Woodland

Woodland ⁱ/ˈwʊdlənd/ is a low-density forest forming open habitats with plenty of sunlight and limited shade. Woodlands may support an understory of shrubs and herbaceous plants including grasses. Woodland may form a transition to shrubland under drier conditions or during early stages of primary or secondary succession. Higher density areas of trees with a largely closed canopy that provides extensive and nearly continuous shade are referred to as forests.

Conservationists have worked hard to preserve woodlands, because people are destroying animals habitats for the usage of building homes and other buildings. For example, the woodlands in Northwest Indiana have been preserved as part of the Indiana Dunes.

Woodland is used in British woodland management to mean tree-covered areas which arose naturally and which are then managed, while forest is usually used in the British Isles to describe plantations, usually more extensive, or hunting Forests, which are a land use with a legal definition and may not be wooded at all. The term "ancient woodland" is used in British nature conservation to refer to any wooded land that has existed since 1600, and often (though not always) for thousands of years, since the last ice age (equivalent to the American term old-growth forest).

Woodland (St. Thomas Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania)

Woodland is a historic home and farm located at St. Thomas Township in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. The original section was built about 1760, and is a 2 1/2-story, three bay by two bay, fieldstone dwelling with a gable roof. A three bay by two bay limestone section was added in 1790, and a 2 1/2-story rear wing was added in 1907. A two-story porch was added to the 1790 section after 1910. Also on the property is a contributing spring house.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Woodland, California

Woodland is the county seat of Yolo County, California, located approximately 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Sacramento, and is a part of the Sacramento - Arden-Arcade - Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 55,468 at the 2010 census.

Woodland's origins trace back to 1850 when California gained its statehood and Yolo County was established. Since the town started growing in population and resources, it has not stopped. The area was well irrigated due to the efforts of James Moore, and this drew people out to try their hand at farming. The endeavor was successful as people found the soil in the area very fertile. The city gained a federal post office and the next year the county seat was moved from Washington (present day West Sacramento, California) to Woodland after Washington was flooded. The addition of a railroad line, the close proximity to Sacramento, and the more recent addition of Interstate 5, helped create a thriving city.

Prelude are an English based vocal harmony group, who in their most famous line-up consisted of Brian Hume (vocals, guitar), his wife Irene Hume (vocals) and Ian Vardy (guitars, vocals). They formed in their native Gateshead in 1970.

Career

Prelude began to write their own material and built a following on the folk circuit and in 1973 they recorded their first album, How Long Is Forever?, on Dawn Records at Rockfield recording studios in Wales. From it came their best known recording, an a cappella version of the Neil Young song "After the Gold Rush", on Dawn. In the UK, it entered the Top 50 on 26 January 1974, had a nine-week stay, peaking at Number 21. In America, it entered the Billboard Hot 100 on 11 February 1974, and had a five-week stay, peaking at #22.

Hume explained (in 1974) how the song came about: “We were standing at a bus stop in Stocksfield and we just started singing it. There was no particular reason, it was just a nice song. The way we do it now is really no different from the way we did it at the bus stop. We included it in our act and it went down really well – even the rowdier clubs listened to it. We certainly never thought of it as a possible single. In any case we always thought of ourselves as an album group rather than making singles and included the song on the album How Long Is Forever as an afterthought”.

The Party Scene

The Party Scene is the debut full-length studio album by American pop punk band All Time Low, released on July 19, 2005 via regional imprint Emerald Moon Records. Music videos were released for "Circles" and "The Girl's a Straight-Up Hustler". Tracks 2, 3, 8, 9 and 12 were re-recorded for the band's next EP, Put Up or Shut Up.
