(Airport Tour #3)
Here's a brief three-minute tour of Philadelphia International Airport. You'll definitely see the presence of U.S. Airways, which has Philadelphia as its third-largest hub. (Presumably it would remain a hub after U.S. Airways and American Airlines merge.) I honestly didn't think videos like this would be pretty popular, but people seemed to enjoy my Dulles and Denver airport vids, so I thought I would put this up also. Hopefully I'll also upload video of Washington National Airport and Burlington International Airport soon, which I've traveled through quite a lot.
This video follows the long and complex ramps between Interstate 95 and the main terminals of Philadelphia International Airport in South Philadelphia.

After a 10 1/2 hour flight from Athens International Airport, I was finally able to record the final approach on PHL. In my opinion, this video provides a great view of Philadelphia and a few of its notable areas such as the Naval Shipyard and the Sports Complex. I hope you enjoy!

This video covers only one part of a nearly eight hour visit to Philadelphia International Airport, with traffic utilizing the 9s and 8 and 35. Departures from 9L are featured here, with video shot between 8:55 AM and 11:55 AM.
The goal of this trip was to film an hour or so of video and then photograph the rest of the day, and that was accomplished easily. With winds forecasted out of the NE, PHL was utilizing east operations, and it is rare to have easterly winds of any kind AND have clear skies, so this was a real treat. This video doesn't have too many specials in it (the America West retro was in and out of PHL, and departed in the time frame the video was shot, but I was after photos of that jet as I've gotten video of it many times in the past) but there are three noteworthy catches.

This video covers a nearly eight hour visit to Philadelphia International Airport, with traffic utilizing the 27s and 26 and 35. Departures from 27L and arrivals to 27R are featured here, with video shot between 7:55 AM and 11:48 AM.
Normally I would not venture out to PHL early, but the day after New Year's Day 2016 was clearly an exception, as Qatar Airways had previously announced they would fly the Airbus A350-900XWB daily on flight 727/728 beginning on January 1, and this would be the second day of revenue passenger flight to North America utilizing the A350, which is Airbus' response to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
In addition to the A350, there are some other aircraft that made an appearance at PHL that were quite special and you will get a chance to see them in this video.

Philadelphia International Airport (IATA: PHL, ICAO: KPHL, FAA LID: PHL) is a major airport in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, and is the largest airport in the Delaware Valley region and in the state. The airport is the third largest hub and the primary international hub of US Airways and has service to destinations in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. Most of the airport property is located in Philadelphia. The international terminal and the western end of the airfield are located in Tinicum Township, Delaware County.
Starting in 1925, the Pennsylvania National Guard used the PHL site (historically known as Hog Island) as a training airfield. The site was dedicated as the "Philadelphia Municipal Airport" by Charles Lindbergh in 1927, but it had no proper terminal building until 1940; airlines used the airfield (at 39°55′48″N 75°04′41″W / 39.930°N 75.078°W / 39.930; -75.078) in nearby Camden, New Jersey. Once Philadelphia's terminal was completed (on the east side of the field) American, Eastern, TWA and United began flights.

Philadelphia (

Here's a brief three-minute tour of Philadelphia International Airport. You'll definitely see the presence of U.S. Airways, which has Philadelphia as its third-largest hub. (Presumably it would remain a hub after U.S. Airways and American Airlines merge.) I honestly didn't think videos like this would be pretty popular, but people seemed to enjoy my Dulles and Denver airport vids, so I thought I would put this up also. Hopefully I'll also upload video of Washington National Airport and Burlington International Airport soon, which I've traveled through quite a lot.

This video covers only one part of a nearly eight hour visit to Philadelphia International Airport, with traffic utilizing the 9s and 8 and 35. Departures from 9L are featured here, with video shot between 8:55 AM and 11:55 AM.

Normally I would not venture out to PHL early, but the day after New Year's Day 2016 was clearly an exception, as Qatar Airways had previously announced they would fly the Airbus A350-900XWB daily on flight 727/728 beginning on January 1, and this would be the second day of revenue passenger flight to North America utilizing the A350, which is Airbus' response to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
In addition to the A350, there are some other aircraft that made an appearance at PHL that were quite special and you will get a chance to see them in this video.

At the time of its release, Jonathan Demme's Philadelphia was the first big-budget Hollywood film to tackle the medical, political, and social issues of AIDS. Tom Hanks, in his first Academy Award-winning performance, plays Andrew Beckett, a talented lawyer at a stodgy Philadelphia law firm. The homosexual Andrew has contracted AIDS but fears informing his firm about the disease. The firm's senior partner, Charles Wheeler (Jason Robards), assigns Andrew a case involving their most important client. Andrew begins diligently working on the case, but soon the lesions associated with AIDS are visible on his face. Wheeler abruptly removes Andrew from the case and fires him from the firm. Andrew believes he has been fired because of his illness and plans to fight the firm in court. But because of the firm's reputation, no lawyer in Philadelphia will risk handling his case. In desperation, Andrew hires Joe Miller (Denzel Washington), a black lawyer who advertises on television, mainly handling personal injury cases. Miller dislikes homosexuals but agrees to take the case for the money and exposure. As Miller prepares for the courtroom battle against one of the law firm's key litigators, Belinda Conine (Mary Steenburgen), Miller begins to realize the discrimination practiced against Andrew is no different from the discrimination Miller himself has to battle against. With Hanks, who is always watchable, and Washington, who has also got a very good track record, this film was destined to be fantastic but not even I, who always has an optimistic view when it comes to movies, was ready for the impact that this film made. Tom Hanks excelled even himself with his performance as an AIDS striken homosexual who is fired from his job simply because of his condition. It is Hanks, by himself, who makes the whole scenario in the film believable. Although this is Hanks's best performance of his career, he is very closely followed by Denzel Washington who gives a perfect performance as the only lawyer who will take on the case although he is a homophobe himself. The emotional strain of the film on the audience is immense and in the later stages of the film it is almost impossible to watch because of that. The make-up which gives the impression that Hanks really does have the terrible disease is perfect and the simple yet striking direction from Jonathan Demme(The Silence Of The Lambs) make this utterly compelling viewing although at times it is very uncomfortable. All praise to everyone in the making of this beautiful film.
