Bob Quinn (Australian politician)

Robert Joseph (Bob) Quinn (born 9 September 1947 in Murwillumbah, NSW) is an Australian Liberal Party politician in the Queensland parliament. He was leader of the Queensland Liberal Party from 2001 until being ousted on 7 August 2006 by Bruce Flegg.

Quinn was a schoolteacher before entering politics. He was elected to Parliament in 1989 after winning the seat of South Coast. The booming population of the Gold Coast saw Quinn's electorate undergo several redistributions and name changes. He was the member for Merrimac from 1992 to 2001 and the member for Robina from 2001 till his retirement from politics in 2006.

The Liberal Party victory in the Mundingburra by-election in February 1996 brought about a hung parliament in Queensland. Independent Liz Cunningham held the balance of power and chose to support the Borbidge led National-Liberal Coalition in forming government. Quinn subsequently became Minister for Education.

The Australian Labor Party, led by Peter Beattie, won office in the June 1998 state election, which ended the Coalition agreement between the two parties. Dr David Watson took over the Liberal Leadership from Joan Sheldon and Quinn became Deputy Leader of the Party.

Robert E. "Bob" Quinn (born 1936) is a retired American professional baseball executive. Quinn spent almost 30 years in senior front office positions in Major League Baseball and worked as the general manager of three clubs: the New York Yankees (from June 8, 1988, through October 12, 1989), Cincinnati Reds (from October 13, 1989, through the end of the 1992 season) and San Francisco Giants (from December 1, 1992, through September 30, 1996). He was the general manager of the 1990 World Series champion Cincinnati Reds.

Family

Quinn is a third-generation member of a family involved in baseball management since the turn of the 20th century. His grandfather J.A. Robert Quinn at one time was an owner of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Braves and general manager of the St. Louis Browns and Brooklyn Dodgers. His father, John J. Quinn, was GM of the Braves in Boston and Milwaukee and the Philadelphia Phillies between 1945–72. A brother-in-law, Roland Hemond, is also a longtime baseball executive and the former general manager of the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles. And Quinn's son, also named Bob, is the Milwaukee Brewers' executive vice president, finance and administration, the fourth generation of the Quinn family to work in senior management positions in professional baseball.
