"Sagano Romantic Train" operated by Sagano Scenic Railway （嵯峨野観光鉄道） (wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Railways West). This ride from Saga Arashiyama （トロッコ嵯峨駅） to Kameoka （トロッコ亀岡駅） Town (further west of Arashiyama) is deemed as the most scenic ride in the entire Japan.
This track was once used as a backup to another JR line but since it was decommissioned as a regular train traffic, it has been revitalized as a scenic ride for the visitors to Arashiyama （嵐山）. The whole ride goes right next to Hozu River and consists of beautiful views of mountains, gorges, old bridges and of course the foliage.
The stations on this ride are called "Torokko （トロッコ）", which means Truck in Japanese because this track was once used by the mining trucks. So the ride goes from "Torokko Saga Station (トロッコ嵯峨駅）" to "Torokko Kameoka Station (トロッコ亀岡駅）" via the beautiful Hozu river gorge.
I took this video when I did the ride myself, but since it was crowded (during the fall foliage), there was a lot of pushing and jostling inside the train. I did my best to capture some parts of the ride but trust me, the views were definitely breathtaking.

KYOTO JAPAN 撮影：2013年11月22日 秋の京都観光・嵐山と嵯峨野周辺の紅葉の名所。付近には天龍寺、常寂光寺、宝篋院、祇王寺、宝厳院などの名所旧跡が多く、嵯峨野トロッコ列車でも紅葉が十分に楽しめる。嵐山は長さ154ｍ余りの渡月橋を手前において、その向こうに眺め、丹波高原の南に連なる小高い山々のひとつ 。標高は375ｍだが古くから紅葉の名所。 多くの和歌にも詠まれ、平安時代から親しまれてきた名勝でもある。北麓は大堰川の清流をへだてて紅葉で名高い小倉山に対している。11月の第2日曜には「嵐山もみじ祭り」が催され、大堰川に船を浮かべて、豪華絢爛な王朝絵巻も再現される。また山だけではなくこの付近一帯を嵐山と呼び、付近には天龍寺、常寂光寺、宝篋院、祇王寺、宝厳院、二尊院、野宮神社などの名所旧跡が多く、嵯峨野トロッコ列車でも紅葉が十分に楽しめる。
Autumn Leaves in Kyoto - Arashiyama, Sagano
The Sagano and Arashi-yama districts are located in the western part of
Kyoto City. This area features the Arashiyama, unquestionably the most popular
sightseeing spots in Kyoto. It attracts both Japanese and tourists from overseas
in droves.
The park area embraces several major sights, including Tenryu-ji Temple,
founded in 1339. The main temple of the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism,
Tenryu-ji is a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by tranquil Zen gardens
and bamboo forest.
Arashiyama is famous for its maple trees in the fall, and has been a scenic
spot since the Heian period.
It is especially wonderful when the maples color the area bright red.
Its view, which includes lush green mountains and rivers harmonized with the
Togetsu Bridge, is cherished by people across the country.

The Iwatayama Monkey Park on the slopes of Arashiyama. Over 170 monkeys live at the park. While the monkeys are wild, they have become accustomed to humans. The park is located on a small mountain not far from the Saga-Arashiyama rail station. Visitors can approach and photograph the monkeys. At the summit is a fenced enclosure, from within which visitors can feed the monkeys.
The "Moon Crossing Bridge" (渡月橋,Togetsukyō), notable for its views of cherry blossoms and autumn colors on the slopes of Arashiyama. See below.

Sagano Romantic Train (嵯峨野観光鉄道） in Arashiyama, Kyoto Prefecture
"Sagano Romantic Train" operated by Sagano Scenic Railway （嵯峨野観光鉄道） (wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Railways West). This ride from Saga Arashiyama （トロッコ嵯峨駅） to Kameoka （トロッコ亀岡駅） Town (further west of Arashiyama) is deemed as the most scenic ride in the entire Japan. This track was once used as a backup to another JR line but since it was decommissioned as a regular train traffic, it has been revitalized as a scenic ride for the visitors to Arashiyama （嵐山）. KYOTO JAPAN 撮影：2013年11月22日 秋の京都観光・嵐山と嵯峨野周辺の紅葉の名所。付近には天龍寺、常寂光寺、宝篋院、祇王寺、宝厳院などの名所旧跡が多く、嵯峨野トロッコ列車でも紅葉が十分に楽しめる。嵐山は長さ154ｍ余りの渡月橋を手前において、その向こうに眺め、丹波高原の南に連なる小高い山々のひとつ 。標高は375ｍだが古くから紅葉の名所。 多くの和歌にも詠まれ、平安時代から親しまれてきた名勝でもある。北麓は大堰川の清流をへだてて紅葉で名高い小倉山に対している。11月の第2日曜には「嵐山もみじ祭り」が催され、大堰川に船を浮かべて、豪華絢爛な王朝絵巻も再現される。また山だけではなくこの付近一帯を嵐山と呼び、付近には天龍寺、常寂光寺、宝篋院、祇王寺、宝厳院、二尊院、野宮神社などの名所旧跡が多く、嵯峨野トロッコ列車でも紅葉が十分に楽しめる。
Autumn Leaves in Kyoto - Arashiyama, Sagano
The Sagano and Arashi-yama districts are located in the western part of
Kyoto City. This area features the Arashiyama, unquestionably the most popular
sightseeing spots in Kyoto. It attracts both Japanese and tourists from overseas
in droves.
The park area embraces several major sights, including Tenryu-ji Temple,
founded in 1339. The main temple of the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism,
Tenryu-ji is a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by tranquil Zen gardens
and bamboo forest.
Arashiyama is famous for its maple trees in the fall, and has been a scenic
spot since the Heian period.
It is especially wonderful when the maples color the area bright red.
Its view, which includes lush green mountains and rivers harmonized with the
Togetsu Bridge, is cherished by people across the country.

Arashiyama (嵐山 Storm Mountain) is a district on the western outskirts of Kyoto, Japan. It also refers to the mountain across the Ōi River, which forms a backdrop to the district. Arashiyama is a nationally designated Historic Site and Place of Scenic Beauty.
Notable tourist sites[edit]
The Iwatayama Monkey Park on the slopes of Arashiyama. Over 170 monkeys live at the park. While the monkeys are wild, they have become accustomed to humans. The park is on a small mountain not far from the Saga-Arashiyama rail station. Visitors can approach and photograph the monkeys. At the summit is a fenced enclosure where visitors can feed the monkeys.
The "Moon Crossing Bridge" (渡月橋, Togetsukyō), notable for its views of cherry blossoms and autumn colors on the slopes of Arashiyama.
The tombstone of the Heike courtesan Kogo of Sagano.
Tenryū-ji, the main temple of one of the 15 branches of the Rinzai school, one of the two main sects of Zen Buddhism in Japan.
The hamlet of Kiyotaki, a small scenic village at the base of Mt. Atago, the home to a notable Shinto shrine.
Matsunoo-taisha, a shrine half a mile south of the area, is home to a blessed spring. It is one of the oldest shrines in the Kyoto area, founded in 700. The alleged restorative properties of the spring bring many local sake and miso companies for prayers that their product will be blessed.
Kameyama koen has a stone commemorating Zhou Enlai's visit to Arashiyama. He was moved by the cherry blossoms and mountain greenery. The four poems he wrote about his visit are engraved on a stone monument: "Arashiyama in the Rain."
Ōkōchi Sansō, the Japanese-style home and gardens of the film actor Denjirō Ōkōchi.
