Quebec (i/kwᵻˈbɛk/ or /kəˈbɛk/; French: Québec [kebɛk]) is the second-most populous province in Canada. It is the only Canadian province that has a predominantly French-speaking population, and the only one to have French as its sole provincial official language.
Quebec is Canada's largest province by area and its second-largest administrative division; only the territory of Nunavut is larger. It is bordered to the west by the province of Ontario, James Bay, and Hudson Bay; to the north by Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay; to the east by the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador; it is bordered on the south by the province of New Brunswick and the U.S. states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. It also shares maritime borders with Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.
Quebec is Canada's second most populous province, after Ontario. Most inhabitants live in urban areas near the Saint Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City, the capital. Approximately half of Quebec residents live in the Greater Montreal Area, including the Island of Montreal. English-speaking communities and English-language institutions are concentrated in the west of the island of Montreal but are also significantly present in the Outaouais, Eastern Townships, and Gaspé regions. The Nord-du-Québec region, occupying the northern half of the province, is sparsely populated and inhabited primarily by Aboriginal peoples. The climate around the major cities is four-season continental with cold and snowy winters combined with warm to hot humid summers, but further north long winter seasons dominate and as a result the northern areas of the province are marked by tundra conditions. Even in central Quebec at comparatively southerly latitudes winters are very severe in inland areas.
Nord-du-Québec (French pronunciation: [nɔʁ dy kebɛk]; English: Northern Quebec) is the largest of the seventeen administrative regions of Quebec, Canada. With nearly 750,000 square kilometres (290,000 sq mi) of land area, and very extensive lakes and rivers, it covers much of the Labrador Peninsula and about 55% of the total land surface area of Quebec.
Before 1912, the northernmost part of this region was known as the Ungava District of the Northwest Territories, and until 1987 it was referred to as Nouveau-Québec, or New Quebec. It is bordered by Hudson Bay and James Bay in the west, Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay in the north, Labrador in the northeast, and the administrative regions of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Mauricie, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, and Côte-Nord in the south and southeast.
The Nord-du-Québec region is part of the territory covered by the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement of 1975; other regions covered (in part) by this Agreement include Côte-Nord, Mauricie and Abitibi-Témiscamingue administrative regions.
James Bay (French: Baie James, Cree: Wînipekw) is a large body of water on the southern end of Hudson Bay in Canada. Both bodies of water extend from the Arctic Ocean. It is the southernmost part of the Arctic Ocean. James Bay borders the provinces of Quebec and Ontario; islands within the bay (the largest of which is Akimiski Island) are part of Nunavut. The James Bay watershed is the site of several major hydroelectric projects, and is also a destination for river-based recreation. Several communities are located near or alongside James Bay, including a number of Aboriginal communities such as the Kashechewan First Nation and nine communities affiliated with the Crees of northern Quebec.
As with the rest of Hudson Bay, the waters of James Bay routinely freeze over in winter, although it is the last to freeze over in winter, and conversely the first to thaw in summer.
Human presence along the shores of the bay can be traced back to the retreat of the glaciers at the end of the last ice age around 8,150 years ago. Since contact with Europeans, the indigenous peoples along both shores of the bay were ethnically Cree peoples.

An overview of my late August 2016 trip to Lac Evans in northern Quebec with Bushland Adventures. Evans is a sprawling James Bay lowland lake with an average depth of 10-15 feet. It's also a prolific body of water that pumps out ridiculous numbers of trophy sized pike up to and over 50" every year! There are three different outpost camps operating in different areas of the lake, all run by Bushland Adventures. If you're a hardcore trophy pike nut and don't need the frills and luxuries of a fancy lodge then Evans is for you. I loved it and can't wait to get back! www.bushlandadventures.com

In this travel video guide to Quebec City, I travel around Quebec City including its historic Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), stop in at the famed Ice Hotel where visitors spend the night on ice beds, and explore the Winter Carnival, the biggest winter carnival in the world that attracts over 600,000 people a year. I finish up the Winter Carnival by watching a night parade and partying it up at a nighttime outdoor snow rave. * The host, Matt Stabile, of this video is the founder and editor-in-chief of the travel site http://www.TheExpeditioner.com. Travel video about destination Ville de Québec in Canada. On behalf of the French crown, in 1608, Samuel de Champlain established a fur trading post from which originated Québec, a city that today looms over the Saint Lawrence River like a majestic fortress. It is the birthplace of French culture in North America. With its small towers and green glimmering roofs, the Chateau Frontenac majestically watches over the city. The castle like hotel was built and lavishly furnished in 1894 by the Canadian Pacific Railway and in 1943, was the rendezvous for the allies who met to prepare for the Normandy Landings. Québec's upper city is encircled by a four kilometre long fortified wall that was alternately built upon by the French and the English. In former times, various gates barred entry to the...
Having now visited Quebec City in both the summer and winter I'm officially naming it our favorite city in Canada. I've never visited a city where I felt such a radical difference between seasons. As this video show, for many, winter is also the perfect time to try something new. Bonjourquebec.com

The Canadian province of Quebéc is a traditional wintersports destination. However, it is during the warm summers that its elegant capital, Quebéc City, really comes to life. Visit Quebéc City to get a taste of France in a familiar North American setting. The walled Upper Town, with all its towers and grand buildings, is just as charming as the historic Lower Town. A funicular and the so-called L'Escalier Casse-Cou (Breakneck Stairs) connects the two parts of the heritage-listed city center. The Musée de la Civilisation near the waterfront showcases the history of Quebéc, from the First Nations to modern times. The city sprung up around the Notre Dame basilica at Place Royale. Dufferin Terrace is a long promenade with views of the St. Lawrence River. It is overlooked by the landmark Chât...

It is Canada’s second largest city and has the largest population of French speakers outside of Paris. Here is a Canadian city with a French soul, a big heart and a very hip attitude. A city that enchants visitors with an old-world charm and an unpretentious love of good food and festivals. The first Europeans to arrive here were from France and while the British later claimed ownership, an elegant sophistication lingers like a perfume.
