Please show solidarity and help the arrested anarchist Dmitry Buchenkov

A well-known antifascist and anarchist Dmitry Buchenkov, PhD in political science, was arrested in Moscow in December 2015. He is suspected of participating in the riots of May 6, 2012. More than 400 persons were arrested as a result of a mass protest action against Putin’s politics that took place on May 6, 2012 in Moscow. Dmitry was not in Moscow on that day, he was in Nizhny Novgorod, more than 300 km away from Moscow. Dmitry is a long-time participant of the antifascist and anarchist movements and he has done a lot for their development. Dmitry’s comrades and friends believe that the arrest is related to his political militancy and his active position regarding the developments taking place in the country.

Sat 26th of March Disturbances-lecture: The Arrival of Feminism at the Anarchist Movement - the Anarcho-Feminist Union 'Peppi' And Other Feminist Groups in the Activist Movement of the 1990s

Doors open at 4 pm, Lecture begins at 4:15 pm The anarchist movement in Finland in the 1990s was largely organized by men. The Finnish Anarchist Union, FAU (Suomen anarkistiliitto, SAL), Kapinatyöläinen-magazine ("Rebel Worker"), solidarity demonstrations and panel discussions were dominated by men, and mostly men's voices were heard at anarchist meetings. Red anarchism in Helsinki, especially, leaned heavily on the traditions of the workers' movement which did include lofty speeches about women's rights but whose gender roles were, in practice, quite traditional. In 1995, Peppi, an anarcho-feminist union, was founded to tackle these problems, and the individuals involved wanted to approach feminism as a matter of class and race in addition to opposing...

Education Strike debate 14th of February 2016

In Kupoli, Mannerheimintie 7 b 7th floor. The Porthania squat of September 2015 began the Education Strike movement that also spread to Turku, Tampere, Joensuu and Jyväskylä. On December 1st, there were demonstrations around Finland, in Helsinki the university main building was squatted on, and in Turku, the Porthania squat's record for the the longest-standing university squat in the history of Finland was beaten. For the first time in the history of the student movement in Finland, it would seem, multiple buildings were squatted on simultaneously in several cities. However, the planned education cuts have not been canceled, and in January, the University of Helsinki announced that it would be sacking 570 employees as the result of negotiations. How should the anti-education...

Dmitry Okrest: "Who are your comrades now?"

At the beginning of December, Dmitry Buchenkov became the latest person in Russia’s ‘Bolotnaya Case’, a series of investigations and trials into Russia’s opposition now in its fourth year. Buchenkov, a 36-year old history lecturer at a Moscow medical university, is the 31st defendant in Bolotnaya. More than two hundred people were detained in the initial case, which stretches back to the ‘March of the Millions’, an opposition demonstration on the eponymous square in May 2012. The protest was timed to coincide with the inauguration of Vladimir Putin’s third presidential term, and this didn’t go unnoticed. During the sanctioned demonstration, the police cut off the square, in effect ‘kettling’ the protesters. Scuffles started between police and protesters, and a pitched battle of sorts began before the crowd was violently dispersed.

Alexander Litoy: "Autonomous Counteraction. Russian authorities clamp down on anarchists"

Russian authorities have upped the ante in their pressure on anarchists from “Autonomous Action” movement as of late – this includes a new prisoner charged with the Bolotnaya Square case, Dmitry Buchenkov, and an antifa activist Alexei Sutuga. The Insider found out why the Kremlin is all rage against the leftist anarchists, and we also talked to Sutuga’s mother. Buchenkov and Sutuga  A new figure appeared last week in the Bolotnaya Square case: Dmitry Buchenkov, Ph.D. in political science, docent in the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I.Pirogov (the so called 2nd Med) was arrested charged with a standard set of accusations used in the May 6 case. Buchenkov was allegedly bashing coppers and participating in the riots....

In Kupoli, Uusi ylioppilastalo, Mannerheimintie 5 B 7th floor. Food served 4PM, Lecture 4:30PM What kind of effects did the Russian Revolution of March 1917 have in Finland? Why were there riots at the Helsinki Stock Exchange and why did the authorities eventually disperse the people's assemblies in August? This is the story of a year when everything felt possible. The event is the second part in a series of lectures about the history of Finnish anarchism. Disturbances is an open series of lectures and discussions at the crossroads of society, philosophy, history, economy and resistance. We are already aware that we can not live as before, but we do not know what the future holds. Others are stuck in the past, but we only want to understand it. The photo of the person allegedly similar to Dmitry Buchenkov has been found

"OVD-INFO" (russian NGO which observes police repressions) has found photos of Bolotnaya Square on May 6, 2012. In the center the person in black "which in Investigative committee (Russian analog of FBI) is considered to be Dmitry Buchenkov". According to Buchenkov's companions, it is obviouslu another person. Any person who has seen Dmitry Buchenkov at least once, would understand that there is different person on this photo. But our state and its repressive structures probably have "problems with sight", giving out a photo of the unknown person for a photo Dmitry.

Anarchist Dmitry Buchenkov: "I was arrested for my political convictions"

Human rights activists found the new person involved in "Bolotnaya Square case" who was looked for four days by relatives and the lawyer. I remember how three years ago we counted arrested of "bolotnik": the first, the second, thirteenth, eighteenth. Then some of arrested were released — it appeared that they have an alibi and on Bolotnaya Square on May 6 they weren't. Then trials of those who really was on Bolotnaya Square, but those crimes which were charged began, didn't make at all — that is police officers didn't beat, to them didn't hurt, and only protected from them those whom police officers rigidly detained.

In Kupoli, Uusi ylioppilastalo, Mannerheimintie 5 B 7th floor. Food served 4PM, Lecture 4:30PM The lecture focuses on the idea of a world without prisons by examining contemporary projects of transformative justice. These projects are searching an answer to the question: how to organize community-based justice practices and fight violence without the police and punitive state justice system? Through practical examples I will present the concept of transformative justice which functions as a device for several anarchist, queer-, and activist communities in their efforts to solve internal conflicts (e.g. sexual harassment or violence), undermining social structures behind the individual acts of violence. Aino-Marjatta Mäki, who will speak via skype, is a Lacanian doctoral student, who...

He has worked with the ABC – Moscow collective, and has aided detainees and arrested anti-fascists and anarchists within Izhevsk, helping them look for lawyers; he has been very vocal concerning police and state repression against anti-fascists in the city; he has also actively participated in solidarity actions in support of imprisoned anti-fascists and social activists. Due to serious problems with his health which arose after an attack by Neo-Nazis on Oleg in 2004, he is in dire need of help. Please share the story Oleg's case within your communities, organize solidarity concerts and events, and/or even write a letter to him for support. Notes from the general strike of 100 million euros

We flowed among the water and our co-demonstrators to the mass demonstration at the central railway station in Helsinki. We were there to oppose the redistribution of income from the poor and the middle income workers to the rich, and from employees to corporations planned by the cabinet of prime-minister Sipilä. There were more than 30,000 of us. STOP, as the demonstration (TN: 18th of September 2015) was called, was the largest in Finland for decades. It was the biggest that I have personally ever attended in this country and possibly the biggest demonstration of labor unions since the 1950’s. It probably is the first one in the 21st century that saw a lot more people than it seemed it would judging from the Facebook event. So everything isn’t yet organized through...

July 25 International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners!!

International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners Saturday, July 25, 2015 Antifascists fight against those who—in the government or in the streets—dream of imposing their fascist and other Far Right nationalist nightmares on the rest of us. Throughout the world, Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, and racist bigotries are on the rise. Antifas are on the frontline in confronting these reactionary politics, and we will not forget our comrades imprisoned in the course of this struggle. The July 25 International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners originated in 2014 as a Day of Solidarity with Jock Palfreeman, an Australian who is imprisoned in Bulgaria for defending two Romani men from an attack by fascist football hooligans. Groups around the world took...
