River Roding
The River Roding is a river in England that rises near Dunmow, flows through Essex and forms Barking Creek as it reaches the River Thames in London. Before 1965, the river was entirely in Essex.
The river leaves Dunmow and passes through or near a group of villages in Essex known collectively as the Rodings, as they all end with the suffix 'Roding'. After Chipping Ongar, the river flows under the M25 motorway by Passingford Bridge and Abridge.
The river then runs past Loughton and between Chigwell and Woodford Green where the Roding Valley Meadows make up the largest surviving area of traditionally managed river-valley habitat in Essex. This nature reserve consists of unimproved wet and dry hay meadows, rich with flora and fauna and bounded by thick hedgerows, scrubland, secondary woodland and tree plantation. The meadows stretch down to the M11 motorway and Roding Valley tube station is situated close to the area, although Loughton or Buckhurst Hill are better placed for a visit.

River
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as stream, creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague.
Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Water generally collects in a river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs, and the release of stored water in natural ice and snowpacks (e.g. from glaciers). Potamology is the scientific study of rivers while limnology is the study of inland waters in general.

Regencia e a Lama no Rio Doce - River Runs Red, Midnight Oil
A sad day-trip to Regencia, on 25th Nov 2015, to see the toxic mud arriving at the ocean after Samarco's dam burst in the South-East of Brazil. Expecting to see a lot of destruction by the mouth of the river in Regência, we were shocked to see so much pollution, fire and devastation all along the way from Vitória. During periods of extreme weather; such as heavy snow experienced in past winters, communities and individuals can do a lot to help themselves and others. Self-help is actively promoted as it is about communities coming together to help each other on a voluntary basis to target their local needs and build their resilience.
Essex County Council operates the Salt Bag Partnership scheme which is designed to help local communities support themselves during periods of heavy snow. One tonne of bagged salt, delivery and a support pack is provided, free of charge, to help County Councillors and Parish Councils organise the scheme and to provide helpful information to volunteers. It is also an opportunity to plan ahead and think about how your community will be ready for winter.
How does it work?
Each participating council/urban area is given one tonne of palleted salt (approx 40 x 25kg bags) for use on locations they consider important in their local community, such as footpaths outside doctors surgeries, local shops and services and access routes to main bus stops. Remember you don't need to salt those sites already on the salting route.
These priority areas will then be cleared by volunteers in the event of snow.
Once we know the list of participants we will publish it on this page. You can use this to check if your local council/urban area are taking part.
How do I sign up?
We contact all Parish/Town Clerks by the end of May with a link to the online form where they are asked if they still have enough salt from last year, if they require more salt, or do not wish to participate for that year. The closing date for this year is 22 July 2016. The salt bags will be delivered to the person named on the form prior to the start of the winter season.
Can I volunteer to help?
Parish and Town Councils and urban areas participating in the scheme always need reliable local volunteers to help them clear snow from the pavement and salt during the winter. If you would like to get involved in your local community and want to volunteer in your local area, please contact your participating Parish/Town Council.

This particular day however, we were lucky and there was actually a pretty good hatch which forced the trout to search the surface of the river. But did Stefan catch his first fish of the season?

A sad day-trip to Regencia, on 25th Nov 2015, to see the toxic mud arriving at the ocean after Samarco's dam burst in the South-East of Brazil. Expecting to see a lot of destruction by the mouth of the river in Regência, we were shocked to see so much pollution, fire and devastation all along the way from Vitória. Wanted to add subtitles explaining the images and the situation, but feeling speechless about the situation.

My Epic Trike Ride to Cardinals Stadium!
On Saturday, May 5, I decided to explore new paths on my recumbent TerraTrike Rover tricycle. I started on 73rd Avenue and West Campo Bello Drive in Glendale, AZ where I work, and rode towards Peoria's Rio Vista Park near the Thunderbird exit of the Arizona Loop 101. Then, I rode across the suspension bridge to the other side of the New River, and rode South as far as I had time to go. As I was riding along, I looked across the New River and saw the Cardinals Stadium! I figured I had better turn around, because if I went any further I would probably end up in 3 feet of snow and people would be speaking a different language. On Saturday, May 5, I decided to explore new paths on my recumbent TerraTrike Rover tricycle. I started on 73rd Avenue and West Campo Bello Drive in Glendale, AZ where I work, and rode towards Peoria's Rio Vista Park near the Thunderbird exit of the Arizona Loop 101. Then, I rode across the suspension bridge to the other side of the New River, and rode South as far as I had time to go. As I was riding along, I looked across the New River and saw the Cardinals Stadium! I figured I had better turn around, because if I went any further I would probably end up in 3 feet of snow and people would be speaking a different language. Or maybe I would fall off the edge of the world or something.
On this ride, I spend quite a bit of time on the way back exploring Peoria's Rio Vista Park-- definitely a great place to take the family. This video also includes a fly-by of each segment of the ride using Google Earth Pro.
This ride was 22.4 miles long down and back, which I did in just under 2 hours.
I lost enough weight on just this one ride that my shorts fell off when I stood up! (Don't worry, that's NOT in the video)
Skip the gym-- ride a bike! Or better yet, a recumbent tricycle!
Equipment: TerraTrike Rover recumbent tricycle with a NuVinci 360N continuously variable transmission, 750W mid-drive eRad Class 2 eTrike system, running on 20-inch Maxxis Hookworm tires (110 psi) with kevlar inner linings and thorn-proof inner tubes (nearing 500 miles and NEVER had to change a tire). Accessories include a TerraTrike safety flag, rack, extra wide seat and handle bars, a pair of Ortlieb Waterproof Back City Roller Panniers. Shimano SPD shoes (RO88) and pedals (dual-sided).
Camera Used: Sony HDR-AS30V Action Camera with GPS Tracking, recorded in 1080p at 30fps using a helmet mount.

The government says 90 per cent of New Zealand's lakes and rivers will be clean enough to swim in by 2040 - according to new targets announced this afternoon ...
