• ABOUT THE UDC: The Urban Dance Camp is the world's leading dance intensive education. The annual international workshop event has become after many years the best summer intensive for studio-styles (choreography) as well as streetdance-styles, with the highest standard of teaching and unique talents from around the world. The Urban Dance Camp presents every year an amazing line up with dance legends, youtube stars and top international choreographers from Asia, Europe and the USA. All of them proved their skills in the past years and become the best and most qualified educators for choreography-oriented participants.
The UDC 2016 offers you more than 170 classes over a period of 50 days. The workshops are ideal for dancers, teachers and choreographers with experiences. The level of the classes is for intermediate, advanced and professional dancers. The UDC is not for beginners, who never danced before. Age restriction: Participants have to be at least 16 years.
Enjoy 255 hours of workshops with up to 33 teachers and participants from USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Russia, China, Singapore and many more!

Urban Contemporary Jeep Music (1990) was an underground hit that gave the Funke Natives a favorable buzz throughout the New York Tri-State area in the early 90's. The group consisted of John Ice Boogie of Manhattan's Lower East Side and DJ SugarBear of Harlem, USA. When recording Urban, the Natives invited a local LES MC by the name of Maze One to guest star and spit a few bars giving props to the many All-Star rappers blowing up at that time. Though the group was short lived, Urban Contemporary Jeep Music caught the attention of VJ Ralph McDaniels of Video Music Box and DJ Red Alert who both gave "Urban" a considerable amount of airplay. It was through their exposure that the Funke Natives were able to perform with notable acts such as A Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian, 3rd Bass, and other known performers back then. Most recently, the Funke Natives had an Off-Broadway play created in their honor starring Du Kelly (better known as DoItAll from Lords of the Underground), playing the lead acting role as one of the Native members.

I've always wanted to remix gospel and hip hop. This was my opportunity. Using the Urban Contemporary Gospel sample CD, I was able to load the sounds in my mpc 500 and totally flip it from a gospel sound track to a gospel/hip hop soundtrack.

Urban contemporary is a music radio format. The term was coined by the late New York DJ Frankie Crocker in the mid 1970s. Urban contemporary radio stations feature a playlist made up entirely of hip hop/rap, R&B, pop, electronica such as dubstep and drum and bass (often with hip hop vocalists or rappers) and Caribbean music such as reggae, reggaeton, zouk, and sometimes Soca (In Toronto, London, New York City, Boston and Miami). Urban contemporary was developed through the characteristics of genres such as R&B and soul. Virtually all Urban contemporary formatted radio stations are located in cities that have sizeable African-American populations, such as New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Detroit, Cincinnati, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Memphis, New Orleans, Charlotte.
The term "urban contemporary" is heavily associated with African-American music, particularly for Contemporary R&B in African-American contexts. For the Latinos, the music is more Latin urban, such as Reggaeton, Latin hip hop, or bachata.

Urban Contemporary Jeep Music (1990) was an underground hit that gave the Funke Natives a favorable buzz throughout the New York Tri-State area in the early 90's. The group consisted of John Ice Boogie of Manhattan's Lower East Side and DJ SugarBear of Harlem, USA. When recording Urban, the Natives invited a local LES MC by the name of Maze One to guest star and spit a few bars giving props to the many All-Star rappers blowing up at that time. Though the group was short lived, Urban Contemporary Jeep Music caught the attention of VJ Ralph McDaniels of Video Music Box and DJ Red Alert who both gave "Urban" a considerable amount of airplay. Description :: In exploring ways to execute choreography, this class will integrate various dance techniques of modern, hip hop, West African, and capoeira. Here you will gain strength and conditioning through exploring floor work, weight shifts, inversions, and footwork. Come experience a strong sense of physicality, rhythmic flow, and release.

Biography :: Emily is an experienced performer, choreographer, and educator and is a prolific advocate for arts education in institutions of all kinds. After studying humanity from an anthropological perspective at UCLA and multiple community colleges, coupled with her 12 years of dance training and several years of community organizing, Emily moved her theoretical investigations and practical applications into the somatic experience of the body and its dynamic relationship to nature and space. Emily completed her BA in Performing Arts and Social Justice with an emphasis in Dance, at the University of San Francisco in May 2015. She is working as a teacher’s assistant for Professor Amie Dowling for the Performing Arts and Community Exchange (PACE) program at USF, a course that takes place in San Bruno’s Jail #5 between USF students and incarcerated men ages 18-40. Emily also currently works as a dance and gymnastics coach (pre-k through adult) at AcroSports in San Francisco, a non-profit center for gymnastics, acrobatics, circus arts, and dance, and aspires to gear towards women’s healing and the community at large. She was the Kathy A. Gallagher Award recipient for Performing Arts and Social Justice at USF, and also completed a one-year internship with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. From creating dances on landfills, rooftops, and in jails, her passion lies in the use of somatic education and performing arts as a creative outlet for finding balance, transformation, and personal agency; particularly with people in spaces that often feel voiceless, and or whose experiences largely go unnoticed. Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, Malynda grew up singing gospel music in a small church. She was later classically trained, receiving a degree in Vocal Performance from Azusa Pacific University. Post college, she toured the West Coast before taking her talents to New York City. Whether it's singing the National Anthem at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, performing at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay (opening for Tyrone Wells and Ernie Halter), or putting on a show at one of the many New York City venues, her voice can't hide the similarities she shares with India Arie, Heather Headley and greats like Whitney Houston.
