Dramatic Body camera video shows I-75 officer-involved shooting
CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said a Glendale police officer will not face charges after shooting a knife-wielding man on Interstate 75 last week.
Body camera video shows the March 29 confrontation between Officer Josh Hilling and Pablo Javier Aleman - a wanted suspect in a Baltimore murder investigation.
“Officer Joshua Hilling is one brave individual and you’re going to see it for yourself,” Deters said before releasing the body cam footage on Tuesday.
Hilling, 31, fired one gunshot after Aleman, 46, drew a knife on the officer on the side of I-75 near Sharon Road. The suspect was shot in the abdomen and continued to walk around the roadway with the knife in his hand.
The prosecutor praised Hilling for using “remarkable restraint” as Aleman advanced toward officers while yelling "Kill me, kill me."
Police eventually deployed a taser and apprehended Aleman.
It's not clear why Aleman was walking on the side of the interstate, but he initially told the officer he had just left Dayton and was looking for a taxi.
Hilling tried to pat down Aleman before the suspect pulled out the fixed-blade knife. Deters said Hilling was following standard procedure by searching any subjects before they enter a police cruiser.
Aleman underwent surgery at University of Cincinnati Medical Center and remains in the hospital.
He is charged with attempted murder in Hamilton County, which could get him 11 years in prison, Deters said.
Several hours after the shooting, investigators discovered Aleman was wanted in connection with the March 17 stabbing death of his roommate.
“There’s a high probability that that was the murder weapon used against his roommate in Baltimore," Deters said of the knife brandished on I-75.
A Hamilton County grand jury will hear the case before Aleman can be extradited back to Maryland.

This is my red, white and blue Superbird back when it was a stock Alpine White Superbird. A group of us were on our way from Detroit, Michigan to Columbus, Ohio for a Mopar show in September of 1985. We all had C.B. radios and I lined up against a buddy of mine in a 1972 Cuda. The footage was shot from another Superbird behind me. The "three count" was given over the C.B. radio.

Interstate 75 (I-75) is a major north–south Interstate Highway in the Great Lakes and Southeastern regions of the United States. It travels from State Road 826 (Palmetto Expressway) and State Road 924 (Gratigny Parkway) in Hialeah, Florida (northwest of Miami) to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, at the Ontario border. Interstate 75 passes through six different states: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan.
Due to traffic levels on the Interstate, much of the route is six lanes even in rural areas. The longest continuous segment of six-lane (or more) roadway in the U.S. is along I-75 from the Florida's Turnpike junction in Wildwood, Florida to I-24 in the Chattanooga area, using I-475 to bypass Macon, Georgia, though this long stretch has an exception to its 3 lanes or more continuity around the I-75/I-475 split where it is 2 lanes on each side for only a few miles.

Alternatives To New I-75, I-24 Interchange Coming
By Jerry Askin Drivers' commute to and from Bradley county could be a little quicker in the future. The Tennessee Department of Transportation may soon approve a new four-lane highway from Interstate 75 in Ringgold straight up through the Hamilton/Bradley County line. TDOT has a 25-year long range vision to improve Tenneessee's highways and make it safer for drivers. If you ask any driver who comes through Ringgold and Chattanooga, that'll more than likely be in support of any bypass to make their trip a little shorter. "It'll be a good thing to get rid of all the traffic in the morning, morning rush hour traffic." CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said a Glendale police officer will not face charges after shooting a knife-wielding man on Interstate 75 last week.
Body camera video shows the March 29 confrontation between Officer Josh Hilling and Pablo Javier Aleman - a wanted suspect in a Baltimore murder investigation.
“Officer Joshua Hilling is one brave individual and you’re going to see it for yourself,” Deters said before releasing the body cam footage on Tuesday.
Hilling, 31, fired one gunshot after Aleman, 46, drew a knife on the officer on the side of I-75 near Sharon Road. The suspect was shot in the abdomen and continued to walk around the roadway with the knife in his hand.
The prosecutor praised Hilling for using “remarkable restraint” as Aleman advanced toward officers while yelling "Kill me, kill me."
Police eventually deployed a taser and apprehended Aleman.
It's not clear why Aleman was walking on the side of the interstate, but he initially told the officer he had just left Dayton and was looking for a taxi.
Hilling tried to pat down Aleman before the suspect pulled out the fixed-blade knife. Deters said Hilling was following standard procedure by searching any subjects before they enter a police cruiser.
Aleman underwent surgery at University of Cincinnati Medical Center and remains in the hospital.
He is charged with attempted murder in Hamilton County, which could get him 11 years in prison, Deters said.
Several hours after the shooting, investigators discovered Aleman was wanted in connection with the March 17 stabbing death of his roommate.
“There’s a high probability that that was the murder weapon used against his roommate in Baltimore," Deters said of the knife brandished on I-75.
A Hamilton County grand jury will hear the case before Aleman can be extradited back to Maryland.

Drivers' commute to and from Bradley county could be a little quicker in the future.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation may soon approve a new four-lane highway from Interstate 75 in Ringgold straight up through the Hamilton/Bradley County line.
TDOT has a 25-year long range vision to improve Tenneessee's highways and make it safer for drivers.
If you ask any driver who comes through Ringgold and Chattanooga, that'll more than likely be in support of any bypass to make their trip a little shorter.
"It'll be a good thing to get rid of all the traffic in the morning, morning rush hour traffic."
The Tennessee and Georgia Department of Transportations want to work together to build what they'll likely call Chattanooga Parkway.
It'll be a four lane highway, sort of like a bypass, that'll run directly from Interstate 75 in Ringgold to the Hamilton/Bradley County line. It's not clear now how many miles the bypass will run or how much it'll cost, but if approved, it'll be complete by 2029.
"I think that should be a priority. I know it's going to be expensive, but it should be a priority," says Linda Aulbaach.
Drivers like Joe Y'barra support the bypass, because he says it'll bring more jobs.
"I drive a dump truck and anytime the dirt needs to come out that they're digging out or new dirt or new gravels needs to come in so I would benefit from that a hundred percent," says Y'barra.
TDOT's 2010 corridor plan showed a major concern for improvements near the I75 24 split. It's an area many drivers agree needs work.
TDOT also plans to reconstruct the Inserstate 75/24 interchange and widen I-75 from 6 lanes to 8 lanes from the Georgia State line to Ringgold Road. It's apart of TDOT's $100 million plus project to improve interstate 75.
The project planners will meet on Wednesday at 2:30 with the Regional Planning Agency.
