Laurence Henry Tribe (born October 10, 1941) is a professor of constitutional law at Harvard Law School and the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University. He also works with the firm Massey & Gail LLP on a variety of matters.
Tribe is widely recognized as a leading liberal scholar of constitutional law. He is the author of American Constitutional Law (1978), a treatise in that field, and has argued before the United States Supreme Court 35 times.
Tribe was born in the World War II Shanghai ghetto to parents of Askenazi Jewish descent, originally from modern-day Belarus. He attended Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco, California. He holds an A.B. in mathematics, summa cum laude from Harvard College (1962), and a J.D., magna cum laude from Harvard Law School (1966), where he was a member of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. Tribe was a national champion policy debater at Harvard, and later a college coach and high school summer institute teacher.[citation needed]
Tribe served as a law clerk to Mathew Tobriner on the California Supreme Court from 1966–67, and as a law clerk to Potter Stewart of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1967–68. He joined the Harvard Law School faculty as an assistant professor in 1968, receiving tenure in 1972.[citation needed]
John Glover Roberts, Jr. (born January 27, 1955) is the 17th Chief Justice of the United States. He has served since 2005, having been nominated by President George W. Bush after the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist. He has been described as having a conservative judicial philosophy in his jurisprudence.
Roberts grew up in northern Indiana and was educated in a private school before attending Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was managing editor of the Harvard Law Review. After being admitted to the bar, he served as a law clerk for William Rehnquist before taking a position in the Attorney General's office during the Reagan Administration. He went on to serve the Reagan Administration and the George H. W. Bush administration in the Department of Justice and the Office of the White House Counsel, before spending fourteen years in private law practice. During this time, he argued thirty-nine cases before the Supreme Court.
In 2003, he was appointed as a judge of the D.C. Circuit by President George W. Bush, where he served until his nomination to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. When Chief Justice Rehnquist died before Roberts's confirmation hearings, Bush renominated Roberts to fill the newly vacant center seat.
Rafael Edward Cruz, known as Ted Cruz (born December 22, 1970), is the former Solicitor General of the U.S. state of Texas, a position which he held from 2003 to May 2008. Cruz was appointed by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. He was the first Hispanic Solicitor General in Texas, the youngest Solicitor General in the United States, and had the longest tenure in the post thus far in Texas history. He is currently a partner at the law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, where he leads the firm’s U.S. Supreme Court and national appellate litigation practice.
Cruz is a candidate for the 2012 Republican nomination for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Cruz previously served as the director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice, and as Domestic Policy Advisor to U.S. President George W. Bush on the 2000 Bush-Cheney campaign. In addition, from 2004-2009 Cruz was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where he taught U.S. Supreme Court litigation.
Roger Pilon is Vice President for Legal Affairs for the Cato Institute, and an American libertarian legal theorist. In particular, he has developed a libertarian version of the rights theory of his teacher, noted philosopher Alan Gewirth.
Roger Pilon has three philosophy degrees: a bachelor's degree from Columbia University and a masters and doctorate, both from the University of Chicago. He also earned a law degree at the George Washington University.
Pilon is the publisher of the Cato Supreme Court Review. His writing has appeared in such newspapers as the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the Los Angeles Times. He also frequently appears on television shows and testifies before Congress. In addition, Pilon held five senior posts in the administration of Ronald Reagan.
He is married to Juliana Geran Pilon.
Pilon believes that the government only has power to regulate conduct that violates other people's rights. This view is in the tradition of John Locke's view of natural rights. An example of this is the use of contraceptives. Pilon reasons that since people using contraceptives (see Griswold v. Connecticut) were not violating anyone's rights, the state had no authority to regulate such activity. However Pilon believes abortion is not a constitutionally protected right. He reasons that everyone - he hopes - would agree that killing a baby one day after it is born is murder. Then what is the difference between one day after and one day before? The answer is there is no principle difference. Then what about 2 months before or 3? This sort of line drawing, Pilon reasons, is meant to be left to the political branches.
Ramona Ripston served as the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California (ACLU/SC) between 1972 and 2011.
In her 38 years at the helm of ACLU/SC, Ripston has helped bring about substantial reforms in the region.
She is married to Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the US 9th Circuit Court.
FORMO PARTE DE UNA EXPEDICION
AL DESIERTO DEL SADA
SOLO LLEVO UN POLVORON
Y UNA BOLSA CON AGUA
POR QUE YO SOY LAWRENCE DE ARABIA
Y NO TENGO MIEDO DE LAS TRAMPAS
NO HAY CAMELLO QUE SE ME RESISTA
SOY PRIMERA PLANA EN TODAS LAS REVISTAS
HEMOS LLEGADO A UN OASIS
REPLETITO DE MOROS
MATAREMOS 5 O 6
Y BEBEREMOS UN POCO
POR QUE YO SOY LAWRENCE DE ARABIA
Y SE QUE EL AGUA ESTA ENVENENADA
NO BEBAN AMIGOS ES UNA TRAMPA
SIEMPRE LES DIGO QUE TRAIGAN EL AGUA
HAN MUERTO TODOS
SIEMPRE PASA IGUAL
Y MI CAMELLO
SE ENCUENTRA MAL
MALDITOS MOROS
QUE ES LO QUE HAN HECHO
CON MI EXPEDICION DESPUES DE LO QUE ME COSTO CONVENCERLOS
ESTOY SOLO EN MI EXPEDICION
AL DESIERTO DEL SADA
ME HE COMIDO EL POLVORON
Y LA NO ME QUEDA AGUA
POR QUE YO SOY LAWRENCE DE ARABIA
Y NO TENGO MIEDO DE LAS TRAMPAS
NO HAY CAMELLO QUE SE ME RESISTA
SOY PRIMERA PLANA EN TODAS LAS REVISTAS
