Do we finally have a director for the elusive Friday the 13th movie in the works over at Paramount?! Yesterday Deadline reported that The Crazies director Breck Eisner was in talks to take over the long in development Platinum Dunes produced project for Paramount. Deadline mentions that the film is still slated to hit theaters next year, so they better get a move on! The last we heard, Prisoners and The Wolfman scribe Aaron Guzikowski had penned the most recent version of the script.
Last week EW broke the news that Saw producer Peter Block acquired the rights to the Pumpkinhead franchise and plans to shoot a new film in the series in 2017. The new installment should see a theatrical release unlike several of the sequels that went straight to video and two Syfy channel movies from 2006 and 2007. Block says that while it won’t be a direct remake, it will share a lot of the same story points as the original. Block assured EW that, as a fan of the original, the scares would be important, as would the emotion of the story, saying, ““We’re just about to start going out looking for a director for it."
While updates on a sequel to The Strangers are few and far between, writer/ director/ producer Bryan Bertino is still hard at work creating the next thing that will give you nightmares. After directing Blumhouse Tilt’s Mockingbird, Bertino’s latest, now titled The Monster, will be coming to DirectTV on October 8 from A24 with a theatrical release expected in November.
When it comes to The Love Witch, all I can say is WOW. Director Anna Biller’s sophomore effort is a stunning throwback to cult favorites from the 60s and 70s and when you see the trailer for the film, you’ll understand why. Biller shot the movie in 35 mm and will come to select theaters on November 11.
Meanwhile, the alleged final installment of the Resident Evil franchise dropped its first trailer today. Teased by franchise star Milla Jovovich on her social media profile last week, The Final Chapter will slash its way into theaters this January.
What’s In The Box?!:
TNT revealed a lot of interesting news about one of their most anticipated TV projects: the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan produced Tales From The Crypt. Kevin Reilly, Mark Reilly’s uncle (just kidding), told /Film, “I think it may even be longer than an hour. There’s going to be a half-hour anthology and then a one-hour original show with some shorts in between. So it’s part of a whole block. The original half-hour, sort of slightly comedic, kind of twisted [story] that Night himself is going to direct will be a part of it every week.
Scrubs star John C. McGinley is getting into the horror game alongside The Simpsons writer and comedian Dana Gould who has created Stan Against Evil, an eight episode scripted horror-comedy series set to debut on Halloween on IFC.

Breck Eisner
Michael Breckenridge "Breck" Eisner (born December 24, 1970) is an American television and film director.
Early life
Eisner was born Michael Breckenridge Eisner in California, the son of Jane Breckenridge, a business advisor and computer programmer, and Michael Eisner, the former Walt Disney Company chief executive. To avoid confusion with his father, he uses a short version of his middle name which incidentally is his mother's maiden name and the traditional middle name of first-born sons in her family. His mother is a Unitarian of Scottish and Swedish descent while his father is Jewish.
Eisner attended Harvard High School (now Harvard-Westlake School), Georgetown University, majoring in both English and Theatre, and the University of Southern California's film school where he received a Master's degree in directing.
Directing career
For a directing project at Georgetown, he filmed a contemporary riff on Alice in Wonderland, shooting scenes in the vast empty attic of Healy Hall on the campus, as well as in an abandoned circular trolley-car tunnel under Dupont Circle in Northwest, Washington, D.C.. He also directed Shakespeare plays on the campus.

The Last Witch Hunter
The Last Witch Hunter is a 2015 American dark fantasy action thriller film directed by Breck Eisner and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The film stars Vin Diesel as an immortal witch-hunter who must stop a plague from ravaging New York City. The film was released on October 23, 2015 and received negative reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office.
Plot
Kaulder is a witch-hunter who was cursed with eternal life in the Middle Ages by the Witch Queen. The Witch Queen had unleashed the Black Plague to wipe out humanity and killed Kaulder's family, but Kaulder was able to defeat her. Prior to seemingly dying the Witch Queen cursed him with eternal life as punishment. 800 years later, Kaulder is still working as a witch hunter for an organization called The Axe and Cross, which aims to keep the truce between humans and witches and executes or imprisons witches who break the law. Ever since he was made immortal by the Witch Queen, Kaulder is accompanied by a priest called a "Dolan" whose main purpose is to record the achievements of Kaulder and to be his keeper. The 36th Dolan is retiring from his duties and has chosen a new Dolan to work alongside Kaulder and the very same night he dies in his sleep.

Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition. It occurs when the 13th day of the month in the Gregorian calendar falls on a Friday.
History
The fear of the number 13 has been given a scientific name: "triskaidekaphobia"; and on analogy to this the fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskevidekatriaphobia, from the Greek words Paraskeví (Παρασκευή, meaning "Friday"), and dekatreís (δεκατρείς, meaning "thirteen").
The superstition surrounding this day may have arisen in the Middle Ages, "originating from the story of Jesus' last supper and crucifixion" in which there were 13 individuals present in the Upper Room on the 13th of Nisan Maundy Thursday, the night before his death on Good Friday. While there is evidence of both Friday and the number 13 being considered unlucky, there is no record of the two items being referred to as especially unlucky in conjunction before the 19th century.
An early documented reference in English occurs in Henry Sutherland Edwards' 1869 biography of Gioachino Rossini, who died on a Friday 13th:

Do we finally have a director for the elusive Friday the 13th movie in the works over at Paramount?! Yesterday Deadline reported that The Crazies director Breck Eisner was in talks to take over the long in development Platinum Dunes produced project for Paramount. Deadline mentions that the film is still slated to hit theaters next year, so they better get a move on! The last we heard, Prisoners and The Wolfman scribe Aaron Guzikowski had penned the most recent version of the script.
Last week EW broke the news that Saw producer Peter Block acquired the rights to the Pumpkinhead franchise and plans to shoot a new film in the series in 2017. The new installment should see a theatrical release unlike several of the sequels that went straight to video and two Syfy channel movies from 2006 and 2007. Block says that while it won’t be a direct remake, it will share a lot of the same story points as the original. Block assured EW that, as a fan of the original, the scares would be important, as would the emotion of the story, saying, ““We’re just about to start going out looking for a director for it."
While updates on a sequel to The Strangers are few and far between, writer/ director/ producer Bryan Bertino is still hard at work creating the next thing that will give you nightmares. After directing Blumhouse Tilt’s Mockingbird, Bertino’s latest, now titled The Monster, will be coming to DirectTV on October 8 from A24 with a theatrical release expected in November.
When it comes to The Love Witch, all I can say is WOW. Director Anna Biller’s sophomore effort is a stunning throwback to cult favorites from the 60s and 70s and when you see the trailer for the film, you’ll understand why. Biller shot the movie in 35 mm and will come to select theaters on November 11.
Meanwhile, the alleged final installment of the Resident Evil franchise dropped its first trailer today. Teased by franchise star Milla Jovovich on her social media profile last week, The Final Chapter will slash its way into theaters this January.
What’s In The Box?!:
TNT revealed a lot of interesting news about one of their most anticipated TV projects: the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan produced Tales From The Crypt. Kevin Reilly, Mark Reilly’s uncle (just kidding), told /Film, “I think it may even be longer than an hour. There’s going to be a half-hour anthology and then a one-hour original show with some shorts in between. So it’s part of a whole block. The original half-hour, sort of slightly comedic, kind of twisted [story] that Night himself is going to direct will be a part of it every week.
Scrubs star John C. McGinley is getting into the horror game alongside The Simpsons writer and comedian Dana Gould who has created Stan Against Evil, an eight episode scripted horror-comedy series set to debut on Halloween on IFC.

The Crazies stars Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell. The film takes place in the fictional town of Ogden Marsh, Pierce County, Iowa, "friendliest place on Earth," whose town water supply is accidentally infected with the "Trixie" virus. After an incubation period of 48 hours, this virus gradually transforms the mental state of the infected into that of cold, calculating, depraved, bloodthirsty killers, who then prey on family and neighbors alike.
The film was released on February 26, 2010 to positive reviews from critics, and was a box office success both domestically and internationally.

Before she suits up as Captain Marvel, Brie Larson will be getting behind the camera. THR reports the Oscar winning actress will make her directorial debut with the independent comedy Unicorn Store. Larson will also produce and star in the film, which is based on an original screenplay by Samantha McIntyre.
According to a report from Deadline, The Crazies director Breck Eisner is in talks to direct a reboot of Friday the 13th, which is being brought back to life at Paramount Pictures. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will be producing the project with a release expected sometime next year. Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski turned in his screenplay last month, which Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller called an “origin-ish” story.

Deadline is reporting that Shrek and Chronicles of Narnia director Andrew Adamson will write and direct a live-action Curious George film for Universal Pictures, based on the children’s book series written by Margret & H.A. Rey. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard will produce for their Imagine Entertainment banner.
A new trailer has been released for the The Sea of Trees starring Matthew McConaughey, and directed by Good Will Hunting’s Gus Van Sant. The movie tells the story about Japan’s infamous suicide forest at the base of Mt. Fuji dubbed “the sea of trees” with McConaughey playing a man who travels to Japan in the midst of a personal crisis that involves his wife played Naomi Watts, who has a fatal condition.
As Sicario was building considerable buzz last year, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve was already busy readying his next project, which would mark his first foray into the sci-fi realm: Arrival. Previously titled Story of Your Life, the film is billed as an intellectual sci-fi drama “with a genre twist.”

Armies of witch hunters battled the unnatural enemy across the globe for centuries, including Kaulder, a valiant warrior who managed to slay the all-powerful Queen Witch, decimating her followers in the process. In the moments right before her death, the Queen curses Kaulder with her own immortality, forever separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Today Kaulder is the only one of his kind remaining, and has spent centuries hunting down rogue witches, all the while yearning for his long-lost loved ones. However, unbeknownst to Kaulder, the Queen Witch is resurrected and seeks revenge on her killer causing an epic battle that will determine the survival of the human race.

The Bolivian government declared a state of emergency over a plague of locusts infecting a wide agricultural area on Wednesday, according to BBC News ... President Evo Morales announced a contingency plan which includes an additional $700,000 for fumigation to begin right away.
