JR Shin Aomori Station is located in Aomori City and is primarily used to provide the Shinkansen Service to the Aomori City. The Tohoku Shinkansen line terminates here and the famous Hayabusa Shinkansen runs from Tokyo to Shin Aomori Station. In addition to the Shinkansen lines this station also services the JR lines.
As of 2014, plans are underway to extend the Shinkansen line to Hakodate and eventually to Sopporo under the name Hokkaido Shinkansen. The new line will use the famous Seikan Tunnel built under the Tsugaru Strait connecting the main Island of Honshu and the Hokkaido Island. Enjoy.

JR Aomori Station is located in Aomori City and along with JR Shin Aomori Station is the gateway to the Aomori City.
While JR Shin Aomori Station provides access to both Shinkansen and JR Lines, JR Aomori Station only services regular JR lines.
But if you are visiting Aomori city, make sure that you book your hotel around Aomori Station because this is where the downtown and the shopping districts are. Also, it has a full service bus stop to take you to various places within Aomori City. Enjoy.

The Nebuta Matsuri is considered by many as Japan's top festival and I traveled 600 km north to the northern most city of Honshu to participate in the fun!
What makes Nebuta so amazing?
★ It could be the illuminated Nebuta floats that are pulled down on the city streets, turning and bowing to the crowd.
They're often in the form of mythological Japanese gods or dieties, larger than life in size.
★ Perhaps it's the taiko drums and flute players that make this festival no 1. The beat with those mystical flutes stays in your mind and body days after the festival has ended.
★ It could be the haneto dancers dressed in special yukata dancing and screaming Rasera! Rasera!
The answer is that they all when put together make this festival a must-see when you visit Japan in the summer.

Video footage from my train trip between Sendai (Miyagi prefecture) and Hakodate (in Hokkaido) via Aomori, in Japan, on the 31st of December, 2013 (New Year's Eve!). I have included some takes of Aomori and Hakodate, including the Hakodate cable and the Hakodate mount.
Trains:
1) Sendai - Shin Aomori: Hayabusa super express (shinkansen).
2) Shin Aomori - Aomori: Akebono limited express.
3) Aomori - Hakodate: Super Hakucho limited express.
I hope train / Japan / countryside lovers enjoy it as I did!
PS: note the Akebono limited express (the historic night train travelling from Tokyo to Aomori via Akita) and the stop at the Tappi-Kaitei undersea station in the Seikan tunnel. The PA system says: "the train will stop at the Tappi-Kaitei station, but the doors will not open". The station was sadly closed recently, in order to make room for the Hokkaido shinkansen.

My Ancient Aomori Apartment~青森で古いアパート〜
Hey everyone! I found an old video I made when I first arrived in Japan. It's a tour of my Aomori-ken apartment that I never was able to post! The apartment was only 9,000 yen a month and very old with some interesting contraptions. I remember it was so creepy that I slept with the hall light on for a few weeks. Also, about the bathtub, in the winter, the metal box would freeze up and I would have to dump hot water over it to take a shower...sucked. Aomori Nebuta Festival 2014
The Aomori Nebuta Festival is one of northern Japan's most popular and colorful summer festivals. Held in downtown Aomori City from 2 to 7 August each year, the festival features night parades and concludes on the 7th with the floats on barges in the harbor and a huge fireworks show! -

JR Shin Aomori Station is located in Aomori City and is primarily used to provide the Shinkansen Service to the Aomori City. The Tohoku Shinkansen line terminates here and the famous Hayabusa Shinkansen runs from Tokyo to Shin Aomori Station. In addition to the Shinkansen lines this station also services the JR lines.
As of 2014, plans are underway to extend the Shinkansen line to Hakodate and eventually to Sopporo under the name Hokkaido Shinkansen. The new line will use the famous Seikan Tunnel built under the Tsugaru Strait connecting the main Island of Honshu and the Hokkaido Island. Enjoy.

The Nebuta Matsuri is considered by many as Japan's top festival and I traveled 600 km north to the northern most city of Honshu to participate in the fun!
What makes Nebuta so amazing?
★ It could be the illuminated Nebuta floats that are pulled down on the city streets, turning and bowing to the crowd.
They're often in the form of mythological Japanese gods or dieties, larger than life in size.
★ Perhaps it's the taiko drums and flute players that make this festival no 1. The beat with those mystical flutes stays in your mind and body days after the festival has ended.
★ It could be the haneto dancers dressed in special yukata dancing and screaming Rasera! Rasera!
The answer is that they all when put together make this festival a must-see when you visit Japan in the summer.

Video footage from my train trip between Sendai (Miyagi prefecture) and Hakodate (in Hokkaido) via Aomori, in Japan, on the 31st of December, 2013 (New Year's Eve!). I have included some takes of Aomori and Hakodate, including the Hakodate cable and the Hakodate mount.
Trains:
1) Sendai - Shin Aomori: Hayabusa super express (shinkansen).
2) Shin Aomori - Aomori: Akebono limited express.
3) Aomori - Hakodate: Super Hakucho limited express.
I hope train / Japan / countryside lovers enjoy it as I did!
PS: note the Akebono limited express (the historic night train travelling from Tokyo to Aomori via Akita) and the stop at the Tappi-Kaitei undersea station in the Seikan tunnel. The PA system says: "the train will stop at the Tappi-Kaitei station, but the doors will not open". The station was sadly closed recently, in order to make room for the Hokkaido shinkansen.

Hey everyone! I found an old video I made when I first arrived in Japan. It's a tour of my Aomori-ken apartment that I never was able to post! The apartment was only 9,000 yen a month and very old with some interesting contraptions. I remember it was so creepy that I slept with the hall light on for a few weeks.
Also, about the bathtub, in the winter, the metal box would freeze up and I would have to dump hot water over it to take a shower...sucked.
I did this through the JET Program since some of you had asked. :)
