The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) was established in Darjeeling, India on November 4, 1954 to encourage mountaineering as an organized sport in India. The first ascent of Mount Everest in 1953 by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary sparked a keen interest in establishing mountaineering as a well-respected endeavour for people in the region. With the impetus provided by the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, HMI was established in Darjeeling. Tenzing Norgay was the first director of field training for HMI. HMI regularly conducts Adventure, Basic and Advanced Mountaineering courses. These are very comprehensive courses. They are also highly subsidised to encourage mountaineering as a sport. for more amazing related videos subscribe to our channel:http://goo.gl/kOtZNL

I Didn't Die At Base Camp. It has been an intense few days out here. Ben is safe at ABC and resting up for the long walk home to BC. Last night I was invited to a late dinner by my Indian friends from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Expedition. You cannot believe the true sense of celebration that these folks shared with me. Their team was one of the first to summit and they were celebrating on behalf of their success, and the success of Ben and of Kolyia from the St Petersburg, Russia, team. It was quite an evening. I'm sure you could hear the singing all the way up on the summit! Underneath all of the celebration, however, is an intense desire to get the hell out of here. All of the members of Ben's expedition have been here at Everest for 42 days. That's just here at Everest.....

Session from the Aspen Ideas Festival 2012. The Himalaya are home to the world's most magnificent peaks and thousands of high-altitude glaciers. These important glaciers supply crucial seasonal flows to rivers across Asia, yet many are disappearing at an increasing rate. "Rivers of Ice" presents recent photographs by mountaineer and photographer David Breashears of the world's least studied glaciers alongside archival photographs taken over the past century by the world's greatest alpine photographers. The comparison starkly reveals the alarming loss of ice during the intervening years.
You are invited to a free evening seminar on essential skills and know-how to make the transition from peakbagging and backpacking to mountaineering. Dodital means Emerald Lake and is situated at a height of 10, 500 feet in a forested bowl above Uttarkashi in Uttaranchal, now named Uttarakhand. It is a two day trek from the road head at Kalyani, along the Assi Ganga River. The first day's stop, after a brief but steep trek, is at Agoda village. After that, one walks 16 kilometers, across Rhododendron and oak forests to Dodital, passing through some beautiful mountain scapes inhabited by Goral (a wild Himalayan mountain goat) and Black Bear and coveys of Monal Pheasant with their iridescent plumage. Above Dodital lies Darwa Top, from where one can get beautiful views of Bandarpunch or Banderpunch (White and Black Peak) at around 20, 956 feet, and views of the Gangotri valley. Other images include Primula macrophylla, Short-toed Eagle doi...
