The first thing you might notice about this video is the change in surroundings: NPR recently moved to a new building, and though we worked to make the Tiny Desk as visually similar as possible to the old space — a process we recently documented with the help of OK Go — the ceilings are higher, the square footage more generous and the surfaces lavishly unsullied. The visuals will surely evolve in the months and years to come, as more tchotchkes and coffee stains accumulate on, around and behind Bob Boilen's desk.
In the days leading up to this hotly anticipated performance by The National — recorded at the obscenely early time (for touring bands anyway) of 10:30 in the morning — we'd gotten word that the group would strip its sound way down for the occasion, sticking to two acoustic guitars and a bit of hand percussion. What we got instead was a fully fleshed-out septet, complete with horns and piano; the band showed up at 9:30 to rehearse and sound-check.
Though singer Matt Berninger had barely rested his voice from a show in the area the night before, The National dutifully performed gorgeous acoustic renditions of four tracks from its fine new album, Trouble Will Find Me. Its members even treated the hundreds of worshipful gawkers to Building 2.0's first-ever Tiny Desk encore, in response to a roar of applause that could be heard in the far reaches of the newsroom downstairs. Here's to many more.

The National is an indie rock band formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1999 and currently based in Brooklyn, New York. The band's lyrics, which have been described as "dark, melancholy and difficult to interpret", are written and sung by Matt Berninger, a baritone. The rest of the band is composed of two pairs of brothers: twins Aaron (guitar and keyboard) and Bryce Dessner (guitar) and Scott (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). The National has been compared to Joy Division, Leonard Cohen, Wilco and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. The name of the band was chosen because it "didn't mean anything" and was "benign and meaningless".
In 1991, Matt Berninger and Scott Devendorf met while attending the University of Cincinnati, where they also met Mike Brewer, Casey Reas and Jeff Salem. Together, the five of them formed the lo-fi garage band Nancy, named after Berninger's mother, aspiring to sound like Pavement. The band was together for five years, but only released one album, Ruther 3429, on Wife Records before breaking up after Berninger, Devendorf, Reas and Salem moved to Brooklyn.

The first thing you might notice about this video is the change in surroundings: NPR recently moved to a new building, and though we worked to make the Tiny Desk as visually similar as possible to the old space — a process we recently documented with the help of OK Go — the ceilings are higher, the square footage more generous and the surfaces lavishly unsullied. The visuals will surely evolve in the months and years to come, as more tchotchkes and coffee stains accumulate on, around and behind Bob Boilen's desk. The first thing you might notice about this video is the change in surroundings: NPR recently moved to a new building, and though we worked to make the Tiny Desk as visually similar as possible to the old space — a process we recently documented with the help of OK Go — the ceilings are higher, the square footage more generous and the surfaces lavishly unsullied. The visuals will surely evolve in the months and years to come, as more tchotchkes and coffee stains accumulate on, around and behind Bob Boilen's desk.
In the days leading up to this hotly anticipated performance by The National — recorded at the obscenely early time (for touring bands anyway) of 10:30 in the morning — we'd gotten word that the group would strip its sound way down for the occasion, sticking to two acoustic guitars and a bit of hand percussion. What we got instead was a fully fleshed-out septet, complete with horns and piano; the band showed up at 9:30 to rehearse and sound-check.
Though singer Matt Berninger had barely rested his voice from a show in the area the night before, The National dutifully performed gorgeous acoustic renditions of four tracks from its fine new album, Trouble Will Find Me. Its members even treated the hundreds of worshipful gawkers to Building 2.0's first-ever Tiny Desk encore, in response to a roar of applause that could be heard in the far reaches of the newsroom downstairs. Here's to many more.

The Aeolians Sing "National Anthem" in honor of Fallen SWAT Officer Steven Smith
This video does not do any justice to what we witnessed on April 16th, 2016. Under the leadership of Pastor John T. Boston of the Central Seventh-day Adventist Church also a chaplain for the Columbus Police Department. The Aeolians of Oakwood University ministered at a homeless shelter and then at a local police precinct near our church. The choir was visiting from Huntsville, Alabama and was scheduled to go into a local womens prison to do a LIVE concert for nearly 2000 women. However, plans didn't go through as planned. This just so happened to be the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventsits day of "Compassion & Hope". This video does not do any justice to what we witnessed on April 16th, 2016. Under the leadership of Pastor John T. Boston of the Central Seventh-day Adventist Church also a chaplain for the Columbus Police Department. The Aeolians of Oakwood University ministered at a homeless shelter and then at a local police precinct near our church. The choir was visiting from Huntsville, Alabama and was scheduled to go into a local womens prison to do a LIVE concert for nearly 2000 women. However, plans didn't go through as planned.
This just so happened to be the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventsits day of "Compassion & Hope". Because compassion has no limits, we walked the choir to the precinct to minister since Columbus just experienced a tragic loss. Earlier in the week, SWAT officer Steven Smith was fatally shot while on duty. You can only imagine the grief that this community is experiencing... When The Aeolians director, Dr. Ferdinand started conducting the choir and the National Anthem started, the officers were bought to tears. After they finished singing, these young people all surrounded the officers and began hugging them and shaking their hands. #ColumbusCentral #DayOfHope#CompassionM10

Animals of the National Zoo, Washington DC
The pictures are shown in the general order that they were taken during our families trip to the National Zoo. I couldn't help taking video and pictures of everything. It was all so amazing! I made most every clip a reasonable length, so you wouldn't get board and so I would be able to show all of the animals that I saw. I think this video came out pretty good. All the animals are so cute! And amazing! Hope you think so too! And I didn't think any music would be necessary, I thought the background noise would be enough. I took all of this a few months ago, and only now remembered to put it together! :) -

The pictures are shown in the general order that they were taken during our families trip to the National Zoo. I couldn't help taking video and pictures of everything. It was all so amazing! I made most every clip a reasonable length, so you wouldn't get board and so I would be able to show all of the animals that I saw. I think this video came out pretty good. All the animals are so cute! And amazing! Hope you think so too!
And I didn't think any music would be necessary, I thought the background noise would be enough.
I took all of this a few months ago, and only now remembered to put it together! :)
