Running the length of Manhattan from its southern tip known as Bowling Green to the northern part of the city, Broadway crosses many neighborhoods and creates "squares" when it crosses the streets that run east to west along the way.
Columbus Circle
Columbus Circle is formed where Broadway intersects with Central Park West and 59th Street and is the only intersection with a round shape.
There is a contrast between nature on one side of the circle, outlined by Central Park with its beautiful trees and its horses with carriages, and the modern skyscrapers on the other side.
Christopher Columbus Monument
In the middle of the circle stands a statue of Christopher Columbus, designed in 1892 by Italian sculptor Gaetano Russo, in commemoration of Columbus' discovery of the "New World".
Museum of Art and Design
On the south side of Columbus Circle you can admire the Museum of Art and Design building. As originally constructed, the building had Venetian styles but was disliked by many. The building was redesigned in 2008 amid a fight to preserve the original design. The new design has been equally criticized. The museum offers one of the finest collections of American craft including works of clay, glass, metal, fiber and wood.
Trump International Hotel & Tower
The Trump International Hotel Tower is one of the many towers owned by business magnate Donald Trump. It stands tall over the northern corner of Columbus Circle. Part of it is occupied by upscale luxury apartments and part of it contains a five star luxury hotel.

Time Warner Center
The Time Warner Center consists of two modern skyscrapers built in 2000 which house a mix of offices, restaurants, shops a hotel and residential apartments. It is called the Time Warner Center because is houses the corporate offices and Worldwide Headquarters of Time Warner. Furthermore, the CNN headquarters and the Jazz at Lincoln Center complex are also located in the building.
Jazz at Lincoln Center, Rose Hall
Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is a complex of various theaters located a few blocks up from Columbus Circle, but the jazz portion of it is located right here at the Frederick P. Rose Hall inside the Time Warner Center.
In Rose Hall you will find state-of --the art rehearsal studios, jazz instructional programs, theaters and many jazz events.
Restaurants & Shopping
Most of the shopping in Columbus Circle is found inside the Time Warner Center. There are upscale shops like A/X Armani Exchange, Swarovski and many others. Plus the center has become known for its trendy restaurants which include:

STORYLINE:
The Time Warner Center, a 2.8 million square-foot (252,000 square-meters) residential and commercial complex at Columbus Circle that
cost almost $2 billion, opened Wednesday night with a gala black-tie affair.
The event marked the completion of Time Warner Inc.'s new world headquarters.
The complex includes a 40-store retail facility, five world-class restaurants, a high-level hotel, luxury condominiums and a new facility for Jazz at Lincoln Center. The corporation's former headquarters were in Rockefeller Center.
Taking four years to build, the new center sits in Columbus Circle at the southwest corner of Central Park.
The two-tower, $1.7 billion center rises 80 stories above street level and overlooks Central Park. It contains 201 luxury condominiums, a 251-room
five-star hotel and 211,000 square feet (18,990 square meters) of office space.
"It's a great part of New York," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at the opening. "It tells you what's really happening here ... the best days are
yet to come."
The building of the center did not come without its troubles.
In 2002, a construction worker was critically injured when a piece of debris struck him in the head; traffic was shut down in neighboring blocks,
and subway trains were rerouted.
Last year, a fire damaged four floors under construction, injuring an elevator mechanic and 13 firefighters.
Despite the problems, those involved in the development were confident the center would become an anchor for that part of the city.
Perhaps those happiest about the opening of the center were the retailers, who expect heavy traffic from Upper West Side residents and people who work nearby.
The Time Warner Center opens to the public on Thursday.

Warner Center is a business development in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California.
Warner Center, which began as a master-planned area, is designated as a Regional Center within the City’s Canoga Park-West Hills-Winnetka-Woodland Hills Community Plan. Historically, Warner Center is generally bounded by Vanowen Street to the north, the Ventura Freeway to the south, De Soto Avenue to the east, and Topanga Canyon Boulevard on the west. The Warner Center 2035 Plan (adopted in December 2013) added the area between Vanowen and the LA River to the plan area, which comprises approximately 1,100 acres or 1.7 square miles.
The area was originally planned to relieve traffic to and from downtown Los Angeles, as well as generate jobs in the San Fernando Valley. It was first envisioned in the late 1960s.
Historic context
Warner Center is named for Harry Warner, the eldest of the Warner Brothers, owned the land since the 1940s, which he used as a horse ranch. His family donated 20 acres of land in 1967 that became the Warner Center Park (also known as the Warner Ranch Park), situated east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard between Califa Street and Marylee Street.

Time Warner Center
Time Warner Center is a twin-tower building developed by AREA Property Partners (formerly known as Apollo Real Estate Advisors) and The Related Companies in New York City. Its design, by David Childs and Mustafa Kemal Abadan of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, consists of two 750 ft (229 m) twin towers bridged by a multi-story atrium containing upscale retail shops. Construction began in November 2000, following the demolition of the New York Coliseum, and a topping-out ceremony was held on February 27, 2003. The property had the highest-listed market value in New York City, $1.1 billion, in 2006. Originally constructed as the AOL Time Warner Center, the building encircles the western side of Columbus Circle and straddles the border between Midtown and the Upper West Side. The total floor area of 2.8 million square feet (260,000 m2) is divided between offices (notably the offices of Time Warner Inc. and an R&D Center for VMware), residential condominiums, and the Mandarin Oriental, New York hotel. Columbus Circle, named for Christopher Columbus, is a traffic circle and heavily trafficked intersection in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located at the intersection of Eighth Avenue, Broadway, Central Park South (West 59th Street), and Central Park West, at the southwest corner of Central Park. It is the point from which all official distances from New York City are measured. The name is also used for the neighborhood a few blocks around the circle in each direction. To the south of the circle lies Hell's Kitchen, also known as "Clinton", and the Theater District, and to the north is the Upper West Side.
The circle
Completed in 1905 and renovated a century later, the circle was designed by William P. Eno – a businessman who pioneered many early innovations in road safety and traffic control – as part of Frederick Law Olmsted's vision for Central Park, which included a "Grand Circle" at the Merchants' Gate, its most important Eighth Avenue entrance.

View of Central Park STORYLINE: The Time Warner Center, a 2.8 million square-foot (252,000 square-meters) residential and commercial complex at Columbus Circle that cost almost $2 billion, opened Wednesday night with a gala black-tie affair. The event marked the completion of Time Warner Inc.'s new world headquarters. The complex includes a 40-store retail facility, five world-class restaurants, a high-level hotel, luxury condominiums and a new facility for Jazz at Lincoln Center. The corporation's former headquarters were in Rockefeller Center. Taking four years to build, the new center sits in Columbus Circle at the southwest corner of Central Park. The two-tower, $1.7 billion center rises 80 stories above street level and overlooks Central Park. It contains 201 luxury condominiums, a 251-room five-star hotel and 211,000 square feet (18,990 square meters) of office space. "It's a great part of New York," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at the opening. "It tells you what's really happening here ... the best days are yet to come." The building of the center did not come without its troubles. In 2002, a construction worker was critically injured when a piece of debris struck him in the head; traffic was shut down in neighboring blocks, and subway trains were rerouted. Last year, a fire damaged four floors under construction, injuring an elevator mechanic and 13 firefighters. Despite the problems, those involved in the development were confident the center would become an anchor for that part of the city. Perhaps those happiest about the opening of the center were the retailers, who expect heavy traffic from Upper West Side residents and people who work nearby. The Time Warner Center opens to the public on Thursday. Running the length of Manhattan from its southern tip known as Bowling Green to the northern part of the city, Broadway crosses many neighborhoods and creates "squares" when it crosses the streets that run east to west along the way.
Columbus Circle
Columbus Circle is formed where Broadway intersects with Central Park West and 59th Street and is the only intersection with a round shape.
There is a contrast between nature on one side of the circle, outlined by Central Park with its beautiful trees and its horses with carriages, and the modern skyscrapers on the other side.
Christopher Columbus Monument
In the middle of the circle stands a statue of Christopher Columbus, designed in 1892 by Italian sculptor Gaetano Russo, in commemoration of Columbus' discovery of the "New World".

Running the length of Manhattan from its southern tip known as Bowling Green to the northern part of the city, Broadway crosses many neighborhoods and creates "squares" when it crosses the streets that run east to west along the way.
Columbus Circle
Columbus Circle is formed where Broadway intersects with Central Park West and 59th Street and is the only intersection with a round shape.
There is a contrast between nature on one side of the circle, outlined by Central Park with its beautiful trees and its horses with carriages, and the modern skyscrapers on the other side.
Christopher Columbus Monument
In the middle of the circle stands a statue of Christopher Columbus, designed in 1892 by Italian sculptor Gaetano Russo, in commemoration of Columbus' discovery of the "New World".
Museum of Art and Design
On the south side of Columbus Circle you can admire the Museum of Art and Design building. As originally constructed, the building had Venetian styles but was disliked by many. The building was redesigned in 2008 amid a fight to preserve the original design. The new design has been equally criticized. The museum offers one of the finest collections of American craft including works of clay, glass, metal, fiber and wood.
Trump International Hotel & Tower

STORYLINE:
The Time Warner Center, a 2.8 million square-foot (252,000 square-meters) residential and commercial complex at Columbus Circle that
cost almost $2 billion, opened Wednesday night with a gala black-tie affair.
The event marked the completion of Time Warner Inc.'s new world headquarters.
The complex includes a 40-store retail facility, five world-class restaurants, a high-level hotel, luxury condominiums and a new facility for Jazz at Lincoln Center. The corporation's former headquarters were in Rockefeller Center.
Taking four years to build, the new center sits in Columbus Circle at the southwest corner of Central Park.
The two-tower, $1.7 billion center rises 80 stories above street level and overlooks Central Park. It contains 201 luxury condominiums, a 251-room
five-star hotel and 211,000 square feet (18,990 square meters) of office space.
"It's a great part of New York," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at the opening. "It tells you what's really happening here ... the best days are
yet to come."
The building of the center did not come without its troubles.
In 2002, a construction worker was critically injured when a piece of debris struck him in the head; traffic was shut down in neighboring blocks,
and subway trains were rerouted.
Last year, a fire damaged four floors under construction, injuring an elevator mechanic and 13 firefighters.
Despite the problems, those involved in the development were confident the center would become an anchor for that part of the city.
Perhaps those happiest about the opening of the center were the retailers, who expect heavy traffic from Upper West Side residents and people who work nearby.
The Time Warner Center opens to the public on Thursday.

Downtown LA is principally the business district though it also houses major museums, theatres and live music venues plus ethnic attractions like Little Tokyo and historic Olvera Street which reflects the city's Hispanic roots.
Surburban Burbank offers Universal Studios with its colourful theme park and Warner Brothers, a working studio with tours where you may spot a star or two. To the north east, the small, historic and cultured city of Pasadena is a pleasant contrast to the brashness of Hollywood.
The laid back coastal cities of Santa Monica and Venice offer great shopping and dining, a chance to dip your toes in the Pacific Ocean or relax on wide sandy beaches. But LA's close promixity to the mountains mean that in winter, skiing is an option in this sun-kissed state.
Disneyland may be the city's major tourist pull, but LA is also home to world-renowned culture from the Museum of Contemporary Art to the LA Philharmonic to the LA Opera headed up by Placido Domingo, and the treasures of the Getty Museum.
LA is a fascinating contradiction where zen hippy health fanatics seeking to find themselves exist happily alongside some of the most glamorous and wealthy people in the world, seeking fame and fortune. Most visitors come to enjoy world-class shops and restaurants, lie on beaches bathed in almost constant sunshine and simply to people-watch in Beverly Hills or zany Venice Beach.
Like any major city, LA has its less rosy side with homelessness most apparent in parts of Hollywood, Downtown and Venice Beach. You may not want to be reminded of social problems when you're on vacation, but you're unlikely to feel threatened in any way.
If the USA is a melting pot, L.A is a scrumptious salad with some expected ingredients but many refreshing surprises. Keep an open mind and embrace all this City of Angels has to offer and you won't be disappointed.

There's a wide choice of hotels in LA though at the budget end, you'll have a harder time finding something that isn't part of a motel chain or a hostel. Shop around for deals, especially outside of the summer months, and be prepared to stay in the suburbs of Burbank, Glendale or North Hollywood and drive in if you want to save even more.
The Los Angeles hotels are grouped into three pricing categories:
Luxury (over US$300)
Moderate (US$150 to US$300)
Cheap (up to US$150)
These Los Angeles hotel prices are for a double room, per night, excluding breakfast and tax, unless otherwise specified. All hotel bills are subject to a 14% occupancy tax, which is added to the bill at the end of a stay. Parking fees may also apply.
Shutters on the Beach

One of only two LA luxury hotels right on the beach, Shutters combines sophisticated stylishness with a beach holiday atmosphere - understated elegance rules. The lobby has comfy couches, a gas-lit fireplace and esteemed modern art, including pieces by David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein. Each of the 198 rooms has a verandah with table and chairs and an ocean or pool view. All rooms have a four-poster bed and a copy of Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea. Dine at The One Pico restaurant or the casual Coast bar, which has a great happy hour.

Classical grandeur, impeccable service, 21st-century technology and a great location (right off Rodeo Drive) make this Four Seasons hotel renowned. (The Julia Roberts/Richard Gere movie, Pretty Woman, made it popular with tourists.) An ornately carved entrance leads to a magnificent lobby with Grecian columns and tapestries surrounded by the elegant Boulevard Restaurant and wood-panelled piano lounge. Rooms are luxurious with marble bathrooms, some overlooking the garden patio and pool - which is rather on the small side. The sleek Wolfgang Puck steakhouse, Cut, and the minimalist lounge, Sidebar, are popular with well-heeled locals. Treatments at the hotel's elegant, refurbished spa are an indulgence.

Now owned by the Sultan of Brunei, this is pure Hollywood glamour, old-style. Built in 1912, the hotel has seen the honeymoons of six of Elizabeth Taylor's marriages and was featured in the star-studded 1978 movie California Suite . The famous Polo Lounge (a nostalgic vision in pink and green stripes and palm-printed wallpaper) is still a favourite among film directors and producers. The rooms have it all, including two cable TVs (one in the bathroom), marble baths and walk-in closets, while more secluded bungalows are also available, nestled around the pool area. A whirlpool, fitness centre, tennis courts and business centre complete the scene.
The Farmer's Daughter
=========================
This funky West Hollywood boutique hotel with a rural theme has an onsite restaurant called Tart, and features denim duvets, distressed hardwood floors and wrought iron artwork. It's in a great location opposite LA's historic Farmer's Market and The Grove shopping and dining centre. It's a short walk to Fairfax Village with its Jewish delis and bakeries and close to more shopping at the the Beverly Center and to LACMA, LA's famed art museum. It's less than a mile from Rodeo Drive.
Sheraton Universal
================
Bang next door to Universal Studios and the bustling nightlife of Universal Citywalk, it's ideally placed to visit the theme park and studios. Technically in North Hollywood, it's close to Burbank (home to Warner Brothers studios) and within easy reach of Hollywood's main attractions via car or taxi or you can hop on the Metro Red Line, which is just one stop to Hollywood and Highland. The hotel has a somewhat corporate air but is relaxed enough to offer a poolside bar.

Visitors come here because this hotel manages to be both chic and affordable. They are given a glimpse of what to expect when they see the sign outside for The Standard, spelt upside-down - an example of the clever eccentricity that hotel designer André Balazs (who also refurbished Chateau Marmont) is renowned for. For example, only still photography was allowed for all the PLL sets. My favorite parts were probably taking a photo at Alison DiLaurentis’ house, Batman’s domain, and being on the set of Friends!
