Get the skinny on Manhattan's oldest house, where George Washington battled, Aaron Burr slept and Eliza Jumel reigned...
High on a hilltop in northern Manhattan, sits the Morris-Jumel Mansion, the borough's oldest surviving house and now a venue for an annual Jazz festival.
I had so many problems making this I may take it down and do it over, but here is a little movie I made about a ghost story I heard when I was a kid and wrote about in my book, Unbelievable: Investigations into Ghosts, Poltergeists, Telepathy, and Other Unseen Phenomena from the Duke Parapsychology Laboratory.
The Morris-Jumel Mansion finally addresses the pressing issue of whether or not it's haunted. Carol Ward, the mansion's executive director, talks about the upcoming Halloween sleepover.
This month we visit the landmark Morris-Jumel Mansion located in the aptly named Washington Heights section of Manhattan as we celebrate Revolutionary New York. Built in 1765 for British military officer Roger Morris, this National Historic Landmark once served as headquarters for General George Washington during the American Revolutionary War. It also holds the major distinction of being the oldest house in Manhattan. With the Palladian style architecture and octagonal rooms, this home introduced innovative architectural styles into North America and once had sweeping views of Lower Manhattan and the surrounding rivers. By 1810 the house was owned by wealthy French merchant Stephen Jumel, and underwent some remodeling, including the addition of the handsome entrance in the Federal style....

This month we are highlighting the architectural designs by the unsung New York hero C.B.J. Snyder. As Superintendent of Schools from 1891 to 1923, he is credited with the design of over 400 structural projects. Through his leadership and innovation Snyder transformed the school building construction process, creating beautiful buildings in Beaux Arts, Flemish Renaissance revival and Collegiate Gothic Styles. These new designs and innovations left an amazing imprint on the City and gave children a better environment for learning; classrooms with larger windows, quality construction with better fireproofing and interior courtyards for light and air ventilation. Millions of New Yorkers have benefited from the work of C.B.J. Snyder and the countless others that helped design, build and maint...
This month we visit the Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral at the corner of Mott and Prince Streets in the bustling Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan. The Cathedral broke ground in 1809 and was designed by Joseph-François Mangin, who also designed City Hall. It was the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York until the new Saint Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Avenue opened in 1879. Old St. Patrick's was demoted to a parish church, but it made a grand comeback as it was declared a basilica by Pope Benedict XVI on March 17, 2010. The church was designated a New York City landmark in 1966, and the cathedral complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Learn more about St. Patrick's Old Cathedral. Watch our video, then plan your visit.
Powered by http://www.tanmarket.com - Upper Manhattan denotes the more northerly region of the New York City Borough of Manhattan. Its southern boundary may be defined anywhere between 59th Street and 125th Street. Between these two extremes lies the most common definition of Upper Manhattan as Manhattan above 96th Street (the southern boundary of Manhattan Valley in the west and Spanish Harlem in the east). This definition of Upper Manhattan takes in the neighborhoods of Marble Hill, Inwood, Washington Heights (including Fort George, Sherman Creek and Hudson Heights), Harlem (including Sugar Hill and Hamilton Heights), and parts of the Upper West Side (Morningside Heights and Manhattan Valley). In the late 19th century, the IRT Ninth Avenue Line and other elevated railroads brought urba...

And while I'm wishing, what I could do to you,
(I'd like) to see you when you could bring it on,
(And I would like) to see if we could get it on,
(I'd like) to see if I could turn it out,
You know what I'm about,
So shake that ass and let me hear you shout.
Bounce bounce, go and get your freak on,
That's the way we get it off,

So shake that ass and let me hear you shout.
