Burry Port (Welsh: Porth Tywyn) is a small town five miles (8 km) outside the larger centre of Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, Wales, lying on the Loughor estuary. The town's population was 4,209 in the 2001 census and 4,240 in 2012.
The town is home to a harbour and is where Amelia Earhart landed as the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The Pembrey Burrows sand dune and wetland system, home to a country park and the Cefn Sidan sands, lie nearby. The town also has a proud musical heritage and is also home to Burry Port Opera, Male Choir and Burry Port Town Band
Burry Port lies south east of the Gwendraeth valley which runs north easterly from Kidwelly for about twelve miles (19 km). The land around the valley itself contains large amounts of coal as well as limestone. The Gwendraeth Fawr flows the length of the valley and joins the sea south of Kidwelly flowing into the estuary of the Loughor river (known locally as the "Burry"). West of the town's shoreline is Pembrey Burrows, a large area of burrow and marshland which historically occupied many square miles of land, much of which has later been reclaimed. To the north of the town is the hill Mynydd Pembrey, or Pembrey Mountain.

Burry Port driftwood 'barnacle monster' draws a crowd
With a very high tide and the close proximity to Storm Ophelia, I decided to go down to Burry Port Harbour to capture some video footage. I was unable to walk at times due to the strength of the winds coming in from the Atlantic, and was covered in sand on the way to the Harbour. Exhilarating and uncomfortable with hand holding the camera very difficult at times. I've not added any music, as the natural sounds make it more realistic. Sit back and enjoy.

People walking on Burry Port beach in Cambridgeshire discovered the strange object beached on the sand. The giant object , which is covered in barnacles and shells, has sparked much confusion as people don't have a clue what it is. Vintage footage of a journey through Burry Port in 1989, 25 years ago. This was before the Southern By Pass, the Carmarthen Bay Power Station was still there, no road bumps, driving past Roberts Coaches and the route through the town was different to what you have now. The quality of this upload is not to the standard you get with modern equipment, but I hope you enjoy the content.
Messing around again with me m8 on a two night trip....
The original footage was taken on silent 8mm Cine Film, and transferred professionally onto a DVD. Unfortunately the quality was not good, and I have been asked by the owner Terry Dickinson if I could improve it, as she wanted to show it on the Memories of Burry Port Facebook page. So I hope you enjoy watching this 47 year old footage.
A view over Burry Port where you can see the many streets and houses that make up this friendly town. Beyond these you can see the beautiful coastline and lighthouse that attract many visitors each year. At the other side you can see Gower peninsula in the distance.

A personal look at my home town of Burry Port in Carmarthenshire. I have deliberately left out any captions, as those of you that know the town will know where the locations are, and the remaining viewers can enjoy this beautiful seaside town in glorious Summer sunshine. Further information on Burry Port can be easily accessed on the Internet.

We went for a stroll down to Burry Port Harbour, and these views clearly show Carmarthen Bay Power Station overlooking the area in 1989, some 25 years ago now....A nostalgic look back to how it was. Music 'Eye of the beholder' by John Serrie from the YouTube Audio Swap Collection.
Burry Port driftwood 'barnacle monster' draws a crowd Some have likened it to a sea monster with tentacles, while others have dubbed it the beast of Burry Port - but what has washed up on a Carmarthenshire beach? It is in fact a large piece of driftwood encrusted with gooseneck barnacles - which are a delicacy in Spain, according to council ranger Emyr Richards. The spectacle has attracted crowds of people over the past couple of days. However, as the barnacles survive in water, they are now beginning to die. Wales Burry Port

The event was held at the Burry Port Yatch Club on Burry Port Harbour, and I was delighted to be invited along with Mrs M to this wonderful event to celebrate Amanda's 50th Birthday, along with Family and Friends. There was Live Music from What the Funk, a Disco and Karaoke, making for a very interesting Party.
