Cal running back Daniel Lasco has upgraded his draft stock through a series of private workouts following a strong performance at the NFL scouting combine.
Lasco worked out privately for the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots, according to a source not authorized to speak publicly.
The former Woodlands star and prep All-American participated in the Texans, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers' local prospect workotus.
Lasco ran a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine.
Lasco also broke the all-time combine broad jump record for running backs with an 11-3 leap. He led all running backs with a 41 1/2 inch vertical leap and ranked third all-time at his position.
He also bench pressed 225 pounds 23 times.
Lasco endured a difficult senior year where he battled hip and ankle injuries.
Since a stellar combine, several analysts have boosted his grade to a middle-round draft target after previously ranking him as a priority free agent.
Healthy again after a season during which he was limited to three starts, 331 rushing yards and three touchdowns, Lasco generated buzz at the combine. He excelled at the East-West Shrine all-star game, rushing for a game-high 62 yards of six carries and a long run of 41 yards.
"Lasco is a guy we're talking about more now because of what he did at the combine and East-West game and because he's a big guy who can run and catch very well," an AFC scouting director said on the condition of anonymity. "I like him. I feel like he can help right away as a third-down back and on special teams. He could develop into a starter one day if he stays healthy. He's checking a lot of boxes."
As a junior at Cal, Lasco rushed for 1,115 yards and 12 touchdowns. He caught 33 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns and was named an honorable-mention All-Pac-12 selection. He was regarded as one of the top 10 running backs entering his senior year after piling up 1,471 all-purpose yards on a 5-7 team.
Lasco, who had the second-best 60-yard shuttle among the running backs with an 11.31 time, met formally with the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts at the combine. He talked with Broncos general manager John Elway along with running back coaches from every NFL team.
A high school All-American as a senior, Lasco set school records with 3,821 career rushing yards and 43 touchdowns. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds and the 100 meters in 10.5 seconds. And he rushed for 265 yards and four touchdowns against Katy as a junior.
