A selection of familiar scenes from around Edgware and Golders Green tube stations. Pleasing to see a few ALX-bodied Tridents still around, although these are gradually disappearing, along with Plaxton President-bodied vehicles (like the Volvo being towed at 12:05). Only one Dennis Dart in evidence on the morning I visited.
On this day I was harangued by two male bus drivers who didn't want their picture taken. In a country that allegedly has more CCTV cameras than anywhere else in the world, this seems laughably precious behaviour to me. My view is that if you're in a public place, there's nothing you can do about it - it's not against the law, and I can't see why anyone would protest if they have nothing to hide. [working while claiming benefits, perhaps?]
Filmed in 4K UHD and downsampled to HD. Mostly shot hand-held, some clips were stabilised using proDAD Mercalli, but it's not perfect, which is why there's an occasional jitter.

A video review of the bus services all over Central Bedfordshire. FYI, Central Bedfordshire is what was left after successive local government reorganisations removed the boroughs of Luton and Bedford from the County of Bedfordshire. Services range from weekly rural journeys to buses every few minutes on the Luton Dunstable guided busway. You will see some interesting workings, like the extraordinary northbound loopback at Clophill, and the reverse turn at Sandy, Engayne Avenue. Although all buses are low floor (except the community buses), Arriva, Grant Palmer and Centrebus all manage to field 1997 vintage Dennis Darts, the oldest being Arriva's P195LKJ. Arriva also have the newest vehicles in the video - 63-reg Volvo B7RLEs (although Centrebus had some 14-plate Enviro 200s in the area, I wasn't lucky enough to see one).

A selection of familiar scenes from around Edgware and Golders Green tube stations. Pleasing to see a few ALX-bodied Tridents still around, although these are gradually disappearing, along with Plaxton President-bodied vehicles (like the Volvo being towed at 12:05). Only one Dennis Dart in evidence on the morning I visited. On this day I was harangued by two male bus drivers who didn't want their picture taken. In a country that allegedly has more CCTV cameras than anywhere else in the world, this seems laughably precious behaviour to me. My view is that if you're in a public place, there's nothing you can do about it - it's not against the law, and I can't see why anyone would protest if they have nothing to hide. [working while claiming benefits, perhaps?] Filmed in 4K UHD and downsampled to HD. Mostly shot hand-held, some clips were stabilised using proDAD Mercalli, but it's not perfect, which is why there's an occasional jitter. -

A video review of the bus services all over Central Bedfordshire. FYI, Central Bedfordshire is what was left after successive local government reorganisations removed the boroughs of Luton and Bedford from the County of Bedfordshire. Services range from weekly rural journeys to buses every few minutes on the Luton Dunstable guided busway. You will see some interesting workings, like the extraordinary northbound loopback at Clophill, and the reverse turn at Sandy, Engayne Avenue. Although all buses are low floor (except the community buses), Arriva, Grant Palmer and Centrebus all manage to field 1997 vintage Dennis Darts, the oldest being Arriva's P195LKJ. Arriva also have the newest vehicles in the video - 63-reg Volvo B7RLEs (although Centrebus had some 14-plate Enviro 200s in the area, I wasn't lucky enough to see one). -

I don't have plans for any other bus videos currently, but if this one does well I may do one annually. Anyways, for the past couple of months I've been developing this video summarizing the transit buses that operate in LA (though mostly just around the Western/South Bay areas of the city). I'm impressed with how it turned out, including driving shots of Metro, Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus, Torrance Transit, Beach Cities Transit, and as a bonus, the rental car buses that operate in and around LAX. In addition, there are riding clips on SaMo's BBB, Culver City Bus, and Metro. Throughout the video you will see buses manufactured by New Flyer, NABI, Gillig, El Dorado, and Orion. I'd also like to say that LA's bus system is very unique, as opposed to their being one big transit operator (such as the MTA in New York, Valley Metro in Phoenix, or the VTA in San Jose) there are dozens of smaller ones in addition to county-wide Metro. Transit operators in Greater LA not seen in this video include LADOT's Dash and Commuter Express, Gardena Municipal Bus Lines, Norwalk Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Long Beach Transit, OCTA (mostly Orange County, but they do overlap with Metro and others), Foothill Transit, and many more.

I don't have plans for any other bus videos currently, but if this one does well I may do one annually. Anyways, for the past couple of months I've been developing this video summarizing the transit buses that operate in LA (though mostly just around the Western/South Bay areas of the city). I'm impressed with how it turned out, including driving shots of Metro, Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus, Torrance Transit, Beach Cities Transit, and as a bonus, the rental car buses that operate in and around LAX. In addition, there are riding clips on SaMo's BBB, Culver City Bus, and Metro. Throughout the video you will see buses manufactured by New Flyer, NABI, Gillig, El Dorado, and Orion. A selection of familiar scenes from around Edgware and Golders Green tube stations. Pleasing to see a few ALX-bodied Tridents still around, although these are gradually disappearing, along with Plaxton President-bodied vehicles (like the Volvo being towed at 12:05). Only one Dennis Dart in evidence on the morning I visited.
On this day I was harangued by two male bus drivers who didn't want their picture taken. In a country that allegedly has more CCTV cameras than anywhere else in the world, this seems laughably precious behaviour to me. My view is that if you're in a public place, there's nothing you can do about it - it's not against the law, and I can't see why anyone would protest if they have nothing to hide. [working while claiming benefits, perhaps?]
Filmed in 4K UHD and downsampled to HD. Mostly shot hand-held, some clips were stabilised using proDAD Mercalli, but it's not perfect, which is why there's an occasional jitter.

A video review of the bus services all over Central Bedfordshire. FYI, Central Bedfordshire is what was left after successive local government reorganisations removed the boroughs of Luton and Bedford from the County of Bedfordshire. Services range from weekly rural journeys to buses every few minutes on the Luton Dunstable guided busway. You will see some interesting workings, like the extraordinary northbound loopback at Clophill, and the reverse turn at Sandy, Engayne Avenue. Although all buses are low floor (except the community buses), Arriva, Grant Palmer and Centrebus all manage to field 1997 vintage Dennis Darts, the oldest being Arriva's P195LKJ. Arriva also have the newest vehicles in the video - 63-reg Volvo B7RLEs (although Centrebus had some 14-plate Enviro 200s in the area, I wasn't lucky enough to see one).

I don't have plans for any other bus videos currently, but if this one does well I may do one annually.
Anyways, for the past couple of months I've been developing this video summarizing the transit buses that operate in LA (though mostly just around the Western/South Bay areas of the city). I'm impressed with how it turned out, including driving shots of Metro, Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus, Torrance Transit, Beach Cities Transit, and as a bonus, the rental car buses that operate in and around LAX. In addition, there are riding clips on SaMo's BBB, Culver City Bus, and Metro. Throughout the video you will see buses manufactured by New Flyer, NABI, Gillig, El Dorado, and Orion.
I'd also like to say that LA's bus system is very unique, as opposed to their being one big transit operator (such as the MTA in New York, Valley Metro in Phoenix, or the VTA in San Jose) there are dozens of smaller ones in addition to county-wide Metro. Transit operators in Greater LA not seen in this video include LADOT's Dash and Commuter Express, Gardena Municipal Bus Lines, Norwalk Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Long Beach Transit, OCTA (mostly Orange County, but they do overlap with Metro and others), Foothill Transit, and many more.

I chose this route because it shows a London that the tourist will rarely see (like Holloway Prison!) First up, there are the crowds drawn to Camden by the famous Camden Market. We don't go past the market, but head towards the Holloway Road (where the trams used to run) and continue along Seven Sisters Road to Finsbury Park Station, where we see football supporters gathering for a friendly drink before making their way to White Hart Lane (RESULT: Arsenal beat Tottenham 1-0 - bad luck Spurs!). Then we see Finsbury Park itself - packed with sun worshippers on this uncommonly fine Spring day. At 19:18, you come to Manor House, an old divisional HQ of London Transport Buses, where I remember seeing Routemasters doing U-turns in the road outside (not so dangerous in those days!) From S... -

The second (and long overdue!) volume of buses in London! First we see lots of variety with Transport for London and Intalink buses meeting at Waltham Cross bus station, just north of London. Next we see new Borismasters and old AEC Routemasters along with other TFL buses and sightseeing buses at St. Paul's Cathedral. After this we head over to the Marble Arch where we see more TFL buses along with lots of long-distance buses operated by Green Line, National Express and Stagecoach. Our fourth destination is Waterloo, where we see lots of TFL double-deckers as well as some single-deck hydrogen-powered buses in operation. [British Bus Rides] Arriva London North 253 from Euston to Hackney Central (whole route)

I chose this route because it shows a London that the tourist will rarely see (like Holloway Prison!) First up, there are the crowds drawn to Camden by the famous Camden Market. We don't go past the market, but head towards the Holloway Road (where the trams used to run) and continue along Seven Sisters Road to Finsbury Park Station, where we see football supporters gathering for a friendly drink before making their way to White Hart Lane (RESULT: Arsenal beat Tottenham 1-0 - bad luck Spurs!). Then we see Finsbury Park itself - packed with sun worshippers on this uncommonly fine Spring day. At 19:18, you come to Manor House, an old divisional HQ of London Transport Buses, where I remember seeing Routemasters doing U-turns in the road outside (not so dangerous in those days!) From Stamford Hill Station onwards, you will see the Orthodox Jews and their children (all wearing ceremonial dress) celebrating Purim; there are street parties, and Yiddish music is playing everywhere (watch out for the open-top Routemaster on the left at 28:30). This all causes a bit of traffic congestion.
Because I have edited out the dwell time at bus stops, you will only rarely hear the awful noise this bus makes when the centre doors close - it sounds like a cheap car alarm!
After Clapton Pond, the bus turns south, and I'm afraid the video quality drops off as the bus drives into the sun. The last couple of clips show the newish trains on the London Overground at Hackney Central - even on a Sunday, these trains are packed!

PS. Bus lanes would be great, if they were in force 24x7, and nobody else was allowed in them! See if you can spot the incredibly dangerous manoeuvre forced on the bus driver by a parkled car.

Papa Wemba, a musician known around the world as the king of Congolese rumba, has died following a collapse on stage during a concert, officials said. He was 66. Culture Minister Baudouin Banza Mukalay confirmed the musician’s death on Sunday, calling it a “great loss for the country and all of Africa.” ...
