Jaffa is the oldest city on the Mediterranean Sea.
Jaffa : (Arab. Yaffa, Heb. Yafo, Bible Joppa) lies on the Mediterranean Sea. Founded by the Canaanites in the 18 th century B.C.E., Jaffa has been historically important largely because of its port (which was closed in 1965 to merchant shipping). The small old port is used as a fishing harbor and became an international marina. From archaeological discoveries and ancient documents we learn that Jaffa existed as a port city some 4,000 years ago, serving Egyptian and Phoenician sailors in their sea voyages.

Jaffa (English pronunciation: /ˈdʒæfə/, /ˈdʒɑːfə/;Hebrew: יָפוֹ, 
Yāfō (help·info); Arabic: يَافَا Yāfā (help·info); Latin: Joppe; also Japho, Joppa (transliteration from the Greek "Ιόππη") is an ancient port city believed[by whom?] to be one of the oldest in the world. Jaffa was incorporated with Tel Aviv in 1950 creating the city of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel. Jaffa is famous for its association with the biblical story of the prophet Jonah.
The name of the city is mentioned in Egyptian sources and the Amarna Letters as Yapu. There are several legends about the origin of the name Jaffa. Some say it is named for Japheth, one of the sons of Noah, who built it after the Great Flood.[citation needed] The Hellenist tradition links the name to "Iopeia", which is Cassiopeia, the mother of Andromeda. An outcropping of rocks near the harbor is reputed to have been the place from which Andromeda was rescued by Perseus. Pliny the Elder associates the name with Jopa, the daughter of Aeolus, god of wind. The Arab geographer Al-Muqaddasi mentions it under the name Yaffa, which is used by Arabic speakers today.

Step 2 : In a bowl, mix together jelly, marmalade and boiling water until the jelly has dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Pour the filling mixture into a shallow baking tray or large dish to form a thin layer of jelly. Place in a freezer. Step 3 : For the cakes, bring water to the boil in a pan, then reduce the heat until the water is simmering. Suspend a heatproof bowl over the water (do not allow the base of the bowl to touch the water). Add the eggs and sugar to the bowl and beat continuously for 4-5 minutes, or until the mixture is pale, fluffy and well combined. Step 3 : Add the flour, beating continuously, until a thick, smooth batter forms. Step 4 : Fill a 12-hole muffin tin with the cake batter. Transfer the tin to the oven and bake the cakes for 8-10 minutes, or until pale golden-brown and cooked through (the cakes are cooked through when a skewer inserted into the centre of the cakes comes out clean.) Remove from the oven and set the cakes aside, still in their tray, until cool. Step 5 : When the jelly has set and the cakes have cooled, cut small discs from the layer of jelly, equal in diameter to the cakes. Sit one jelly disc on top of each cake. Step 6 : Melt your dark chocolate in a microwave in 30 second breaks and then cool it down a little. Step 7 : Add the chocolate onto each cake and smooth over with your finger. Jaffa is the oldest city on the Mediterranean Sea. Jaffa : (Arab. Yaffa, Heb. Yafo, Bible Joppa) lies on the Mediterranean Sea. Founded by the Canaanites in the 18 th century B.C.E., Jaffa has been historically important largely because of its port (which was closed in 1965 to merchant shipping). The small old port is used as a fishing harbor and became an international marina. Founded by the Canaanites in the 18 th century B.C.E., Jaffa has been historically important largely because of its port (which was closed in 1965 to merchant shipping). The small old port is used as a fishing harbor and became an international marina. From archaeological discoveries and ancient documents we learn that Jaffa existed as a port city some 4,000 years ago, serving Egyptian and Phoenician sailors in their sea voyages.
Music used in this video is Called Dabke دبكة and it's a popular palestinian music. Song name is -ya zaref atool- by ابراهيم صبيحات

For the cakes
2 eggs
50 gr OR 1/4 cup of caster sugar
50g gr OR 1/4 cup of plain flour, sieved
For the filling
1 x 135g or 1 packet of orange jelly
1 tbsp orange marmalade (optional)
125ml of boiling water
200 gr or 1 cup of dark chocolate, minimum 70 per cent cocoa solids
Directions:
Step 1 : Preheat your oven to 180C / 350F.
Step 2 : In a bowl, mix together jelly, marmalade and boiling water until the jelly has dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Pour the filling mixture into a shallow baking tray or large dish to form a thin layer of jelly. Place in a freezer.
Step 3 : For the cakes, bring water to the boil in a pan, then reduce the heat until the water is simmering. Suspend a heatproof bowl over the water (do not allow the base of the bowl to touch the water). Add the eggs and sugar to the bowl and beat continuously for 4-5 minutes, or until the mixture is pale, fluffy and well combined.
Step 3 : Add the flour, beating continuously, until a thick, smooth batter forms.
Step 4 : Fill a 12-hole muffin tin with the cake batter. Transfer the tin to the oven and bake the cakes for 8-10 minutes, or until pale golden-brown and cooked through (the cakes are cooked through when a skewer inserted into the centre of the cakes comes out clean.) Remove from the oven and set the cakes aside, still in their tray, until cool.
Step 5 : When the jelly has set and the cakes have cooled, cut small discs from the layer of jelly, equal in diameter to the cakes. Sit one jelly disc on top of each cake.
Step 6 : Melt your dark chocolate in a microwave in 30 second breaks and then cool it down a little.
Step 7 : Add the chocolate onto each cake and smooth over with your finger. Place in a fridge until they are set and enjoy!

In this extremely simple video recipe Barry Lewis shows you how to make some delicious homemade jaffa cakes. The great thing about these is how easy they are to customise and alter the flavour, Jaffa cakes are one of my most favourite snacks and this is a great chance to have a go at making your own this really is the most basic way to make them so feel free to ramp them up a bit with marmalade, orange zest, juice or even extract
Ingredients:
2 eggs, room temperature
60g plain flour, (1/2 cup)
60g caster sugar, (1/4 cup)
1 pack orange jelly mix
200g dark chocolate (1 cup)

I held the record for most Jaffa cakes eaten in 1 minute which was 13, that got broken, so I set the record again with 17.
Rules for this record:
1. Jaffa cakes are biscuit-like cakes that comprise three layers: a sponge cake base, a fruit-flavoured jelly, and a layer of chocolate covering the jelly and margin of the sponge.
2. The Jaffa cakes must be of minimum size 54mm (2.125in) in diameter, and must be eaten as they come from the pack - they may not be altered or modified in any way.
3. You must completely swallow one Jaffa cake before eating the next one (show your mouth is empty).
4. No drinking is permitted during the record attempt
5 Only Jaffa cakes completely swallowed during the one minute period are to be counted toward your final score.
6. As with all consumption record challenges, we strongly recommend you do not attempt this multiple times in one day
Calling out Yogscast to try this, Come on Yogscast eat those Jaffa Cakes. Everyone go and tell Yogscast to try this :)

I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Know as Yafo in Hebrew and Yaffa in Arabic, Jaffa is historically the most ancient area in and around Tel Aviv.
With a diverse population it is where most of the Arab population settles in Tel Aviv.
From various vantage points one can enjoy gorgeous beach promenade views. This area, in particular, is especially popular with fitness buffs enjoying jogging, running, swimming and surfing.
With restored alleys, art galleries and quaint cafes, Jaffe is a city that is very pedestrian friendly.
While strolling along the Jaffa seaport we spotted fishermen and street musicians busking for coins.
After scarfing down hummus and other delectable Israeli and Arab snacks, we spent the rest of our time making our way down narrow lanes of the Flea Market and Bazaar. From antiques to souvenirs this is where tourists load up on items such as finely crafted hookahs and postcards to send home.

You can find lots of really cool items in this market. They have antiques, souvenirs, paintings, furniture.
So we really enjoyed exploring Jaffa or Yaffo as they like to call it. So my favorite thing about wandering around Jaffa has been that they have these narrow little alleys that are just kind of like a maze and you come across these friendly little cats that are just hanging out, so it's been a really fun place to explore. It's also a nice sunny day and we're right by the sea, so it was a great morning out and a nice little introduction to Israel.

When you think of traveling to Israel visiting religious sites in Jerusalem or basing yourself in Tel Aviv may initially come to mind. However, when exploring Israel it is paramount to set aside enough time to get off the beaten path and explore more of the country. Fortunately, for us, we were able to make two separate trips to Israel experiencing as much food, culture, historical and modern attractions as we possibly could.
The following is a list of things to do in Israel with a focus on the top attractions in this travel guide:
1) Regardless of whether you can swim (or not swim) well you will most certainly float when visiting the Dead Sea. Covering yourself in gooey mud and joining others floating is one of the top attractions in Israel.
2) No trip to Israel would be complete without sampling the local cuisine and especially the street food. With this in mind we walked all the way from our hotel room in Tel Aviv to Jaffa - an ancient city renowned for its amazing hummus and other street food. Aside from just hummus we were able to try Shaksouka, cheese stuffed pastries, malabi and kanafeh.
3) Having the opportunity to take a tour of the West Bank (or Palestine) is an eye opening experience. Media coverage, from the perspective of the west, often depicts this area as being quite unruly and poor; however, a tour there really dispels a lot of myths. We had the opportunity to eat falafel, walking around the streets and get a real sense of what life is like in this region. Some highlights included visiting Sheppard's Field, the Jordan River and oldest city in the world - Jericho. To end our trip we drank beer at the West Bank Palestinian brewery.
4) Getting off the beaten track a little we visited Rosh Hanikra. Known as the window to the Mediterranean we were treated to breathtaking views and an amazing sunset.
5) Aside from just eating our way around Jaffa, we took the time to properly explore it on foot. One of the top highlights was visiting a traditional flea market,
6) Taking the cable car up to visit Masada was a welcome relief considering how hot it was on the day we visited. As we wandered about we visited an old water cistern and Byzantine church. From our vantage point we had amazingly unobstructed views of the Dead Sea.
7) Caesarea! The ruins of the ancient city once given from Agus Caesar to Harrod the Great was an experience we'll never forget. Walking around in the Hippodrome allowed me to visualize what the old chariot races must have been like.
8) One of my favorite meals in Israel was prepared by a Druze family. This amazing feast, in the form of a buffet, featured kebabs, olives, chicken and stuffed cabbage just to name a few.
9) Wondering wear to rest your sleepy head while traveling in Israel? Look no further than the Fauzi Azar Inn in Nazareth. This converted Arab Mansion offers a charming stay. Best of all is that free cake and coffee is available throughout the day and the buffet breakfast is amazing.
10) One of the more frontier attractions was visiting Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. We toured around the Banias Reserve and Mount Bental.
11) Considering how tasty the food is in Israel it would be a shame to leave without knowing how to recreate these delectable delights back home in your own kitchen. Fortunately, for us, we were able to take a cooking class at Dan Gourmet in Tel Aviv. We learned how to make Lahmacun and charred eggplant amongst other dishes.
12) Have you ever wondered how olive oil is made? Visiting an olive press answered our all of our questions and made us appreciate the craft of making this high quality cooking oil. For the best vantage point of Nazareth we headed to Mount Precipice for panoramic 360 degree views. Finally, we visited Haifa to check out the famous Bahá'í gardens.

Visit ancient buildings thousands of years old and meet Yehuda Agronimos, a Jaffa man of the first century CE, who lived in an ancient house in the middle of the visitors' center. Yehuda Agronimos meets various personae of Jaffa that come to lodge at his home and recount to him the tales of the city.

My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
