Cassandra (Greek: Κασσάνδρα, pronounced [kas̚sándra͜a], also Κασάνδρα), also known as Alexandra or Kassandra, was the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy.
A common version of her story is that, in an effort to seduce her, Apollo gave her the power of prophecy—but when she refused him, he spat into her mouth to inflict a curse that nobody would ever believe her prophecies. In an alternate version, she fell asleep in a temple, and snakes licked (or whispered in) her ears so that she could hear the future. A snake as a source of knowledge is a recurring theme in Greek mythology, though sometimes the snake brings understanding of the language of animals rather than an ability to know the future. Cassandra is a figure of epic tradition and of tragedy.
Hjalmar Frisk (Griechisches Etymologisches Wörterbuch, Heidelberg, 1960–1970) notes "unexplained etymology", citing "various hypotheses" found in Wilhelm Schulze, Kleine Schriften (1966), 698, J. B. Hoffmann, Glotta 28, 52, Edgar Howard Sturtevant, Class. Phil. 21, 248ff., J. Davreux, La légende de la prophétesse Cassandre (Paris, 1942) 90ff., and Albert Carnoy, Les ét. class. 22, 344. R. S. P. Beekes (Etymological Dictionary of Greek, Brill, 2009, p. 654) cites García Ramón's derivation of the name from the Proto-Indo-European root *(s)kend- "raise".
Channel Awesome, Inc. is an online media production company based in Lombard, Illinois. The company was created in 2008 by Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, and Bhargav Dronamraju. Channel Awesome operated the That Guy with the Glasses website (often shortened to TGWTG) until late 2014, when it was replaced by the current Channel Awesome website.
That Guy With The Glasses previously hosted fellow channels by Bar Fiesta beginning in November 2009, Blistered Thumbs beginning in November 2010. As of May 2015, Channel Awesome currently hosts a YouTube channel of the same name with an emphasis on the Walker Brothers' content, as well as the YouTube channel League of Super Critic that includes several of the site's other top producers. All of Channel Awesome's content is hosted by Blip or YouTube.
Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis and Bhargav Dronamraju created Channel Awesome after they were laid off from Circuit City in 2007. The three discussed the idea of such a company while still employed, but their dismissal was the impetus to put their plans into action. Michaud has stated that "If we didn't lose our jobs, [the business] wouldn't have happened anytime soon."
Callbacks are great! I was given the opportunity to audition for this role (Mrs. Atwood in "Clerical Errors") a second time, and was graciously given permission to post this video so my friends may see it. My first version of Mrs. Atwood was quite the opposite of what you see here -- she was a very loud, animated, heavily make-upped woman. Casting saw the first audition, liked my performance, and asked me to do this role again -- in a "ratty housecoat and with curlers in my hair". Just to up the stakes a bit, I made her a little more "Bronx"-ish and fussy, just for fun. Enjoy. :)
It was a pleasure to audition for this role. This is "Virginia" for the movie, "Healed By Grace" to be filmed in Fort Wayne, IN early this Fall. There are two cuts -- the first is a tighter shot, and the second take shows more of the body language. Thank you so much for watching!
This is the audition I filmed for a contest on if.net where I could win a walk-on role on the FOX-TV show "Bones".
Only have a minute? Well, this is the demo for you. It features snippets of 4 of my leading and supporting movie characters. Thanks for watching and enjoy!
Thank you for watching my 2 minute film reel. It contains clips from Black Figs (drama), Bottom of the Glass (comedy), A Whisper in the Dark (suspense), In A Flash (corporate industrial), and Clerical Errors (romantic comedy). If you would like to view my resume or photo gallery, please check out my IMDb profile: www.imdb.me/cassandraschomer. Enjoy!
This is my full demo reel showcasing several of my film and commercial works.
Written by Jeremy Gray and produced and filmed by William Reliford of RealImages Video, "Cassandra" is the detective/cop genre entry for the 2008 48 Hour Film Festival contest in Indianapolis, IN. I played Cassie, a desperate woman who hires a detective to find her missing sister, Sandra. As the story unfolds, the audience learns that the whole story is a figment of the detective's imagination. The detective views a painting entitled, "Cassandra" and due to his fragile mental state, he invents his subsequent wild goose chase looking for the girl in the painting.
Here it is! My 3-minute demo for your viewing pleasure. This reel showcases 5 different character depictions I have performed in independent films. Thanks for watching and enjoy! :)
This was a commercial audition for Family Hyundai that I was able to tape at home instead of traveling to my agency in Chicago. Had I taped the audition at the agency's studio, it would have only been for one of the four parts. But since I was able to tape it here at home, I exercised my creative license and taped all four parts and edited them together. I didn't book the commercial, but my agency was very happy with my audition. Enjoy! :)
This is the second video that I uploaded to BigShotLive.com so I could get my big shot at going to Hollywood in the Acting category.
