Bower Ashton is a small district in south west Bristol on the western boundary with North Somerset, lying within the Southville ward, approximately two miles from the city centre. Ashton Court estate, a 850-acre (3.4 km2) recreational area owned by Bristol City Council lies just to the north, the Long Ashton by-pass (Brunel Way, the A370) to the south and the River Avon to the east.
The area is now mainly residential but also includes the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education (formerly the School of Creative Arts) of the University of the West of England, Ashton Park School, which is a specialist Sports College and the Horse and Dog section of Avon and Somerset Constabulary as well as about 180 allotments in 5 different areas. Clifton Bridge and Ashton Gate railway stations are both now closed, but there is some pressure to reopen the latter as part of a rapid transit link from Portishead.

The University of the West of England (also known as UWE Bristol, or simply UWE) is a university located near the city of Bristol, United Kingdom. Its main campus is at Frenchay near Bristol, about five miles (8 km) north of the city centre and close to the M32 motorway.
UWE also has campuses at Glenside in north-east Bristol and Bower Ashton, near Ashton Court in south-west Bristol. There is also a regional centre at Gloucester Docks, Gloucestershire, and an associate faculty (Hartpury College) specialising in animal behaviour and welfare, agricultural and sports related courses in Hartpury, Gloucestershire.
With 26,670 students and 3,000 staff, UWE is the larger of the two universities in Bristol (the longer established University of Bristol has 21,555 students).
The Chancellor of UWE is Sir Ian Carruthers and Steven West is the Vice-Chancellor.
The University of the West of England can trace its roots back to the foundation of the Merchant Venturers Navigation School, which was founded in 1595. Part of this institution, to which the Universities of Bristol and Bath also partly owe their origins, became a technical college which, after merger with other colleges, in turn became Bristol Polytechnic in 1970; the then-main campus was at Ashley Down, now a campus of the City of Bristol College. Like the other former polytechnics, this gained university status and its present name as a result of the Further and Higher Education Act, 1992.

University can be quite an expensive time, especially in your first year when you're still getting used to working out your finances. The last thing you want to be doing is spending a fortune on food, so this budgeting guide is here to show you how to make your money last while still enjoying your time at UWE Bristol.
Filmed on location at Leyprint in Leyland, Lancashire. Part of a project using the Aurasma augmented reality application; this film was one of three triggered by an image produced on a folded carton presented at the BPIF Carton Conference and Packaging Innovations 2012. Delegates could point their mobile devices at the carton (featured twice in this video, depicting two beer glasses) - a choice of three films would then appear to play on the surface of the carton. Filmed and edited by Jim Bower, dialogue by Jim Bower and Ed Mould
