Robert Kearney (born 26 March 1986), also referred to as Rob Kearney, is an Irish rugby union rugby player who currently plays for UCD, Leinster and Ireland. As a youth he also played rugby union for Clongowes Wood College and Gaelic football for Louth in the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship.
Born and raised in the Cooley Peninsula, Kearney, like many of his peers, got involved in athletics at an early age. The dominant sport in the area is Gaelic football. As a youth, Kearney played Gaelic for Naomh Mhuire, and in the Cooley Kickhams underage setup, before graduating to the Cooley senior football team at the relatively young age of 16. He played for Cooley in the Louth Senior Football Championship final in 2004.
Kearney attended Clongowes Wood College in County Kildare for his secondary education. After his Leaving Certificate he moved to University College Dublin, where he studied Arts. He graduated in April 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Kearney may refer to:
Robbie Henshaw (born 12 June 1993) is an Irish rugby union player. He plays primarily as a centre, though he has also played at fullback in the past. Henshaw currently plays for Irish provincial team Connacht in the Pro12, and internationally for Ireland. He plays his club rugby with Buccaneers.
Born in Athlone, Henshaw grew up in the suburb Coosan and was a student at Marist College in the town. He was captain of the school's rugby team in 2012 when they won their first Connacht Senior Cup in 35 years. In addition to rugby Henshaw also played Gaelic football in his youth. He played for the Athlone senior team at just 18 years old, and played for the Westmeath minor team in 2010 and 2011.
Henshaw comes from a sporting family with a history of involvement in the GAA, while his uncle David Henshaw played rugby for Buccaneers and Connacht. The family also has a lot of musical talent, with Henshaw himself playing the accordion, fiddle, guitar and piano.
Peter O'Mahony (born 17 September 1989 in Cork, Ireland) is an Irish rugby union player. He plays for Munster in the Pro12 and European Rugby Champions Cup and for Ireland internationally. O'Mahony can play across the Back-Row.
He won the 2009–10 AIB Cup with Cork Constitution, and was named Man-of-the-Match in the final.
O'Mahony made his Munster debut against Ulster on 2 January 2010. He captained Munster A to the final of the inaugural British and Irish Cup in the 2009–10 season.
O'Mahony was promoted to a full development contract with Munster for the 2010–11 season. He was an integral part of the team when the internationals were away for the November Tests, putting in a big performance in Munster's historic 15–6 victory against Australia, a game which was also O'Mahony's first start for Munster.
O'Mahony captained Munster in their opening Pro12 match against Newport Gwent Dragons in September 2011, and continued to captain Munster whilst the international contingent were away at the 2011 Rugby World Cup. He made his Heineken Cup debut for Munster against Northampton Saints on 12 November 2011, a game in which he won the Man-of-the-Match award. He scored his first try for Munster on 19 November 2011, in Munster's second Heinken Cup Pool One game against Castres Olympique. O'Mahony won the Munster Young Player of the Year for the 2011–12 season. He captained Munster in their 2011–12 Pro 12 away play-off semi-final against Ospreys on 11 May 2012, which Munster lost 45–10.
