Pieter Desmet (born June 7, 1983 in Kortrijk) is a Belgian steeplechase and long-distance runner. He is a two-time national champion for his category, and a member of Atletiek Zuid-West Club in Zwevegem, being coached and trained by Dirk de Maesschulck. He also achieved a personal best time of 8:15.02, at a world meeting in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.
Desmet represented Belgium at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and competed for the men's 3000 m steeplechase. He ran in the third heat of the event, against twelve other competitors, including South Africa's Ruben Ramolefi, and Kenya's Richard Mateelong. He finished and completed the race in eleventh place, with a time of 8:37.99, failing to advance into the final round.
Desmet also improved his time of 8:31.81 at the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany, finishing ninth in the heats.
Delft University of Technology (Dutch: Technische Universiteit Delft [ˈtɛxnisə ˌynivɛrsiˈtɛi̯t ˈdɛl(ə)ft]), also known as TU Delft, is the largest and oldest Dutch public technological university, located in Delft, Netherlands. With eight faculties and numerous research institutes it hosts over 19,000 students (undergraduate and postgraduate), more than 3,300 scientists and more than 2,200 people in the support and management staff.
The university was established on 8 January 1842 by King William II of the Netherlands as a Royal Academy, with the main purpose of training civil servants for the Dutch East Indies. The school rapidly expanded its research and education curriculum, becoming first a Polytechnic School in 1864, Institute of Technology in 1905, gaining full university rights, and finally changing its name to Delft University of Technology in 1986.
Dutch Nobel laureates Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff, Heike Kamerlingh Onnes, and Simon van der Meer have been associated with TU Delft. TU Delft is a member of several university federations including the IDEA League, CESAER, UNITECH, and 3TU.
Design is the creation of a plan or convention for the construction of an object or a system (as in architectural blueprints, engineering drawings, business processes, circuit diagrams and sewing patterns). Design has different connotations in different fields (see design disciplines below). In some cases the direct construction of an object (as in pottery, engineering, management, cowboy coding and graphic design) is also considered to be design.
Designing often necessitates considering the aesthetic, functional, economic and sociopolitical dimensions of both the design object and design process. It may involve considerable research, thought, modeling, interactive adjustment, and re-design. Meanwhile, diverse kinds of objects may be designed, including clothing, graphical user interfaces, skyscrapers, corporate identities, business processes and even methods of designing.
Thus "design" may be a substantive referring to a categorical abstraction of a created thing or things (the design of something), or a verb for the process of creation, as is made clear by grammatical context.
Master Class is a play by Terrence McNally, with incidental music by Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, and Vincenzo Bellini. The play opened on Broadway in 1995, with stars Zoe Caldwell and Audra McDonald winning Tony Awards.
The opera diva Maria Callas, a glamorous, commanding, larger-than-life, caustic, and surprisingly drop-dead funny pedagogue is holding a voice master class at the Juilliard School. Alternately dismayed and impressed by the students who parade before her, she retreats into recollections about the glories of her own life and career. Included in her musings are her younger years as an ugly duckling, her fierce hatred of her rivals, the unforgiving press that savaged her early performances, her triumphs at La Scala, and her affair with Aristotle Onassis. It culminates in a monologue about sacrifice taken in the name of art.
The play originally was staged by the Philadelphia Theatre Company in March 1995, the Mark Taper Forum and the Kennedy Center.

Pieter (M.A.) Desmet is associate professor of Emotional Design at the department of Industrial Design, Delft University of Technology. He is board member of the International Design and Emotion Society, and director of the Delft Institute of Positive Design, an institute that initiates and stimulates the development of knowledge that supports designers in their attempts to design for human flourishing. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides ...
The professor and researcher presented his research and talked about how objects may be designed to provoke positive experiences in people. Even knowing that the experience between products and emotions is true, Desmet found no convincing patterns in the type of objects. He left a message for TEDxUnisinos's audience: "do not distrust your emotions, embrace them". Pieter Desmet is Chair of Design for Experience at Delf...

Identifying and designing for enjoyable and meaningful experiences Pieter Desmet, Professor Design for Experience, IDE, TU Delft Anna Pohlmeyer, Assistant Professor Design for Happiness, IDE, TU Delft Emotions are fundamental to all design acquired and consumed by people. We are emotional only about the things and events that matter to us. This includes seeing, buying, using and owning consumer goods. Moreover, design has the ability to enable long-term happiness. This IDE Master Class hosts a mixture of (interactive) tutorials and workshops covering a selection of aspects of design for emotion and for happiness, including theory, measurement, and practice. Design approaches are introduced that are embedded in theory whilst remaining pragmatic and usable for designers. Participants deepe...

When are managers more likely to turn a blind eye to unethical behaviour? Researcher Niek Hoogervorst found that managers of companies operating in highly competitive markets might let unethical decisions go by unchallenged – and see them as ‘acceptable business practices’.
