Albany to Extend Mayoral Control of the New York City School System Immediately Rotunda, City Hall Manhattan June 19, 2017
The city hall in my mind, met last night
Rumors of reelection started to fly
It's my funeral today, my funeral today
I laid it down Underneath the sound
It's my principle concern, my principle concern is what you say
But I wanted it this way.
Cause I'm throwin down without a fight
You're more than welcome to look around
Consult your checklist go underground
I'll claim a stake here inside the frame
But I'm going under another way
I won't return after today
So I'm at liberty to say what's on my mind
And it some I like
You can't watch me, you can't make me like before
When I was yours when all I wanted was the door
So I'm throwin down without a fight
You're more than welcome to look around
Consult your checklist go underground
I'll claim a stake here inside the frame
But I'm going under another way
Decision on the dock head
Make up your mind and if you get consensus
Drop me a line
The city hall in my mind, got together last night
