Paul: "Seventy-three million people were reported to have watched the first show. It is still supposed to be one of the largest viewing audiences ever in the States."
Three other British acts completed the show's schedule - 'The British Invasion' was now well under way. By this point, The Beatles were better able to comprehend the phenomenon of their success, in part because Elvis himself had just publicly congratulated them...
George: "We were aware that Ed Sullivan was the big one because we got a telegram from Elvis and the Colonel. And I've heard that while the show was on there were no reported crimes, or very few. When The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan, even the criminals had a rest for ten minutes."

On Friday 7th February, 1964, The Beatles landed at Kennedy airport and were immediately thrust into their now-legendary first press conference there. The place was heaving with rabid reporters, seasoned journalists and camera crews from all over the world.
From there, they took a limo to the Plaza Hotel, where they stayed during their time in NYC. The Beatles' suite was a hub of activity - a place where they anticipated, prepared for and then relaxed after each of the milestone events that they were experiencing in such quick succession. They would await phone calls from journalists or to receive news of how their songs were doing in the charts; they gave in-person interviews, there, and watched themselves on television. Often, they would call into radio stations to request their favourite records.
Bit by bit, they were getting a sense of 'America'. Still, they were tired. It had been a long trip - a long day. And George, it turns out, was coming down with flu...

- It was 50 years ago today that The Beatles released their first single, Love Me Do.
Hoy se cumplen 50 años del lanzamiento de 'Love Me Do', su primer sencillo.
05/10/1962 - 05/10/2012.-
«Love Me Do» is The Beatles' first single, backed by "P.S. I Love You" and released on 5 October 1962. When the single was originally released in the United Kingdom, it peaked at number seventeen; in 1982 it was re-issued and reached number four. In the United States the single was a number one hit in 1964.
The song is an early Lennon--McCartney composition, principally written by Paul McCartney in 1958--1959 while playing truant from school at age 16. John Lennon wrote the middle eight. Their practice at the time was to scribble songs in a school notebook, dreaming of stardom, always writing "Another Lennon-McCartney Original" at the top of the page. "Love Me Do" is intrinsically a song based around two simple chords: G7 and C, before moving to D for its middle eight. It first profiles Lennon playing a bluesy dry "dockside harmonica" riff, then features Lennon and McCartney on joint lead vocals, including Everly Brothers style harmonising during the beseeching "please" before McCartney sings the unaccompanied vocal line on the song's title phrase. Lennon had previously sung the title sections, but this change in arrangement was made in the studio under the direction of producer George Martin when he realised that the harmonica part encroached on the vocal (Lennon needed to begin playing the harmonica again on the same beat as the "do" of "love me do" although, according to Ian MacDonald, for the earlier 6 June audition the harmonica was overdubbed, allowing Lennon to sing the title phrase unhindered). This is illustrative of the time constraints on this particular session - their first recording session proper; as for instance, when a similar situation later occurred on the "Please Please Me" single session, the harmonica was superimposed afterwards using tape-to-tape overdubbing. Described by MacDonald as "standing out like a bare brick wall in a suburban sitting-room", "Love Me Do" with its stark "blunt working class northerness" rang "the first faint chime of a revolutionary bell" compared to the standard tin pan alley productions occupying the charts at the time.

«Love Me Do» es una temprana canción de John Lennon y Paul McCartney, principalmente compuesta por McCartney entre 1958 y 1959. La canción fue lanzada como sencillo en el Reino Unido, en su primera versión, el 5 de octubre de 1962, con «P.S. I Love You» ocupando el lado B del disco.

When the single was originally released in the United Kingdom on 5 October 1962, it peaked at No. 17; in 1982 it was re-promoted (not re-issued, retaining the same catalogue number) and reached No. 4. In the United States the single was a No. 1 hit in 1964. In 2013, recordings of the song that were published in 1962 entered the public domain in Europe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
«Love Me Do» es una temprana canción de John Lennon y Paul McCartney, principalmente compuesta por McCartney entre 1958 y 1959. La canción fue lanzada como sencillo en el Reino Unido, en su primera versión, el 5 de octubre de 1962, con «P.S. I Love You» ocupando el lado B del disco.

Live, television: It's The Beatles
3.45pm, Saturday 7 December 1963
Following their appearance on the BBC television show Juke Box Jury, The Beatles recorded a special concert appearance for the corporation at Liverpool's Empire Theatre.
The performance took place in front of 2,500 members of The Beatles' Northern Area Fan Club, between 3.45 and 4.30pm. It was filmed in its entirety by the BBC, and 30 minutes were broadcast that evening from 8.10pm to 8.40pm during a special programme entitled It's The Beatles.
The group played a short version of From Me To You, followed by I Saw Her Standing There, All My Loving, Roll Over Beethoven, Boys, Till There Was You, She Loves You, This Boy, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Money (That's What I Want), Twist And Shout, and another version of From Me To You.
Technical problems and lack of rehearsal times meant the sound balance for the concert recording was sub-standard. Both The Beatles and senior figures at the BBC later expressed concern at the often embarrassing nature of the footage, which included the absence of Ringo vocals during Boys and the director focusing on the wrong members of the group during key moments.
After the concert the BBC also recorded a two-minute interview with the group to use on the Christmas Day edition of Top Of The Pops.
The Beatles then made the short journey to the nearby Odeon Cinema on London Road where they gave two evening concerts. The police closed Pudsey Street to the public to allow the group to reach the venue unhindered.

It's was 1968 when this song was Recorded for a film called "Wonderwall" but never released
The soundtrack was composed by Beatle George Harrison, whom Massot approached specially for the project. Harrison had never done a movie soundtrack, and told Massot he didn't know how, but when Massot promised to use whatever Harrison created, Harrison took the job.Late in 1967, Beatle George Harrison hired the Remo Four as his backing band for part of his first solo project, the soundtrack album to the movie Wonderwall. While the songs were mostly instrumentals, they did record one lyrical song, "In The First Place", with Harrison, which was left in the can until the 1990s
Deciding to make the soundtrack a kind of introduction to Indian music, Harrison recorded a series of short ragas at EMI's recording studio in Bombay in January 1968, then a selection of rock and other musical styles, at De Lane Lea Studios in London, England. Timing the segments with a stopwatch as he watched the unfinished movie, Harrison built up a healthy, varied musical program. The soundtrack album (Wonderwall Music), the first "solo" Beatles record, was released by Apple Records in November 1968. It also appeared on compact disc in 1992, during reissues of the Apple catalogue.
Release history:
The movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 1968, with George Harrison, his wife Patti, Ringo Starr, his wife Maureen, and the cast members of the movie in attendance. The premiere in London was on January 12, 1969. The film won an award, but did not gain a proper distribution deal, and its showings were limited, leading some writers to mistakenly state that the movie "was so poor, it was never seen by anyone".[citation needed] A print did finally appear on the American midnight movies circuit in the 1970s, and on home video in the 1980s and 1990s, all of rather low technical quality.
In 1998, thirty years later and with Massot an established film director, he decided to restore and re-release his first movie. George Harrison's search for master recordings turned up a lyrical song, "In The First Place", which he hadn't submitted the first time around, believing Massot only wanted instrumental music. "In The First Place" was released as a single in 1999. Harrison is believed to have not only produced it, but to sing and play on it, although he asked to be only credited as producer. Massot was happy to include the song in the restored movie, which was released to critical acclaim the second time around, and got a distribution deal.
The restored version of Wonderwall is currently available on DVD through Rhino Entertainment in the United States, with bonus features.

Disclaimer: I don't own those lovely, sexy boys! ;-) No copyright infringement is intended.
I was watching a clip of The Beatles' first trip to America, and this scene always intrigued me. I managed to slow it down and decipher it. TOO CUTE!! Poor George (who was previously complaining to Paul that he is deaf--he was sick at the time) is all but forgotten as soon as John "hits" the room..and you can see George still complaing that he is deaf even after John has entered the room---to the obliviousness of both John and Paul. The look you see John give Paul and the show of attention Paul gives John is priceless. Such love there...but I do feel sorry for George. :(
Note: I was on my John and Paul LJ community and we discussed this at length..arriving at this conclusion:
Paul catches John's "look" and is immediately concerned. I learned that John had a history of *terrible* stage fright and would often get sick or even pass out before performances. Someone watching the video said that they see John looking "sick with nerves". If this was the case, it would explain Paul's blatant concern and attention towards John. John catches Paul's concern but makes like it's "nothing", probably out of embarrassment (not wanting Paul to believe that he's as nervous as he may have looked) or because he doesn't want Paul to be a "Mother Hen" and worry about him. He walks past Paul, remaining heavily pre-occupied. Paul is confused and left "wanting" because he's not getting the "feedback" from John that he needs to let him know that he is okay. This is where the video ends. What you *don't* see is that immediately after, John says, "Are we going.....?" and then George grabs John and gets him to wave and smile at the cameraman (who is filming their first US visit). Paul *immediately* snaps out of his reverie and proceeds to carry on the way he did (with his transistor radio) prior to John's having entered the room, leaving me to believe that once John smiled and was *responsive* in some way, Paul's fears were alleviated enough to put him at ease over John's mood.

The Beatles' first appearance on American television was on NBC News -- the November 18, 1963 edition of the Huntley-Brinkley Report, which featured this report on Beatlemania in England by correspondent Edwin Newman. It hasn't been seen anywhere since it aired half a century ago. The video no longer exists, but this audio-only copy was recently discovered in the archives. Of course, the Beatles' first LIVE appearance on American television was the Ed Sullivan Show, on February 9, 1964. This NBC News report predates that immortal moment by nearly three months. It also aired well before other TAPED reports, including those by CBS, Jack Paar and others.

Two days after The Beatles made their American debut, February 9, 1964, on "The Ed Sullivan Show," they made their first-ever U.S. concert appearance at the Washington Coliseum in Washington, D.C. According to a website called http://www.PopHistoryDig.com, the opening acts on the bill were Jay & The Americans, The Righteous Brothers... and Tommy Roe.
But wait, it gets better: The Beatles already knew Roe; they were one of the featured acts on his top-billed tour of the UK a year earlier! And they recorded a cover of his #1 hit from 1962, "Sheila"
Let me give you a quick overview of Tommy Roe's success: he had his first #1 with "Sheila," of course, and subsequently charted a number of songs on the Top 10, including "Everybody," "Sweet Pea" and his biggest single, "Dizzy," which was #1 in the US, UK and Canada in 1969. And as much as I love that song, I've always had a special fondness for his other '69 hit, "Jam Up and Jelly Tight."
On February 11, 2014 -- 50 years to the day -- you can join Tommy Roe to relive a moment of rock 'n' roll history as he returns to the historic Washington Coliseum in Washington, D.C., to open a show by the tribute band, Beatlemania Now, replicating the original. You can get tickets online at http://www.BeatlesYesterdayAndToday.com.
INTERVIEW BONUS: Watch for the moment when Tommy picks up up the guitar behind him and demonstrates how a few songs came together and plays the one hit he thinks got away from him!

For those too lazy to bother to check details in the description, the download for Part 4 can be found under the description for Part 3, as Youtube decided to block that segment due to copyright involving the Washington DC performance. All that said, I don't know how to make anyone aware of this unless they take the time to look at the description instead of bitching at me that I didn't upload all parts of the video. Tsk.

The Beatles 1 Video Collection is out now. Available on: http://www.thebeatles.com/
Hey Jude topped the charts in Britain for two weeks and for 9 weeks in America, where it became The Beatles longest-running No.1 in the US singles chart as well as the single with the longest running time.
The Beatles did not record their promotional film until Hey Jude had been on sale in America for a week. They returned to Twickenham Film Studio, using director Michael Lindsay-Hogg who had worked with them on Paperback Writer and Rain. Earlier still, Lindsay-Hogg had directed episodes of Ready Steady Go! And a few months after the film for Hey Jude he made The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus TV special that featured John and Yoko but wouldn’t be shown until 1996
To help with the filming an audience of around 300 local people, as well as some of the fans that gathered regularly outside Abbey Road Studios were brought in for the song’s finale. Their presence had an unlikely upside for The Beatles in their long-running saga with the Musicians’ Union in that the MU were fooled into believing the band were playing live, when in fact they were miming for the vast majority of the song. Paul, however, sang live throughout the song.
The video was first broadcast on David Frost’s Frost On Sunday show, four days after it was filmed. At that point transmission was in black and white although the promo was originally shot in colour. It was first aired in America a month later on 6 October 1968, on The Smotheres Brothers Comedy Hour.

“When you talk about destruction, don’t you know that you can count me out"
“I did the slow version and I wanted it out as a single: as a statement of The Beatles’ position on Vietnam and The Beatles’ position on revolution. For years, on The Beatles’ tours, Brian Epstein had stopped us from saying anything about Vietnam or the war.” - John Lennon.
“Plugging directly into the Abbey Road desk and pushing the needles into the red achieved the fuzz-guitar sound. According to George Martin “We got into distortion on that, which we had a lot of complaints from the technical people about. But that was the idea: it was John’s song and the idea was to push it right to the limit. Well, we went to the limit and beyond.”
“Revolution" was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, and filmed on the 4th September 1968 at Twickenham Film Studios.

Yesterday (Live in Germany)

The Beatles 1 Video Collection is out now. Available on: http://www.thebeatles.com/
Written by John as an expression of his love for Yoko Ono, the song is heartfelt and passionate. As John told Rolling Stone magazine in 1970, “When it gets down to it, when you’re drowning, you don’t say, ‘I would be incredibly pleased if someone would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me,’ you just scream.”
During filming on the roof of Apple, two days after the recording of the track, the band played ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ right after doing two versions of 'Get Back’ and it led straight into 'I’ve Got A Feeling’. Michael Lindsay-Hogg was once again directing a Beatles’ shoot. He and Paul met regularly at the tail end of 1968, while Hogg was directing The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, to discuss the filming of The Beatles’ session in January. By the time that fateful Thursday came around, the penultimate day of January would be the last time The Beatles ever played together in front of any kind of audience.
This is not the version of ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ heard on the single but the version from the Let It Be… Naked album – a composite of both versions that were performed on the roof of Apple in Savile Row

“If you listen to my playing, I try to become an instrument; play the mood of the song. For example, ‘Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire,’ - boom ba bom. I try to show that; the disenchanting mood. The drum fills are part of it.” Ringo Starr
Of very few individual songs can it be said, ‘This changed the course of popular music.’ ‘A Day In The Life’ is one such song.
Recorded in January and February 1967, a large orchestra was assembled for the amazing additional flourishes and fills, although at first the 40 classically trained musicians struggled with the concept of what they were being asked to play.
George Martin and Paul conducted the orchestra and helped to create a finished track that was more than just different, it was utterly unique. Starting from John’s beautiful song, the end result was something simply unbelievable.
As you can see from the film, this was no ordinary recording session. The classical musicians, who had been asked to wear evening dress, took it upon themselves to wear fake noses, funny hats and generally enter into the spirit of the occasion. Filmed between 8pm and 1am with guests including Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the occasion provided some of the inspiration for what transpired during the recording and filming of ‘All You Need Is Love’ for the Our World project.

The Beatles: The Black Album
My own Black Album, what if the Beatles had gone to make another album after Abbey Road, I based this on the White Album, the songs are paired to a sibling on the White Album, so Band on the Run equals to Back in the USSR and Oh my Love to Dear Prudence, and so on with some anomalies of course.
Hope you enjoy it.

Know more about The Greatest Rock Band of all time - The Fab Four
The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they became widely regarded as the greatest and most influential act of the rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements in innovative ways. In the early 1960s, their enormous popularity first emerged as "Beatlemania", but as the group's music grew in sophistication, led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney, they came to be perceived as an embodiment of the ideals shared by the era's sociocultural revolutions.

This is the 1975 album of The Beatles, never released...
The band's breakup was announced in April 1970, but they continued on their solo careers. We created a 'possible' discography for the 1970-1981 period, including all CD artworks.
By 1971, Lennon suggested that disappointed fans could compile the former members’ solo material themselves to create new "Beatles" records: "If people need the Beatles so much, all they have to do is to buy each album and … put it on tape, track by track, one of me, one of Paul, one of George, one of Ringo, if they really need it that much. Because otherwise the music is the same, only on separate albums" (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4:_John_Paul_George_Ringo)

The Beatles had a break from their Autumn Tour, and spent the afternoon at the Granada television studios in Manchester filming a performance and interview for the Late Scene Extra and Scene At 6.30 programmes.
They mimed to two songs: their forthcoming single I Want To Hold Your Hand and its b-side This Boy. The backdrop of the stage set contained enlarged fictitious headlines from the Daily Echo.
The interview took place on the same set, and was conducted by presenter Gay Byrne. The Beatles were joined by Liverpudlian comedian Ken Dodd.
The footage was used in the 27 November edition of Late Scene Extra, which was broadcast from 11.45pm to midnight, and in the 20 December edition of Scene At 6.30.

7th February 1964: The Beatles first visit the USA
On the 7th February 1964, the Beatles visited the United States for the first time. Their welcome at New York’s Kennedy Airport by 3,000 screaming fans was unprecedented, even for a band that had already become accustomed to hordes of followers at home in Britain and in Europe. Within two days, their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show had put them in front of around 40% of the entire population of

The Beatles: Something guitar arrangement
I saw Paul McCartney last year and loved his arrangement of ‘Something’. He played the first half solo with his ukulele and then the band kicked in for the solo. I tried to go along those lines, didn’t turn out quite as I thought it would, bit of a clash of styles, but it was fun to do! The verse has one of my favourite chord sequences. Excuse the one fingered bass playing, injured my middle finge

Along with Things We Said Today and Can't Buy Me Love, And I Love Her was one of Paul McCartney's major contributions to the A Hard Day's Night album.
It was the first ballad I impressed myself with. It's got nice chords in it, 'Bright are the stars that shine, dark is the sky...' I like the imagery of the stars and the sky. It was a love song really. The 'And' in the title was an important thing. 'And I Love Her,' it came right out of left field, you were right up to speed the minute you heard it. The title comes in the second verse and it doesn't repeat. You would often go to town on the title, but this was almost an aside, 'Oh... and I love you.' It still holds up and George played really good guitar on it. It worked very well.
Paul McCartney
Many Years From Now, Barry Miles
And I Love Her was written in the music room in the basement of the house in Wimpole Street, London, which belonged to Jane Asher's parents. Lennon and McCartney wrote many of their mid-period songs together in the room.
And I Love Her is Paul again. I consider it his first Yesterday. You know, the big ballad in A Hard Day's Night. The middle eight, I helped with that.
John Lennon, 1980
All We Are Saying, David Sheff
It is likely that Asher was the inspiration behind the song. Although John Lennon claimed to have helped with the writing, although it is likely that McCartney composed the majority of it alone.
I'm not sure if John worked on that at all... The middle eight is mine. I would say that John probably helped with the middle eight, but he can't say 'It's mine'. I wrote this on my own. I can actually see Margaret Asher's upstairs drawing room. I remember playing it there, not writing it necessarily.
Paul McCartney
Many Years From Now, Barry Miles
And I Love Her was one of the songs featured in The Beatles first film, A Hard Day's Night. The group played it during the 'studio performance' sequence, which was filmed on 31 March 1964 at the Scala Theatre, London.
Although it became one of The Beatles' most admired recordings following its release, the group only performed it once outside Abbey Road. On 14 July 1964 they played it for the BBC's Top Gear radio show. The session took place at Broadcasting House in London, and was first broadcast two days later

On the 7th February 1964, the Beatles visited the United States for the first time. Their welcome at New York’s Kennedy Airport by 3,000 screaming fans was unprecedented, even for a band that had already become accustomed to hordes of followers at home in Britain and in Europe. Within two days, their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show had put them in front of around 40% of the entire population of the country – an estimated 73 million people.
1963 had seen the release of the Beatles’ first two albums – Please Please Me and With the Beatles – as well as five number one singles including She Loves You and I Want to Hold Your Hand. The latter, released in the UK on the 29th November was kept from the number one spot for two weeks due to a resurgence in the popularity of She Loves You amidst the media storm that kick-started Beatlemania. A few weeks later, on the 26th December, I Want To Hold Your Hand became the first Capitol Records Beatles release in the USA, selling a quarter of a million copies in the first three days and finally hitting the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 on the 1st February.
The Beatles’ arrival in America six days later couldn’t have been any better timed, despite their Ed Sullivan Show appearance being booked before the single was even released. By the time they performed their first live concert to 20,000 fans at the Coliseum in Washington D.C. on the 11th February, Beatlemania had taken a firm grip on America.

I think I'm gonna be sad, I think it's today, yeah! The girl that's driving me mad is going away.
She's got a ticket to ride, she's got a ticket to ride, she's got a ticket to ride, but she don't care. [2.+
@She said that living with me is bringing her down, yeah! For she would never be free when I was around.
She's got a ticket to ride, she's got a ticket to ride, she's got a ticket to ride but she don't care. [2.*
+I don't know why she's riding so high. She ought to think twice, she ought to do right by me.
Before she gets to saying goodbye, she ought to think twice, she ought to do right by me.. [1.da capo 2.@

Lennon once claimed that "Ticket to Ride" — the first track the Beatles recorded for the soundtrack to their second feature film, Help!, on February 15th, 1965 — was "one of the earliest heavy-metal records."
"It was [a] slightly new sound at the time, because it was pretty fuckin' heavy for then," Lennon told Rolling Stone in 1970. "If you go and look in the charts for what other music people were making, and you hear it now, it doesn't sound too bad. It's all happening, it's a heavy record. And the drums are heavy, too. That's why I like it."
After playing mostly acoustic guitar on A Hard Day's Night and Beatles for Sale, Lennon had picked up his electric guitar for "Ticket to Ride." A chiming 12-string riff kicks off the song with a jangly psychedelic flourish, and the guitars strut and crunch through the verses over Starr's grinding groove. The sound was probably inspired by bands such as the Rolling Stones, the Who and the Kinks, who were all exploding out of Great Britain at the time. But the Beatles were still ahead of the competition.
"Ticket to Ride" was the first Beatles recording to break the three-minute mark, and Lennon packed the track with wild mood swings. His singing and lyrics teeter between ambivalence and despair in the verses. The bridge is a powerful double-time burst of indignation ("She oughta think right/She oughta do right/By me"). Another surprise came in the fade, an entirely different melody and rhythm with the repeated line "My baby don't care," sung by Lennon at the upper, stressed top of his range. "We almost invented the idea of a new bit of a song on the fade-out," said McCartney, who also played the spiraling lead-guitar part in the coda. "It was quite radical at the time."
The Beatles now saw making records as a goal in itself — rather than just a document of a song — and were changing their approach to recording as they got more comfortable with the possibilities of the studio. Instead of taping songs as they would play them live, picking the best take and then overdubbing harmonies or solos, the band now usually began with a rhythm track and slowly built an arrangement around it. Considering that, "Ticket to Ride" took almost no time to record: The entire track, including the overdubs, was finished in just over three hours. "It was pretty much a work job that turned out quite well," said McCartney. "Ticket to Ride" effectively became their new theme song: The title of their final BBC radio special was changed to "The Beatles (Invite You to Take a Ticket to Ride)."
Lennon always maintained that McCartney's role in writing the song was minimal — "Paul's contribution was the way Ringo played the drums" — while McCartney contended that "we sat down and wrote it together" in a three-hour session at Lennon's Weybridge home. That might account for the different stories on where the title came from: An obvious explanation is that it refers to a train ticket. (When the Beatles belatedly filmed a promotional clip for the song in November 1965, they lip-synced the song against a backdrop of gigantic transportation passes). But Don Short, a British newspaper journalist who traveled with the Beatles, claimed that it dated back to the band's days in the red-light district of Hamburg, Germany. "The girls who worked the streets in Hamburg had to have a clean bill of health, and so the medical authorities would give them a card saying that they didn't have a dose of anything," he said. "John told me he coined the phrase 'a ticket to ride' to describe those cards." McCartney had a more innocent explanation: He said that it was a play on the name of the town of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. One other possibility: On the day the Beatles recorded "Ticket to Ride," Lennon passed his driver's test. [R.S.

Excuse the one fingered bass playing, injured my middle finger :( . The rhythm guitar is played with a capo at fret 3. Harrison originally wrote the song in A (check out the demo version) and then put a capo on for the album version, this gives you some of the open strings that you wouldn’t have with barre chords. Harrison apparently told McCartney to play a simple bass line……message must have not registered!
Gear: Fender Noneck stratocaster, Gibson 335, ’63 reissue and Hofner bass. Amp: Deluxe reverb for guitars and ampeg for the Hofner. Distortion is courtesy of a hardwire tube distortion pedal and the leslie effect on the rhythm guitar is a plugin on Logic.

http://www.postercentral.com An original, vintage 1964 Capitol Records promotional piece for the Beatles’ newest album at the time, “Beatles ’65.”
This POP merchandising item was made of cardboard and measures approximately 21.5” square.
It’s easy to date this “Beatles ’65” promotional display because the album was released by Capitol on December 15, 1964… and record labels almost always had their advertising pieces all lined up and ready to send out upon a record’s release.
There was also a small paper poster made to advertise this album, along with 1964’s “The Beatles Story,” which I’ve already video-blogged and posted years ago.
Luckily, Capitol decided to go to the expense and make their “Beatles ’65” merchandising display in full color, not skimping in that area.
Can you imagine this LP cover in B&W;… without the colors of the four seasons as depicted, including four different colored umbrellas… how unacceptable that would have been! They must have known it.
Notice how the stereo cover is used for this “Beatles ’65” retail display. Mono was still very much outselling stereo in late 1964, but for some reason, Capitol’s sales department decided to use the stereo image.
And of course, we should be somewhat glad they did, because the Fab Four’s music would live on forevermore in stereo, and the monaural format would die out within five years.
The four photos found on this “Beatles ’65” counter display were taken by famed photographer Robert Whitaker, who had a real eye for the pop scene back in its early days.
Whitaker, of course, would gain fame and notoriety two years later when he shot the Fabs’ famous “butcher cover” photo for their “Yesterday and Today” LP… withdrawn just before commercial release.
It’s interesting to note that Capitol decided to not add any extra wording to their “Beatles ’65” 3-D display. It could have said all kinds of things such as “New Album Out Now!” or “Buy It Here!” Things like that.
But instead they chose to just show the album cover. Heavens, it says enough already… the LP cover named all the songs, and the individual Beatles by first name as well.
This “Beatles ’65” display is happily shown to you today by a first-generation fan who bought the LP upon its release at Christmastime 1964: me! I’m Pete Howard, lifelong music historian. I can be communicated with via pete@postercentral.com or by calling (805) 540-0020.

The Beatles in mono: This is how most listeners first heard the group in the 1960s, when mono was the predominant audio format. Up until 1968, each Beatles album was given a unique mono and stereo mix, but the group always regarded the mono as primary.
On September 8 (September 9 in North America), The Beatles’ nine U.K. albums, the American-compiled Magical Mystery Tour, and the Mono Masters collection of non-album tracks will be released in mono on 180-gram vinyl LPs with faithfully replicated artwork. Newly mastered from the analogue master tapes, each album will be available both individually and within a lavish, limited 14-LP boxed edition, The Beatles In Mono, which also includes a 108-page hardbound book.
In an audiophile-minded undertaking, The Beatles’ acclaimed mono albums have been newly mastered for vinyl from quarter-inch master tapes at Abbey Road Studios by GRAMMY®-winning engineer Sean Magee and GRAMMY®-winning mastering supervisor Steve Berkowitz.
While The Beatles In Mono CD boxed set released in 2009 was created from digital remasters, for this new vinyl project, Magee and Berkowitz cut the records without using any digital technology. Instead, they employed the same procedures used in the 1960s, guided by the original albums and by detailed transfer notes made by the original cutting engineers.

On October 5th 1962, fifty years ago, The Beatles released their first single Love Me Do. It was a moment that changed music history and popular culture forever. It was also an extraordinary year in social and cultural history, not just for Liverpool but for the world, with the Cuban missile crisis, John Glenn in space and beer at a shilling a pint. Stuart Maconie explores how the Beatles changed from leather and slicked back hair to suits and Beatle mops and how their fashion set the pace for the Sixties to follow. Pop artist Sir Peter Blake, Bob Harris, and former Beatles drummer Pete Best join friends to reflect on how the Beatles evolved into John, Paul, George and Ringo the most famous band in the world.

"I've always been a huge Beatles fan. I'm old enough that I remember when the Beatles first came to America; I remember hearing "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" on the radio when those songs first came out. My friends and I pretended we were the Beatles (I was George), and I remember seeing them on The Ed Sullivan Show.
That was before I knew I had music in me, but their music influenced me greatly; in some significant way I absorbed the Beatles' musical sensibilities. I was musically infused with what makes the Beatles' music so powerful: strong but simple melodies, powerful and universal themes, a respect for music lineage, all with a strong rebellious undercurrent.
The night John Lennon was killed my life changed. As a tribute to his life and legacy, a local radio station starting playing all the Beatles songs in order from A to Z; I was transfixed, my ear glued to the radio for hours and days. At that moment, a love for Beatles music became an obsession. I bought every album; I started collecting alternate studio takes and bootlegs; I bought dozens of books about their lives and careers; I generally immersed myself in all things Beatles.
Since that time, I've gone through many waves of Beatles obsession. I've listened to every album many, many times; I've read about the songs and how they came to be; I've read about the recording sessions, what equipment was used and how innovative they were in the studio; I've read about the lives they led, the people they knew and hung out with, and the music and culture that influenced them; I've read about their loves and losses, their triumphs and tragedies, their quirks and oddities, and their passions and pitfalls.
The Beatles' music has been, in many ways, the foundation of my personal music, both stylistically and philosophically. Yes, I'm a jazz saxophonist, but I'm also a pop enthusiast and a great believer in the power of focused emotion through relatively simple melodies and chords.
And I believe in the power of love to transform lives and societies, just like the Beatles did. The Beatles changed the world with their music, and I am part of what changed. I, too, learned that in the end, love IS all you need.
So, here's my humble edition to the ever-growing collection of Beatles tributes. I hope you enjoy this music, and find something in it that will help you feel the love.
Enjoy!"

Renowned Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn discusses Tune In with Fab 4 Free 4 All hosts Mitch Axelrod, Rob Leonard, and Tony Traguardo.
Tune In is the first volume of All These Years—a highly-anticipated, groundbreaking biographical trilogy by the world's leading Beatles historian. Mark Lewisohn uses his unprecedented archival access and hundreds of new interviews to construct the full story of the lives and work of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
Ten years in the making, Tune In takes the Beatles from before their childhoods through the final hour of 1962—when, with breakthrough success just days away, they stand on the cusp of a whole new kind of fame and celebrity. They've one hit record ("Love Me Do") behind them and the next ("Please Please Me") primed for release, their first album session is booked, and America is clear on the horizon. This is the lesser-known Beatles story—the pre-Fab years of Liverpool and Hamburg—and in many respects the most absorbing and incredible period of them all. Here is the complete and true account of their family lives, childhoods, teenage years and their infatuation with American music, here is the riveting narrative of their unforgettable days and nights in the Cavern Club, their laughs, larks and adventures when they could move about freely, before fame closed in.
For those who've never read a Beatles book before, this is the place to discover the young men behind the icons. For those who think they know John, Paul, George, and Ringo, it's time to press the Reset button and tune into the real story, the lasting word.

All Things Must Pass is a triple album by George Harrison. Recorded and released in 1970, the album was Harrison's first solo work since the break-up of The Beatles in April that year. The original vinyl release featured two LPs of rock songs as well as Apple Jam, a third disc of informal jams. Often credited as rock's first triple album, it was in fact the first by a single act, the multi-artist Woodstock live set having preceded it by six months.
In regards to the album's size, Harrison stated: "I didn't have many tunes on Beatles records, so doing an album like All Things Must Pass was like going to the bathroom and letting it out."
The album was critically acclaimed and, with long stays at number 1 in both the US and the UK, commercially successful. It was certified 6x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2001
This is the complete version of the 40th Anniversary edition, which was released in November 2010.

A biography documenting the Beatles' rise to fame and the details of their personal lives, afterwards. At the end of the film is a montage of "rare" (mostly) early interviews of the boys.
I KNOW this film does not contain their "real" music..so the ignorant, angry comments make no sense. It is very commonplace for unauthorized bios to use "sound-alikes" since obtaining their actual music is costly and requires permission. I have ZERO control over how this video was produced. I am merely posting it to share the "Beatle Love". If you are bothered by the use of "fakes" copying their sound, please don't watch. Thank you.

The Beatles are arguably one of the greatest and most influential bands in music history, releasing 13 studio albums over just eight years. While they certainly weren't the only big act in 60s Britain, there were several things that set them apart from other artists of the time and allowed them to reach the unmatched levels of acclaim they did. In this podcast, we cover The Beatles' first six albums and discuss how their sound evolved in terms of lyrical content, instrumentation, production, and performance.

'Submerged in Symbolism' - An occult analysis of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine

In an interview recorded on June 26th 2012 to mark the latest re-release of The Beatles' 1968 animated movie 'Yellow Submarine' on DVD and Blu-ray, ConspiroTV' chats to symbologist, artist, author, researcher and radio-host Robert Richard Hieronimus Ph.D.
His 2002 book, 'Inside the Yellow Submarine: The Making of The Beatles Animated Classic' has been dubbed, "an indispensable companion to the movie." It not only features exclusive interviews with all the principle creators of the film, but also a unique analysis of the esoteric, symbolic aspects within the movie itself.
His occult perspective of the film is hardly a surprise given his life-long interest in symbols and ancient knowledge. In 1969 he founded the 'AUM,' America's first state-approved school of esoteric studies. In 1981, he recieved his PhD. for the doctoral thesis, 'An Historic Analysis of the reverse of the American Great Seal and It's Relationship to the Ideology of Humanistic Psychology.' Furthermore, his research on the Great Seal of the United States has been used in the speeches, literature and libraries of the White House, the US State Department and the Department of the Interior.
During the interview, he also talks about his long and often rocky dealings with The Beatles' company, 'Apple,' and the friendly and fruitful relationships he's forged over the years with some of The Beatles' trusted inner circle including the bands' long-time PR man Derek Taylor and famed record producer, Sir George Martin (who contributed the introduction to Robert's celebrated book). He also relives the night when he successfully assembled together most of the original crew-members of the movie for a 30th anniversary reunion TV special at the BBC's legendary Maida Vale Studios. However, the interview begins with memories of his early days as an album-cover and poster designer with 'Elektra Records' when he shared his knowledge of occult symbols with some of the biggest names in Rock music history, including Jimi Hendrix.
An accompanying in-depth article about the interview and the 'Yellow Submarine,' can be read at the website/blog 'Conspiro Media.':
