Volbrecht Nagel (1867-1921) was a German missionary who came to the Malabar Coast in the late c19 to join the Basel Mission where the famous scholar Herman Gundert had worked. Nagel lived in India only for two decades before his short life ended at 54 years of age in Germany on his second visit back. In Malabar, his mastery of Malayalam attracted many to his public addresses and books. . Nagel wrote around 100 Malayalam devotional songs, all of which are now found in Christian hymnals across denominations. Perhaps one song most easily recognized because of its movie fame is "Samayamaam Radhatthil," adopted for the award winning film, Ara Naazhika Neram (1970), fifty years after Nagel's death.
Nagel was also a humanitarian. He built schools, primary health care services for the poor, and homes for widows and orphans. Although most have heard his songs or seen his work, few knew much about him. Through six years of steadfast research, Professor Varghese Mathai has produced a biography of Nagel, with original material on his life from youth onwards. The title of the book is THE MALABAR MANDATE: A LIFE OF VOLBRECHT NAGEL (ICHE, Switzerland, 2015), available through Paypal at ThinkingReedPress@gmail. Das schönste Cafe Calws - befindet sich am oberen Ende des historischen Marktplatzes, mitten in Kindheit und Jugend von Herman Hesse und seinem literarischen Fachwerk. Diesem kann man in Calw nur schwer entkommt (Museum befindet sich gleich im Nebenhaus ). Der Name des Lokals soll vermutlich die widersprüchliche Verbindung schaffen zwischen dem damalig streng-pietistischen Calw (welches Kaffeehäuser weniger kannte) und seinem –„italienischem“ Ferienort im Tesin (Aprops, unser Kaffeeurteil: Espresso-Derivate sind im Montagnola allesamt auf bestem italienischen Niveau!). Auch das sonntägliche Prosecco-Frühstückspublikum scheint im romanhaften Sturm und Drang und seinem eigenen Widerspruch hängengeblieben zu sein. Wie gesagt, man entkommt Hesse nicht. Uns gefällt das Montagnola umso mehr, auch weil Gastwirtin so positiv erfrischend und Angebot eher cafe-untypisch sind: Unsere Empfehlung Himbeerquark oder Müsli im Glas, ebenso der Kuchen des Tages. Schöne Atmosphäre, egal ob sommers im Freien vor dem Lokal (mit herrlichem Blick über den Marktplatz bis hinunter zu Hesses Geburtshaus; befindet sich "unterm Rad"-Haus) oder gemütlich bei calw-üblichem Dauerregen im hell verglasten Gastraum zwischen Stahlguss-Träger und alter Balkendecke. Die witzig-wirre Museumsbestuhlung ist vermutlich schwäbisches und gestalterisches Element zugleich.

Hermann Gundert
Rev. Dr. Hermann Gundert (Stuttgart, 4 February 1814 – 25 April 1893 in Calw, Germany) was a German missionary, scholar, and linguist, as well as the grandfather of German novelist and Nobel laureate Hermann Hesse. Gundert compiled a Malayalam grammar book, Malayalabhaasha Vyakaranam (1859), in which he developed and constricted the grammar spoken by the Keralites, nowadays; a Malayalam-English dictionary (1872), and contributed to work on Bible translations into Malayalam. He worked primarily at Thalassery on the Malabar coast, in Kerala, India. Gundert also contributed to the fields of history, geography and astronomy.
Early Years
At the age of 5 he entered Latin School in Stuttgart, Germany, joined the "Lower Seminary" at Maulbronn in 1827 and entered the "Higher Seminary" - the Protestant "Stift"- and the University Tuebingen. In 1835 he obtained a doctoral degree in Philology from Tuebingen and successfully completed his theological studies.

Manorama News
Manorama News (also known as MM TV) is a Malayalam language news channel owned and operated by Malayala Manorama. The channel, based at Aroor Alleppey, was launched on 17 August 2006, which coincided with the Malayalam New Year. The channel was launched with the assistance of media consulting company Mediaguru Consultants Pvt. Ltd.
The thirty-minute simultaneous newscast of regional news, Nattuvartha, from three regions of Kerala, viz. Malabar region, Kochi Region and Travancore region was done for the first time in the country.
Johny Lukose is the News Director and he also anchors a programme "Nere Chove". Romy Mathew and Pramod Raman are the Coordinating Editors of the channel and heads the input and output functions respectively.

Das schönste Cafe Calws - befindet sich am oberen Ende des historischen Marktplatzes, mitten in Kindheit und Jugend von Herman Hesse und seinem literarischen Fachwerk. Diesem kann man in Calw nur schwer entkommt (Museum befindet sich gleich im Nebenhaus ). Der Name des Lokals soll vermutlich die widersprüchliche Verbindung schaffen zwischen dem damalig streng-pietistischen Calw (welches Kaffeehäuser weniger kannte) und seinem –„italienischem“ Ferienort im Tesin (Aprops, unser Kaffeeurteil: Espresso-Derivate sind im Montagnola allesamt auf bestem italienischen Niveau!). Auch das sonntägliche Prosecco-Frühstückspublikum scheint im romanhaften Sturm und Drang und seinem eigenen Widerspruch hängengeblieben zu sein. Wie gesagt, man entkommt Hesse nicht. Uns gefällt das Montagnola umso mehr, auch weil Gastwirtin so positiv erfrischend und Angebot eher cafe-untypisch sind: Unsere Empfehlung Himbeerquark oder Müsli im Glas, ebenso der Kuchen des Tages. Schöne Atmosphäre, egal ob sommers im Freien vor dem Lokal (mit herrlichem Blick über den Marktplatz bis hinunter zu Hesses Geburtshaus; befindet sich "unterm Rad"-Haus) oder gemütlich bei calw-üblichem Dauerregen im hell verglasten Gastraum zwischen Stahlguss-Träger und alter Balkendecke. Die witzig-wirre Museumsbestuhlung ist vermutlich schwäbisches und gestalterisches Element zugleich.
