This video series will examine the ancient mathematical philosophy of Pythagoras and Plato. The focus will be on metaphysics and ontology, symbolism and contemplation, and anagogue, or spiritual ascent.
In this second video, we will outline the very basics of Proclus' philosophy of mathematics. Proclus lived in the 5th century AD in Athens and wrote commentaries on Plato, but also on Euclid's Elements. His commentary on Euclid is the only systematic philosophy of mathematics from antiquity, which is notable for classifying mathematics within a Platonic metaphysical hierarchy of being. We will demonstrate Proclus' classification of mathematical objects onto the level of Understanding, which is below Intellect and above Opinion.

Proclus (412-485 A.d.) was one of the last official 'successors' of Plato at the head of the Academy in Athens at the end of Antiquity, before the school was finally closed down in 529. As a prolific author of systematic works on a wide range of topics and one of the most influential commentators on Plato of all times, the legacy of Proclus in the cultural history of the west can hardly be overestimated.this book introduces the reader to Proclus' life and works, his place in the Platonic tradition of Antiquity and the influence his work exerted in later ages. Various chapters are devoted to Proclus' metaphysical system, including his doctrines about the first principle of all reality, the One, and about the Forms and the soul. We recite Proclus' "Hymn to God" in the original Greek and invoke the spirit of Proclus as the teacher of theurgy (Proklos Didaskalos Theourgia). We begin by reading the hymn in the English translation and then read it in the original Greek. This will give us an opportunity to demonstrate the power of reading hymns and prayers in their original language by listening to both versions for a comparison.
This is also an opportunity to practice the breathing technique that was demonstrated in the "Vibrational Linguistic Coding" video series. We perform the breathing sequence to activate the gamma brain wave and efficiently process the energy that was generated by reciting the hymn.

Proclus
Proclus Lycaeus (/ˈprɒkləs ˌlaɪˈsiːəs/; 8 February 412 – 17 April 485 AD), called the Successor (Greek Πρόκλος ὁ Διάδοχος, Próklos ho Diádokhos), was a Greek Neoplatonist philosopher, one of the last major Classical philosophers (see Damascius). He set forth one of the most elaborate and fully developed systems of Neoplatonism. He stands near the end of the classical development of philosophy, and was very influential on Western medieval philosophy (Greek and Latin).
Biography
Proclus was born February 8, 412 AD (his birth date is deduced from a horoscope cast by a disciple, Marinus) in Constantinople to a family of high social status in Lycia (his father Patricius was a high legal official, very important in the Byzantine Empire's court system) and raised in Xanthus. He studied rhetoric, philosophy and mathematics in Alexandria, with the intent of pursuing a judicial position like his father. Before completing his studies, he returned to Constantinople when his rector, his principal instructor (one Leonas), had business there.
