Completely overhauled and redesigned for 2011, the all-new Kia Sorento boasts a fresh look and some cool new features. Host Emme Hall spent a week in the SUV and was thoroughly impressed. Previously based on a truck's frame, the 2011 has been turned into a more reliable unibody frame, and the Sorento is all the better for it. The engine is improved as well--our tester came with a 3.5L V6 engine with 276 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque, as well as the drivetrain changing from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive. Gas mileage is roughly 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Inside, the Sorento has room to spare. With a new third row of seats, you can fit up to 7 passengers inside this modestly-sized crossover. With the seats down, your cargo space is enormous and well-suited to haul whatever your junk might be. The interior, in addition, is improved. Amenities are bountiful, you have Bluetooth/wireless integration, iPod connectivity, dual-zone climate control, a whole slew of audio and satellite radio options. The seats are a little on the plain side, but match well with its no-nonsense exterior. Plus, the two-row sunroof is a great and much-appreciated addition. And, all things considered, the list of safety options on the Sorento is staggering, with an onslaught of airbags and electronic safety features that will surely make for a safe ride for you and your family. The 2.0-litre and 2.2-litre diesel engines are both relatively refined and offer good fuel economy and pace. Buyers shouldn't worry about reliability either, with all Kias covered by a seven-year warranty. On the road, the Sorento is comfortable enough to make long motorway journeys pass by quickly and feels planted in the corners but it struggles to deliver any sort of driving thrills.

This commercial is too funny I cant see it enough. The Kia Sorento is a midsize SUV available in base, LX and EX trim levels. A 3.3-liter V6 powers the first two, and it produces 242 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque. The EX gets a 3.8-liter V6 good for 262 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, while rear-wheel or four-wheel drive (with low-range gearing) is offered. The base trim includes air-conditioning, full power accessories, a CD/MP3 audio system, multiple power points and 60/40-split flip-and-fold rear seats. The LX adds keyless entry and cruise control, while the EX ups the ante with an upgraded cabin, the bigger V6 engine and a power driver seat. All models have side curtain airbags, antilock disc brakes and stability control. LX Sport Package models feature upgraded interior cloth or leather, special exterior trim and 17-inch wheels and tires. The EX trim line comes with a sunroof, heated power mirrors, foglights, a power driver seat, a trip computer and 16-inch alloy wheels. The top-line EX Luxury Package adds leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control and heated front seats. While the models cabin may have once been sleek and stylish, it is showing shades of gray at the temples in terms of design. However, it still boasts an abundance of storage space. As a crossover, the Sorento ditches the outgoing model's truck-based and stiffly sprung ladder frame in favor of a much more rigid, more compliant unibody. The chassis is shared with the Hyundai Santa Fe and has a strut-type suspension in front and a multilink design at the back. In place of the outgoing model's wheezy 3.3- and 3.8-liter V-6s are a miserly 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a gutsy 3.5-liter V-6. All transmissions—a manual for base four-bangers and autos for the rest—have six forward speeds. Front-wheel drive replaces rear-wheel drive as the base drivetrain offering, and the optional four-wheel-drive system now employs an electronic locking differential. Seven-passenger seating is newly available, whereas the previous model's max headcount was five. In other words, the Sorento is no longer an inexpensive but less-than-ideally packaged relic but rather is closer to the sort of SUV that young, family-driven customers are looking for. All told, Kia has created a comfortable and quiet crossover out of the Sorento. Although pricing has not yet been announced, Kia tells us the Sorento should start a bit under $20000 and top $30000, but probably not by much, with an average transaction price in the low-to-mid-20s. We think that's a sound deal for a vehicle that is decent-looking and competitively equipped and seems well screwed together. Believe it or not the Sorento comes with 3 different engine choices. The first is a 3.5 liter V-6 that produces a healthy 276 horsepower and 248 lb-ft. of torque. Being the largest engine of the bunch the fuel economy is not as good at 20 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. Those are still respectable numbers. Then there is a basic middle man 2.0 liter engine that comes equipped on the base model vehicle. But the real gem is the all new GDI series of engine from Kia. This 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine features and direct injection to not only get better fuel economy but it also produces less emissions. Gas Mileage ratings are 22 MPG in the city and a whopping 32 MPG on the highway. The power on this engine is also excellent at 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft. of torque. The base price for the 2012 Kia Sorento is $21250 with the fully loaded V-6 model going for $34850. But opt for the GDI powered front wheel drive and you will spend about $25000. The crossover comes with keyless entry and push button start which is the future of motoring along with buttons on the steering wheel and more.
