Ann Carr–Boyd (born 13 July 1938) is an Australian classical composer and musicologist. She is considered an authority on the history of European music in Australia.
Ann Kirsten Wentzel was born in Sydney. Her grandfather Wentzel Albert (later changed to Albert Wentzel) came to Australia in 1888 from Bohemia, as a violinist with an orchestra helping to celebrate the centenary of European settlement. Her father Norbert Wentzel was her first teacher of piano and composition, and her uncle Charles Wentzel taught her the violin. Both her father and uncle played viola in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Her formal music studies were at the University of Sydney (Master of Arts; she was the university's first music graduate), and in London with Peter Racine Fricker and Alexander Goehr. She married and had children in London. She returned to Sydney in 1967, where she has been involved in broadcasting, teaching, and contributing to music lexicography, such as the Australian Dictionary of Biography and the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians.

Ragtime is a musical art form, which along with Art Deco fashions for ladies, beards and sideburns for men,as well as enamel kitchenware, seems to undergo very strong revivals.I have enjoyed this rag which my colleague Ann Carr-Boyd presented me with recently.
The Ragtime form is interesting from a musical point of view, because it has well-defined sections and lends itself to depicting different moods and scenes. This Rag,composed for the new Millenium, provided an opportunity to introduce something new and something old-looking to the new century but looking back to nostalgia and the old. Notes by the composer,Ann Carr-Boyd,April 18,2014.
Razz is the name of my tabby cat.Like all cats,he has his own special ways. One minute asleep on the couch-next minute out on the tiles. The Rag depicts his life in musical terms-from sleeping to running through the house at lightning speed. And who knows just where he is when he disappears into the night?[He disappears into the night at the end of the rag).Notes by the composer Ann Carr-Boyd,April 18 2014.
The music of this song reflects the mood of the words-a little abstract, not too formal but very romantic.

In 1997 Camilla and Jon drove to Chechnya to help set up a rehabilitation Centre for war-traumatized children in war-torn Grozny. Two months later they were kidnapped at gunpoint. For the next 14 months they were kept in basements with no natural light or fresh air. She was also raped. They tell their story, and how they survived by using meditation, Tai chi, Qigong and prayer circles. They wrote the book 'The Sky Is Always There' as a kind of cathartic healing for themselves. Camilla says, 'the captors could never touch my essence... my body is only a part of who I am. My spirit will always be free.' You can find out more about Conscious TV here. In this composition the extraordinary Ann Carr-Boyd has vaguely hinted at French Haute Cuisine knowing full well that the very Australian recipe to follow could only spring from one of our 1960 beloved womens' magazines. This leaves both listener & performer totally confused until we realise that Madame Carr-Boyd has just hauled us into the happy realm of the absurd. In our hide-away,
Far from all the fuss that bothers us
We’ll hide-away, we two!
In our hide-away ( in our hide-away . . . )
We’ll be all alone, no telephone to worry me or you!
We will have a ball,
Busy doin’ nothing at all!
In our hide-away ( in our hide-away . . . )
We will lock the door an’ throw away the key
What a holiday, our hide-away will be!
