The term Oedipus complex (or, less commonly, Oedipal complex) explains the emotions and ideas that the mind keeps in the unconscious, via dynamic repression, that concentrates upon a child's desire to have sexual relations with the parent of the opposite sex (i.e. males attracted to their mothers, and females attracted to their fathers).Sigmund Freud, who coined the term "Oedipus complex" believed that the Oedipus complex is a desire for the parent in both males and females; Freud deprecated the term "Electra complex", which was introduced by Carl Gustav Jung in regard to the Oedipus complex manifested in young girls. The Oedipus complex occurs in the third — phallic stage (ages 3–6) — of the five psychosexual development stages: (i) the oral, (ii) the anal, (iii) the phallic, (iv) the latent, and (v) the genital — in which the source of libidinal pleasure is in a different erogenous zone of the infant's body.
The "Oedipal complex" refers to the sexual relations and desire shared between a son and his mother and does not have to be reciprocated.
The Oedipus Complex derives its name from a character from Greek Tragedy. This short animation explains the complex and shows how Sigmund Freud and Edvard Westermarck had differing theories around human sexual development. Narrated by Aidan Turner. Scripted by Nigel Warbuton. From the BBC Radio 4 series about life's big questions - A History of Ideas. This project is from the BBC in partnership with The Open University, the animations were created by Cognitive.
Ask Teal Website - http://www.askteal.com The idea of incest sends shivers up our spine, so it is understandable how so many of us would rather deny that sexual feelings exist between parents and children. But the truth is, though not every one is effected by it to the same degree, the Oedipus complex is alive and well within all of us. And until we recognize its patterns, and accept them, we are doomed to neurotically repeat the same pattern in all of our relationships that we originally had with our parents. In this episode, Teal explains Oedipus complex as well as how to release yourself from it's clutches. In psychoanalytic theory, the term Oedipus complex denotes the emotions and ideas that the mind keeps in the unconscious, via dynamic repression, that concentrate upon a boy's desire to sexually possess his mother, and kill his father. Sigmund Freud, who coined the term "Oedipus complex", believed that the Oedipus complex is a desire for the mother in both sexes (he believed that girls have a homosexual crush for their mother).

In which John Green teaches you about one of the least family-friendly family dramas in the history of family dramas, Oedipus Rex. Sophocles' most famous play sees it's main character, who seems like he's got it all together, find out that he's killed his father, married his mother, had a bunch of incest children, and brought a plague down on his adopted hometown. He doesn't take this news well. John touches on all the classic Oedipus themes, including hamartia, fate, and the wrath of the gods, and even gets into some Freud, a...
The Oedipus Complex has fascinated psychologists for decades, but what, if anything does it tell us about human nature?: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/the-oedipus-effect Many writers, from Sophocles to Freud, have seen profound significance in the story of Oedipus who killed his father and married his mother. What does this tell us about human nature? Is there any support for the theories of these complexes? Is there a natural inclination toward incest, or is incest avoidance the norm? To what extent is our choice of partners influenced by early experience of our parents and our relationship with them? Curse myself down, decree of perfection
A slave to mirror ugly stares
A waste of scars rather to torment
Evil equals needle, so I shut my eyes again
So confined, scratch at my eyes
Bleed through my hands
Yesterday was everyday, so I swallow this hell again
Stare blindly
Mock me
Cast this shadow down and I'll keep running
I'll keep running away from you
Inside black painted walls
Leaves a stain of your sickness
Never the knowledge of a vagrant
You fucking leech, crawl out of my skin
I can't feel again
I can't feel again
I can't feel again
I can't feel again
Curse myself down, decree of perfection now
A slave to ugly stares
A waste of scars to torment
Every moment, trapped inside, lost inside, side
