Charles "Lucky" Luciano (pronounced /luːtʃiˈɑːnoʊ/; born Salvatore Lucania November 24, 1897 – January 26, 1962), was an Italian mobster in the United States. Luciano is considered the father of modern organized crime in the United States for the establishment of the first Commission. He was for many years the boss of the modern Genovese crime family. He was, along with his associate Meyer Lansky, instrumental in the development of the National Crime Syndicate in the United States.
Luciano was tried and successfully convicted for compulsory prostitution in 1936 after years of investigation by District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey. Luciano was given a thirty-year prison sentence, but was allowed to live his life freely outside of the United States when he struck a deal with the government during World War II while still imprisoned.
Salvatore Lucania was born on November 24, 1897 in Lercara Friddi, Sicily. Luciano's parents, Antonio and Rosalia Lucania, had four other children: Bartolomeo (born 1890), Giuseppe (born 1898), Filippa (born 1901), and Concetta. Luciano's father worked in a sulfur mine in Sicily. In 1907, when Luciano was nine years old, the family immigrated to the United States. They settled in New York City in the borough of Manhattan on its Lower East Side, a popular destination for Italian immigrants. At age 14, Luciano dropped out of school and started a job delivering hats, earning $7 per week. However, after winning $244 in a dice game, Luciano quit his job and went to earning money on the street. That same year, Luciano's parents sent him to the Brooklyn Truant School.
Luciano is an Italian, Spanish and Portuguese given name and surname.

The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Plot: Three real-life heroes, who battled organized crime between the two world wars, are the subject of this three-part documentary, complete with interviews and reenactments. Part one looks at Eliot Ness, the incorruptible Prohibition agent who worked to bring down Al Capone but remained obscure until Ness's memoir became the basis for a popular TV series, which inflated his role in bringing down the Chicago mobster. Part two examines Melvin Purvis, the FBI agent whose tireless efforts to capture John Dillinger ended in front of the Biograph theater in Chicago. Acclaim for Purvis faded as the jealous J. Edgar Hoover did what he could to erase the agent from public memory. Part three chronicles the career of Thomas Dewey, best known now as the Presidential candidate who lost to the dark horse, Harry Truman. But Dewey's great accomplishment was as the New York district attorney who brought down the Sicilian mobster, Lucky Luciano, by successfully prosecuting him for heading a prostitution racket. Whether Luciano really ran that racket is another story.

Boardwalk Empire season 5 episode 1. Charles ''Lucky'' Luciano orchestrates a hit on Joe The Boss to end the Castellammarese War between Masseria and Maranzano. One of the hitmen seems to be Ben ''Bugsy'' Siegel who allegedly was one of the hitmen that whacked Joe Masseria in real life. All rights reserved to HBO.
Lucky has been labelled as the founding father of organized crime, and we are about to tell you why he has been given the title of October's mobster of the month.

Season 5 Episode 4 Al Capone being friendly with Lucky Luciano. But not after Lucky leaves.
Season 1 Episode 6. Nucky Thompson smacks Lucky Luciano. Possible anachronism - Luciano most likely didn't have the nickname ''Lucky'', since he probably got it in 1929 after being stabbed, beaten, scarred and left for dead by Maranzano's men. After surviving that, he got called Lucky. Uploaded due to a request.

"The Gambino Crime Family is one of the most recognizable criminal organizations in America. The family originated in the early 1900's under the leadership of Salvatore D'Aquila. They became one of New York's "Five Families" and participated in "The Commission," the governing board for organized crime families established by Charlie "Lucky" Luciano. Salvatore D'Aquila was murdered in 1928 and control of the family went to Frank Scalise. Scalise only stayed in power for three years, but the next crime boss, Vincent Mangano ruled for two decades and helped to better establish the family as one of the biggest criminal organizations in the world. By 1951, Albert Anastasia had taken control, and he was best known for overseeing an organization called Murder Incorporated, which performed hundre...

Die Geschichte der amerikanischen Mafia ist die Geschichte von Messerstechereien, Mord, Erpressung, Glücksspiel, Drogenhandel, Alkohol- und Waffenschmuggel. Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts entstanden überall in den großen Städten Mafia-Gangs. Namen wie Al Capone, Lucky Luciano oder Joe Colombo stehen dafür. Allein in New York beherrschten fünf Familien das organisierte Verbrechen. Erst nach und nach kam das FBI den Mafia-Bossen auf die Spur, mit Spezialeinheiten und modernen Überwachungsmethoden. In der Dokumentationsreihe werden erstmals die Geheimakten des FBI geöffnet.
