Clabber is a four player trick-taking card game that is played in southwestern Indiana near Evansville. Clabber is a member of the Jack-Nine family of card games that are popular in Europe. The game is a four player variation of Klaberjass, which was brought to the area by 19th-century German immigrants. The game differs from Euchre in that you are not awarded the number of tricks you take, but the actual point value of cards in those tricks. Additional points can also be scored for a combination of cards in your hand.
Clabber is played by four players in fixed partnerships with partners sitting opposite (on tables where the length is longer than the width, players arrange themselves around the table where opposing team members are sitting together on the same side. Partners must arrange themselves so that they are diagonally opposite to one another). Cards are dealt, from left to right (or clockwise), to opponent then partner, opponent to self. The deck consist of 24 of the standard 52 playing card deck: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, Nine of each of the suits Clubs (♣), Diamonds (♦), Hearts (♥) and Spades (♠). The card ranks from high to low and their values are as follows:
This ya thing I wanna say
Wouldn't throw my love away
I'm coming with the tide
So I never gonna ride off on a side
This is my chariot
My lonely days are gone
This is my chariot
I never gonna blow it once again
Or twice, no nice, cause your eyes is my price
I'm coming with the autumn
I'm coming with the autumn wind
I'm coming with the autumn
I'm coming with the autumn wind
Pick down the apple from the tree
It's charity for you and me
The autumn wind blow chilly and cold
And you are the one that I wanna hold
Please take your stand and come with me
Cast your spell and set us free
From ball and chain
And then we know which way to go
I'm coming with the autumn
I'm coming with the autumn wind
I'm coming with the autumn
