HIDDEN ERROR: Usage of "religion" is not recognized
Leonard Norman Cohen, CC GOQ (born 21 September 1934) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, painter, poet, and novelist. His work has explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships. Cohen has been inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is also a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honor. In 2011, Cohen received a Princess of Asturias Awards for literature.
The critic Bruce Eder assessed Cohen's overall career in popular music by asserting that "[he is] one of the most fascinating and enigmatic … singer/songwriters of the late '60s … [and] has retained an audience across four decades of music-making.... Second only to Bob Dylan (and perhaps Paul Simon) [in terms of influence], he commands the attention of critics and younger musicians more firmly than any other musical figure from the 1960s who is still working at the outset of the 21st century."
I Am may refer to:
I Am a Hotel is a 1983 Canadian made for TV short musical film, written by Leonard Cohen and Mark Shekter and directed by Allan F. Nicholls.
The storyline is based on imaginary events in the King Edward Hotel in Toronto, and the guests' (usually romantic) interactions with each other.
Leonard Cohen had the idea for the film based upon his personal experiences and his song The Guests. It was originally intended for the Canadian pay TV network C-Channel, but when the network collapsed, the production was completed by Citytv with financial assistance from Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and the Canadian Film Development Corporation.
Cohen features frequently, as an amused bystander ('the Resident'). Extensive dance routines in scenes 2 and 3 were choreographed by Ann(e) Ditchburn, who also dances as the Gypsy wife in scene 3. There are five scenes, each based on a Cohen song.
A short epilogue repeats the opening material from 'The Guests'. The final credits give the makers as 'Blue Memorial Video Ltd' and dedicate the piece to David Blue (1941-1982).
Allan F. Nicholls (born April 8, 1945) in Montreal, Quebec, is a Canadian actor, film director, film producer, screenwriter, composer and musician. He was nominated for both a BAFTA and WGA award for his writing on the 1978 film A Wedding. He is often credited as Allan Nicholls. Allan was lead vocalist in the mid-60s with recording acts J.B. & The Playboys (RCA), who later became The Jaybees (on RCA) then Carnival Connection (Capitol). After playing Claude in the musical "Hair" he returned to Montreal to briefly sing lead vocals with Mashmakhan before releasing a number of solo recordings (with some charting in Canada) before delving into a career with the movie industry. A "J.B. & The Playboys - Anthology" CD was released by Super Oldies in 2005. He is probably most well known to the general public for his role as team captain Johnny Upton in the cult classic hockey movie Slap Shot.
Nicholls' grandfather was hall of fame goaltender Riley Hern who played for the Montreal Wanderers. The Wanderers won the Stanley Cup with Hern in goal in 1908, 1909 and 1911.

Now I've heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to a kitchen chair She broke your throne, and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Now maybe there’s a God above As for me all I've ever learned from love Is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you But it's not a cry that you hear tonight It's not some pilgrim who claims to have seen the...

There are over 300 known versions of this song and the original draft lyrics written by Cohen contains around 80 verses. The song contains several biblical references, most notably evoking the stories of Samson and treacherous Delilah from the Book of Judges ("she cut your hair") as well as King David and Bathsheba ("you saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you").

This informal black-and-white portrait of Leonard Cohen shows him at age 30 on a visit to his hometown of Montreal, where the poet, novelist and songwriter comes "to renew his neurotic affiliations." He reads his poetry to an enthusiastic crowd, strolls the streets of the city, relaxes in this three-dollar-a-night hotel room and even takes a bath. Directed by Donald Brittain & Don Owen - 1965

Extensive interview by Patrick Watson, broadcast on CBC february 8th 1980 in the show 'Authors'. With poem readings of Death of a Lady's Man. Leonard talking about drugs, writing, marriage and many other things. Shortly after the release of his 1992 album ‘The Future’, Leonard Cohen had a long chat with Dave Fanning. The interview was broadcast on Dave’s RTE show on 21st January 1993. Leonard played four gigs at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, on September 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th 2012. Cohen returned to the spot where he was reduced to tears four years earlier. The singer broke a 10-year hiatus from live shows when he performed in the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 2008. Concert impresario Rob Hallett who persuaded the singer and poet out of retirement, said he used a show in Dublin two years earlier to win his argument. The promoter and life-long fan persuaded Cohen there was a massive audience waiting to see him on the back of a two-night tribute concert ‘Came So Far for Beauty‘ ...

Cohen also chatted to Jools about his vision and his career and enjoyed seeing a clip of his duet with Julie Felix on Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye from her 1967 BBC TV series, Once More with Felix, for the very first time. It was a windy day in May in 1976. I never thought it would really happen, an interview with Canadian poet Leonard Cohen. But there was his voice, unmistakable, on the phone. Not his agent nor the record company. "Hi, this is Leonard Cohen". A few hours later we met in the lobby of the Hamburg Hotel Europäischer Hof. Management wanted us to film the interview in one of their suites. That wasn't right, not for Leonard Cohen. So we found an empty room in the hotel cellar, the dining hall for staff. While the crew lit the surrroundings appropriately, I asked Leonard where his guitar was. He didn't know he would be needing it, he said. But he walked back to his room to fetch it. And we recorded a very magical, unimaginable person interview that day. And knowing our 16mm camera cassette only he...

Tal Rosenzweig was born in Israel in 1967, but grew up in Copenhagen. In this video he presents a series of pictures about places in Copenhagen, that he "rhymes on" - places, that are familiar to him and that in a way only exist, because he personally relates to them. Painting something so close to you is on the one hand too simple, on the other hand completely impossible, Tal R states in this interview. "But there is also something magical about, that people can take their bike and look at the places, I have painted". In the video, Tal R talks about four paintings which are especially close to him, starting wi...
In late 2003, Leonard Cohen's song "Hallelujah" was mostly known as a male-sung ballad. Allison Crowe unleashed a vitally different interpretation on "Tidings" - her '03 EP that proved so popular it's re-released the next year as a full-length CD. Five years later, pretty much to the day, BBC Radio 2 in the UK broadcast an one-hour documentary on the song, which, by this time, was being covered almost continually. Host of "The Fourth, the Fifth, the Minor Fall" is Guy Garvey of the band Elbow. The BBC crew caught up with Allison Crowe at View Two Gallery in Liverpool, England - where she was visiting as a guest for Beatles Week. People have an inlaid feeling that they have the ability to predict the future, or if they see patterns they have a built in feeling that they’re meaningful, and a built in feeling that they can control things. - Leonard Mlodinow The narrative in People stems from the interview That’s so random! by Leonard Mlodinow. The interview describes how people naturally want to give meaning to what they see. Put together with a structure inspired by Rudolf von Laban's A-scale it has resulted in a confusing, hypnotizing, bizarre and occasionally frantic piece where the dancers persistently explore patterns in and around the space.
