Mubarakpur is a city and a municipal board in Azamgarh district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located at a distance of 13 km north-east of the district headquarters in Azamgarh.The place is famous for the manufacture of Benarasi saris, which are also very popular and exported to the World.
It was settled, in the name of Raja Mubarak, a Sufi of Manikpur Karaa, by a sheikh landholder.
Mubarakpur is located at 26°05′N 83°17′E / 26.09°N 83.29°E / 26.09; 83.29. It has an average elevation of 69 metres (226 feet).
During 15th Century (575 Years Back) Raja Mubarak Ali Shah from Kheta Sarai Jaunpur visited the place and laid the foundation of Mubarakpur.Decidents of Raja Mubarak Ali Shah, Gholam Rabbani Farooqi,Ehtesham Ahmed Farooqi,Imtiaz Ahmed Farooqi resides at Mohalla Pura Rani Mubarakpur, however after partition Gholam Rabbani and Ehtesham Ahmed migrated to Pakistan
Earlier the town was called as Qasimabad,after a Muslim landlady Qaseema Bibi. Qasimabad was frequently invaded by kings of neighboring areas and also severely affected by frequent floods from River Tauns. But King Mubaraksha has stopped the invasions and developed the area.
