The Kakatiya dynasty was a South Indian dynasty whose capital was Orugallu, now known as Warangal. It was eventually conquered by the Delhi Sultanate.
The demise of Kakatiya dynasty resulted in confusion and anarchy under alien rulers for sometime. Three new fledgling kingdoms arose out of the ruins of the Kakatiya empire namely the Reddy kingdom, Padma Nayaka Velama kingdom and the great Vijayanagara Empire.
Historic sources relating to the Kakatiya dynasty are sparse. Of those that are available, the most prevalent are ancient inscriptions that mainly document matters relating to religion, such as donations to Hindu temples. They are particularly abundant for the period 1175–1324 CE, which is the period when the dynasty most flourished and are a reflection of that. The probability is that many inscriptions have been lost due to buildings falling into disuse and also the ravages of subsequent rulers, most notably the Muslim Mughal Empire in the Telangana region. Inscriptions are still being discovered today but governmental agencies tend to concentrate on recording those that are already known rather than searching for new examples.
Telugu may refer to:
Rani Rudrama Devi (1245–1289), Telugu రుద్రమ దేవి or Rudradeva Maharaja, sometimes spelled Rudramadevi, was a ruler of the Kakatiya dynasty in the Deccan Plateau and one of the few ruling queens in Indian history.
Rudrama Devi was known as Rudrāṃbā at birth. Her father was Ganapatideva. Ganapatideva married Naramma and peramma. Ganapatideva brother-in-law was Jayapanadu, he was military commander of kakatiya ganapatideva. They were from Durjaya vamsa, the emperor of the Kakatiya dynasty who ruled from Orugallu, now known as Warangal, in Telangana. Rudrama was formally designated as a son through the ancient Putrika ceremony and given the male name of Rudradeva.
Rudrama Devi has begun to rule the kingdom jointly with her father as his co-regent from 1259-60 under the name of Rudradeva Maharaja. In the first two or three years of their joint rule, the kingdom was thrown into confusion and disorder due to Jatavarma Sundara Pandya I's invasion and the disastrous defeat of the Kakatiyas and their allies on the battle field of Muttukur, near Nellore. Though Ganapatideva was ultimately successful in turning back the tide of invasion, he suffered loss of territory and prestige and his hold over his feudatories and nobles was shaken. Under these circumstances, he retired from active politics.
Prataparudra (c. 1289–1323), also known as Rudradeva II, was the last ruler in the Kakatiya dynasty. Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq's general, Ulugh Khan, occupied Warangal and Prataparudra was sent to Delhi as a captive. He committed suicide along the way.
Prataparuda was the grandson of Rudramadevi. On the death of Rudramadevi, Prataparudra, who was adopted by her as son and as heir-apparent on the advice of her father, Ganapatideva, ascended the throne towards the end of 1289 or the beginning of 1290 CE. Rudramadevi died in Chandupatla village when in battle with Ambadeva, a rebel Kayastha chief. An inscription was found in 1994 at Chandupatla that confirmed the death date of Rudramadevi as 27 November 1289, until which point there had been no certainty.,
Prataparudra's entire reign was spent in fighting wars.

By the end of the 12th century, their empire was split into several local kingdoms. The empire and the dynasty which gave andhra its first map and an official language came to an end, but fate had a very glorious future for andhra.
