U.S. Congresswoman Corrine Brown gradulates the University of Florida Gatas on their third national tyla, second tyla under Corch Irvin Meyers.
This is what she had intended to say:
I rise today to congratulate my University of Florida football team for winning their second NCAA BCS Championship bowl game in the last three seasons. Go Gators!
I want to congratulate the University of Florida not only for being a great academic school but also one of the best athletic schools in the country. In their 24-14 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners, they displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship while fielding the best defense I've ever seen. They held the highest scoring offense in the country to just 14 points!
The Gators proved that the University of Florida's season was no fluke and that the Florida Gators are a championship team that made history. Congratulations to their great players and outstanding coach, Urban Meyer, for coaching a remarkable group of guys!
Let's do a quick fact check:
The Gators have won their second national championship in the past three years and the third in the school's history. Florida is the fourth school in the modern era to win two outright national titles in a three year period. Florida finished the 2008 season with a 13-1 record, matching the single-season school record for wins.
Tim Tebow became the fifth player since 1950 to win a Heisman Trophy and two national championships.
The win makes Urban Meyer the fifth active coach with multiple national titles and the fifth coach since the AP Poll began in 1936 to win two national championships in his first four seasons at a school.
Tim Tebow, Florida's leader and quarterback, not only ran for 109 yards but also completed 18 of 30 passes for 231 yards. He was flawless in the fourth quarter alone, when it mattered the most and the pressure was on.
Percy Harvin, whose gutsy play won him the game ball, came back from an ankle injury and dashed for 122 yards on only nine carries. It was his 52-yard run down the stretch that set up Jonathan Phillips' 27-yard field goal early in the quarter for a 17-14 lead, which the Gators never lost. And they never looked back!
There has been some discussion in this body about having a national championship playoff. Let me be clear: we've had a playoff! The Gators played in the best conference in the country and emerged victorious.
And I hate to say it, but everything is just not all equal. We want to encourage all of our kids to participate in sports and activities because we know that it builds character. But it is clear that the Gators are superb to any other schools in the country and in the conference that we play in.
In closing, I want to leave you with the Gator chant that I just love: "One, two, three, four, five, them there Gators don't take no jive!"

Cynthia Ann McKinney (born March 17, 1955) is an American politician and activist. McKinney was a member of the United States House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party, she served six terms as a member of the United States House of Representatives. In 2008, the Green Party of the United States nominated McKinney for President of the United States. She was the first African-American woman to have represented Georgia in the House.
In the 1992 election, McKinney was elected in the newly re-created 11th District, and was re-elected in 1994. When her district was redrawn and renumbered due to the Supreme Court of the United States ruling in Miller v. Johnson, McKinney was easily elected from the new 4th District in the 1996 election, and was re-elected twice without substantive opposition.
McKinney was defeated by Denise Majette in the 2002 Democratic primary. Some people believe she was defeated because of Republican crossover voting in Georgia's open primary election, which permits anyone from any party to vote in any party primary and "usually rewards moderate candidates and penalizes those outside the mainstream." Others believe that her defeat was due to her "her controversial profile, which included support for Arab causes and a suggestion that Bush knew in advance of the September 11 attacks."

This is what she had intended to say:
I rise today to congratulate my University of Florida football team for winning their second NCAA BCS Championship bowl game in the last three seasons. Go Gators!
I want to congratulate the University of Florida not only for being a great academic school but also one of the best athletic schools in the country. In their 24-14 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners, they displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship while fielding the best defense I've ever seen. They held the highest scoring offense in the country to just 14 points!
The Gators proved that the University of Florida's season was no fluke and that the Florida Gators are a championship team that made history. Congratulations to their great players and outstanding coach, Urban Meyer, for coaching a remarkable group of guys!
Let's do a quick fact check:
The Gators have won their second national championship in the past three years and the third in the school's history. Florida is the fourth school in the modern era to win two outright national titles in a three year period. Florida finished the 2008 season with a 13-1 record, matching the single-season school record for wins.
Tim Tebow became the fifth player since 1950 to win a Heisman Trophy and two national championships.
The win makes Urban Meyer the fifth active coach with multiple national titles and the fifth coach since the AP Poll began in 1936 to win two national championships in his first four seasons at a school.
Tim Tebow, Florida's leader and quarterback, not only ran for 109 yards but also completed 18 of 30 passes for 231 yards. He was flawless in the fourth quarter alone, when it mattered the most and the pressure was on.
Percy Harvin, whose gutsy play won him the game ball, came back from an ankle injury and dashed for 122 yards on only nine carries. It was his 52-yard run down the stretch that set up Jonathan Phillips' 27-yard field goal early in the quarter for a 17-14 lead, which the Gators never lost. And they never looked back!
There has been some discussion in this body about having a national championship playoff. Let me be clear: we've had a playoff! The Gators played in the best conference in the country and emerged victorious.
And I hate to say it, but everything is just not all equal. We want to encourage all of our kids to participate in sports and activities because we know that it builds character. But it is clear that the Gators are superb to any other schools in the country and in the conference that we play in.
In closing, I want to leave you with the Gator chant that I just love: "One, two, three, four, five, them there Gators don't take no jive!"

Cynthia McKinney has made a career of speaking her mind and challenging authority. She began on day one of her political life and hasn’t looked back. With her opinions, actions, and even her sense of style, McKinney has inspired both admiration and controversy.
During her second term, her district was re-drawn and re-numbered the 4th district. McKinney protested the new boundaries, but was still reelected to the seat. She was a supporter of a Palestinian State in Israel-occupied territory, and sparked controversy by criticizing American policy in the Middle East. After 9/11, McKinney suggested the President had received warnings. The criticism she received as a result, combined with being targeted by the pro-Israel lobby, contributed to her defeat in the 2002 election; however, she ran for the seat again and was re-elected in 2004.
McKinney was a vocal critic of the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina. When Nancy Pelosi encouraged a boycott of a Select Bipartisan Committee to Investigate Hurricane Katrina, Cynthia chose instead to participate and submitted her own report to the Congressional Record. She continued her criticism of the Bush administration's handling of the matter and its failure to secure a way back home for Katrina survivors. Cynthia pressed for government transparency and accountability and introduced legislation to release the documents related to the murders of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Tupac Shakur. She was the first Member of Congress to file articles of
impeachment against George Bush and she voted against every war funding bill put before her. Cynthia was forced out of Congress once more in 2007 when she was targeted for defeat, again, by donations from pro-Israel contributors that flooded into her opponent's campaign coffers.
Cynthia McKinney has never been afraid to speak her mind, and stand up for what she believes in. Late in 2007, she left the Democratic Party to take her energy and ideas to the whole country by becoming a Green Party Presidential Candidate. Cynthia won the Green Party nomination for U.S. President and in 2008 ran for President.
In December 2008, Cynthia made international headlines when the Free Gaza boat she was aboard was rammed by the Israeli military as she was attempting to deliver medical supplies to the people of Gaza during Israel's Operation Cast Lead. Cynthia and her fellow humanitarian activists, rescued by Lebanon, never made it to Gaza. In 2009, Cynthia attempted to reach Gaza again, this time armed with crayons, coloring books, and school supplies for the children. She and her fellow human rights workers became the Free Gaza 21 after their boat was overtaken in international waters by the Israeli military and they were kidnapped to Israel. Cynthia spent seven days in an Israeli prison. And again, Cynthia did not make it into Gaza. Finally, Cynthia entered Gaza by land in July 2009 with George Galloway's 250-volunteer-strong Viva Palestina, USA.
And as a rider and a member of the support team, Cynthia recently completed a cross-country bicycle ride with five other Bike4Peace 2010 cyclists who started in California and ended in Washington, D.C., speaking to the American people about the possibility of more peaceful U.S. policies if enough of us are willing to participate in our own positive, personal transformations.
Cynthia had not been on a bicycle in twenty years and faced many personal obstacles along the way. However, she met this challenge with her usual good humor and determination and by the last day of the ride was able to complete over 60 miles on her bicycle. In August 2011, Cynthia completed a very successful 21-city peace tour in the United States, educating urban communities in order to promote a more peaceful U.S. foreign policy.
In 2009, Cynthia conceived of DIGNITY as an international activist peace organization to assert respect for human rights by taking direct action for peace. It was under this banner that Cynthia took three DIGNITY delegations to Libya, including one delegation of journalists during the U.S./NATO/Israel aggression against the Arab Jamahiriya state.
Since 2005, Cynthia became a supporter and follower of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s efforts to “criminalize war.” She has appeared in Kuala Lumpur several times, declaring that city the Peace Capital of the World. She recently reported on her experience in Libya in the “Arab Uprising” Conference organized by the Perdana Global Peace Foundation and served as an official observer at the historic Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal that, on 22 November

American Congresswoman Ms.Tulsi Gabbard arrived at IGI T3 airport on December 15, 2014 in New Delhi, India. A 33-year-old, Tulsi Gabbard was in India on invitation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ms. Tulsi Gabbard travelled to New Delhi, Goa, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Ahmedabad during her two-week trip. She is the first Hindu member of the United States Congress and represents Hawaii's second congressional district since 2013. She took her congressional oath on the Bhagavad Gita.
When India’s new Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, visited America last year, the Prime Minister and Congresswoman met and found they had a great deal in common—including their shared belief that the potential for America and India to collaborate in ways that will benefit the entire world is enormous. As a result of that meeting and the warm rapport that they developed, Prime Minister Modi invited Tulsi to visit his country—an invitation Tulsi accepted in December while Congress was in recess.
While in India, Tulsi met with Prime Minister Modi again, focusing on topics of mutual interest to America and India. She developed relationships with many of India’s leaders in government, the military, and in the private sector, and spoke at several venues, including the prestigious India Ideas Conclave. She visited seven major cities in India, put in motion the creation of a sister-state relationship between Hawaii and Goa, and toured several sites of spiritual and cultural significance, including the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad.
The Bhagawad Gita is the "perfect textbook" for those who are striving to be "servant leaders" and its message is relevant for all days and ages, American Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard said in New Delhi on Saturday.
"The teachings by Lord Krishna in Bhagawad Gita are life and soul for me. They are the absolute foundation and motivation for the actions and the work and everything that I am trying to do with my life," she said during a discussion on 'The Future of Indo-US Relationships' organised by the India Foundation. Noting that the level of "optimism" for the future of Indo -US ties is very high at the present juncture and there were many areas of collaboration, Tulsi Gabbard, a member of the US House of Representatives said that these ventures can be successful by upholding and living the ideals of Lord Krishna as taught in the Gita.
"We have many areas of opportunity and many areas that we can collaborate. The only way we can be successful in these ventures and in every other part of our lives is by doing our very best to uphold and live by these ideals like Krishna teaches us in Gita of taking actions for service of others. "It's not just the political leaders who are charged with this responsibility but each of us with our own lives," she said.
Tulsi Gabbard, who took her oath as a US Congresswoman on the Bhagawad Gita, said that the text would remain relevant regardless of time and age.
"That's what I found through my own personal experience that the Gita is the perfect text for people who are striving to be servant leaders. This textbook is applicable to everyone. "It is as relevant today as it has always been and as it always will be regardless of your age, where you come from, what language you speak, what gender," she said. Noting her personal experience practising 'Karma and Bhakti Yoga', Tulsi Gabbard said she had gradually understood her "true identity" through it.
"I have gradually been able to understand my true identity. Who I really am, my spiritual essence, my purpose in life," she said. Talking about her days in Iraq, where she had volunteered with the US military, Gabbard said that during that time, she would handle the stress of duty by turning to the Gita.
The Gita has been in news of late in the country after External Affairs Minister Shrimati Sushma Swaraj pushed for the declaration of the textbook as a National Scripture.

While in India, Tulsi met with Prime Minister Modi again, focusing on topics of mutual interest to America and India. She developed relationships with many of India’s leaders in government, the military, and in the private sector, and spoke at several venues, including the prestigious India Ideas Conclave. She visited seven major cities in India, put in motion the creation of a sister-state relationship between Hawaii and Goa, and toured several sites of spiritual and cultural significance, including the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad.
The Bhagawad Gita is the "perfect textbook" for those who are striving to be "servant leaders" and its message is relevant for all days and ages, American Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard said in New Delhi on Saturday.
"The teachings by Lord Krishna in Bhagawad Gita are life and soul for me. They are the absolute foundation and motivation for the actions and the work and everything that I am trying to do with my life," she said during a discussion on 'The Future of Indo-US Relationships' organised by the India Foundation. Noting that the level of "optimism" for the future of Indo -US ties is very high at the present juncture and there were many areas of collaboration, Tulsi Gabbard, a member of the US House of Representatives said that these ventures can be successful by upholding and living the ideals of Lord Krishna as taught in the Gita.
"We have many areas of opportunity and many areas that we can collaborate. The only way we can be successful in these ventures and in every other part of our lives is by doing our very best to uphold and live by these ideals like Krishna teaches us in Gita of taking actions for service of others. "It's not just the political leaders who are charged with this responsibility but each of us with our own lives," she said.
Tulsi Gabbard, who took her oath as a US Congresswoman on the Bhagawad Gita, said that the text would remain relevant regardless of time and age.
"That's what I found through my own personal experience that the Gita is the perfect text for people who are striving to be servant leaders. This textbook is applicable to everyone. "It is as relevant today as it has always been and as it always will be regardless of your age, where you come from, what language you speak, what gender," she said. Noting her personal experience practising 'Karma and Bhakti Yoga', Tulsi Gabbard said she had gradually understood her "true identity" through it.
"I have gradually been able to understand my true identity. Who I really am, my spiritual essence, my purpose in life," she said. Talking about her days in Iraq, where she had volunteered with the US military, Gabbard said that during that time, she would handle the stress of duty by turning to the Gita.
The Gita has been in news of late in the country after External Affairs Minister Shrimati Sushma Swaraj pushed for the declaration of the textbook as a National Scripture.

Leaders call for release of hundreds of millions in U.S. remittances to Greece; new push to attract foreign investment
NEW YORK—Today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), co-chair of the Congressional Hellenic Caucus and Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Capital Markets and GSEs Subcommittee, was joined by prominent members of the Greek and financial communities to urge the U.S. to take two key steps to boost Greece’s economy.
Maloney sent a letter today to U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, and the heads of two key U.S. federal financial regulators urging them to work with their counterparts in Greece to find a way to allow for U.S. remittances to reach family and friends in Greece. The Congresswoman also released a letter co-authored with Hellenic Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), encouraging the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) to explore ways in which it can actively encourage investment in Greece to stimulate economic growth and stability.
Maloney’s efforts follow a meeting she attended on August 6th in Washington D.C. with Greek-American Leaders, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics Caroline Atkinson, and Vice President Joe Biden to discuss efforts to assist Greece during its financial crisis. During the meeting an interministerial committee was established to discuss humanitarian, economic, trade, military, investment, and health issues with the Greek government. Meeting participants encouraged the formulation of a reform plan that would make the debt sustainable and create a path to economic recovery.
The Congresswoman’s sentiments were echoed by those in attendance, including Representatives from Atlantic Bank, New York Businessman John Catsimatidis, Long Island City / Astoria Chamber of Commerce President Arthur Rosenfield, Executive Director of the Hellenic Initiative Mark Arey, and Taso Pardalis with the Hellenic American Leadership Council.
“Greece gets over $800 million a year in remittances, but right now that money is just sitting on the sidelines because of the capital controls on the Greek banks,” Congresswoman Maloney said. “We need to find a way to get the money into the Greek economy right away, so people can start paying bills, buying groceries and creating jobs. That’s why I’m calling on Secretary Lew, Chair Yellen and other U.S. financial regulatory leaders to work with their Greek counterparts to solve this pressing problem. The U.S. should also take steps to encourage more U.S. business investment in Greece and I’m proud to be working with my Hellenic Caucus Co-Chair, Rep. Gus Bilirakis, on a letter to the Overseas Private Investment Corporation urging it to do whatever it can to support Greece during this financial crisis.”
