+972 Magazine is a blog-based web magazine that is jointly owned by a group of journalists, bloggers and photographers whose goal is to provide fresh, original, on-the-ground reporting and analysis of events in Israel and Palestine. Our collective is committed to human rights and freedom of information, and we oppose the occupation. However, +972 Magazine does not represent any organization, political party or specific agenda.

We see +972 as a platform for our bloggers to share analysis, reports, ideas, images and videos on their channels. Each blogger owns his or her channel and has full rights over its contents (unless otherwise stated). The bloggers alone are responsible for the content posted on their channels; the positions expressed on individual blogs reflect those of their authors, and not +972 as a whole.

+972 Magazine is financed through readers’ support and grants. While writing on the site is done voluntarily, there are growing costs in maintaining it. If you would like to donate to +972, click on the link at to top right corner of this page, which will direct you to our PayPal page. The name of the site is derived from the telephone area code that is shared by Israel and Palestine.

We at +972 seek to foster open, thoughtful, creative and far-reaching dialogue with our readers. We invite you to comment on our articles – after a first-time vetting process, your comments are automatically published.

Our policy regarding comments is minimal and fairly simple: avoid hateful tones and incitement. Personal insults, attacks, racism and profanity are unacceptable, and we do not want inappropriate abuse of World War II terminology. Comments that are long, repetitive, and off topic may also be edited or deleted, as we would like substantive discussions that keep others engaged. Submit a piece for publication

Please follow these guidelines to submit an Op-Ed or reporting piece to +972 Magazine:

+972 encourages readers to participate in our debates and we are happy to receive unsolicited posts. Please read the following suggestions to improve your chances of getting your piece published here.

+972 is mainly intended to provide reporting and commentary from the region. Our first priority will be to publish guest posts from people writing from Israel or Palestine or other parts of the Middle East. If you are writing from elsewhere, we may still consider your piece if there is a good reason why your perspective on the topic is particularly relevant – for example, due to personal experience or involvement.

Try to make a clear, strong and original point. Our readers are quite well-informed and probably don’t want to read a repetitive analysis of the general situation; they are however looking for fresh ideas regarding old problems, new topics that haven’t been addressed, or new information and details that might change their perspectives.

Try to keep the submissions op-ed length – 700 words or less. We are also happy to consider unconventional posts – videos, photo essays, poems, music or creative treatments.

Please fact-check and proofread your articles. When we find factual errors, we are less likely to publish the piece, as this indicates that there may be more errors we haven’t found. If the piece needs heavy language editing or correction, we are less likely to publish it. If you notice a factual error or a typo after a piece has been published, please write to us immediately and we will fix it.

Please include a 1-3 line bio in all submissions, explaining where you live and what you do. Articles that include a photo relevant to the topic will be published faster. Photos that are copyright protected and are not owned by the author of the post cannot be used on our site. If your post has been published elsewhere, please let us know.

By submitting an article, picture or video to us you give us all rights to post this item, to edit it, add headlines, pictures and illustration and to distribute it via social networks. We will make an effort to show you an edited version of the text before posting it, but cannot guarantee it. However, once we post the item, you are free to re-submit it to others, to link or repost it as you wish.

Finally, while we appreciate your submission, we are not able to answer each writer. If you do not hear from us within several weeks, chances are that we were not able to publish your article.

Financial Statement

The initial costs for the launching of +972 Magazine were covered by the founding team of the site from their own money. Readers’ donations covered additional costs such as technical maintenance and support. Most writing on the site is done on a volunteer basis.

Since August 2011,  +972 Magazine has been supported by “972 – Advancement of Citizen Journalism,” a registered non-profit founded by Israeli and Palestinian journalists. Yearly audit and financial reports submitted by the non-profit could be found here. Since 2014, 972 – Advancement of Citizen Journalism also supports the Hebrew-language site Local Call.
