Nikon Corporation (株式会社ニコン Kabushiki-gaisha Nikon)
listen (help·info) (TYO: 7731), also known as just Nikon, is a Japanese multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, specializing in optics and imaging. Its products include cameras, binoculars, microscopes, measurement instruments, and the steppers used in the photolithography steps of semiconductor fabrication, of which it is the world's second largest manufacturer. The companies held by Nikon form the Nikon Group. Among its products are Nikkor imaging lenses (for F-mount cameras, large format photography, photographic enlargers, and other applications), the Nikon F-series of 135 film SLR cameras, the Nikon D-series of digital SLR cameras, the Coolpix series of compact digital cameras, and the Nikonos series of underwater film cameras. Nikon's main competitors in camera and lens manufacturing include Canon, Casio, Kodak, Sony, Pentax, Panasonic, Fujifilm and Olympus.
Founded in 25 July 1917 as Nippon Kōgaku Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha (日本光学工業株式会社 "Japan Optical Industries Co., Ltd."), the company was renamed Nikon Corporation, after its cameras, in 1988. Nikon is one of the companies of the Mitsubishi Group.

This is always the question that fills my inbox, "Which camera is better, Nikon or Canon?". I decided to put together a video that discusses all the FULL Frame models against their counterparts on both sides. I want to point out that this time around it's just Nikon and Canon and in the future there will be other brands added to the battle. The goal with this video is to put the cameras head to head and give you the pros and cons of each. It is up to you to decide which one is for you or not for you. I know this is not an easy decision so I hope this video helps you decide. When you take a look at the current lineups as of Dec 2nd 2014 when this video was recorded you will notice that Nikon's is fresh and updated whereas Canon's is a little long in the tooth. That is not saying that one is better it's simply saying Nikon has updated their lineup more recently than Canon. The $6,500 D5 (http://sdp.io/D5) is Nikon's first 4K video camera, and it offers up to ISO 3,276,800--which is *7* stops beyond what the Sony a7R II (http://sdp.io/a7r2) offers. It's not the low-light champ you'd hope, though. Note: We tested the a7R II in full-frame mode, even though it offers 1 stop better quality in Super 35 mode. Nikon VS Canon the Ultimate battle to decide which one you should buy. This is always the question that fills my inbox, "Which camera is better, Nikon or Canon?". I decided to put together a video that discusses all the FULL Frame models against their counterparts on both sides.
I want to point out that this time around it's just Nikon and Canon and in the future there will be other brands added to the battle.
The goal with this video is to put the cameras head to head and give you the pros and cons of each. It is up to you to decide which one is for you or not for you. I know this is not an easy decision so I hope this video helps you decide.
When you take a look at the current lineups as of Dec 2nd 2014 when this video was recorded you will notice that Nikon's is fresh and updated whereas Canon's is a little long in the tooth. That is not saying that one is better it's simply saying Nikon has updated their lineup more recently than Canon. Keep in mind this is a never ending cycle that one company will have newer cameras before the other.
I took a look at the Nikon D4s, Nikon D810, Nikon D750, Nikon D610 and on the Canon side the Canon 1D X, Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 6D and the Canon 7D Mark II.

I just purchased the Nikon 24-70 2.8e VR lens form Allen's Camera and give it a proper unboxing and sniff test.
The original 24-70 2.8 was released close to eight years ago at the time of the D3's announcement. You would have thought the lens would have had an update sooner but it did not. This lens is not being discontinued as it falls $500 less expensive than the brand new VR Version.

The $6,500 D5 (http://sdp.io/D5) is Nikon's first 4K video camera, and it offers up to ISO 3,276,800--which is *7* stops beyond what the Sony a7R II (http://sdp.io/a7r2) offers. It's not the low-light champ you'd hope, though.
Note: We tested the a7R II in full-frame mode, even though it offers 1 stop better quality in Super 35 mode. We wanted to start testing with the worst case scenario for the Sony... but since it won even while handicapped, I don't see the need to continue testing.
The a7S offers another stop beyond that, so it would be about 2 stops better than the D5. The a7S II offers still another stop improvement, so it whould be about 3 stops cleaner than the D5.

This lens is meant for the run and gun photographer who one may not be able to afford a 300 2.8 at $6,000 or simply wants something smaller and lighter.
The older 300 F4 was much heavier and longer and more cumbersome to cary around. Nikon was able to shrink this bad boy down by using some new type of lens element called "Phase Fresnel" or PF for short. Nikon also added Vibration Reduction into this lens to allow for sharper handheld images at slower shutter speeds.
The first time I put this lens on my camera I was blown away by the fact that it really was a 300mm lens. I say that because it's so light, manageable and almost the same size as the 24-70mm 2.8.
If you are using this lens on a DX camera you will get the equivalent of a 450mm focal length at F4. That is a nice option to have if you're on a DX body and can afford the almost $2,000 price tag.
This is an expensive lens but in comparison to the 2.8 it's affordable and at times possibly a better option. One it actually fits in your bag and can be easily pulled out and ready to shoot in seconds. The 2.8 version takes time to set up and weights somewhere around six pounds.
Of course it's always a dilemma to decide what lens to take with you. I LOVE my 300 2.8 AFS VR II but if I want to move around with less gear I will toss this 300 F4E VR into my bag.
I personally bought one for my camera bag even though I own the 300 2.8 AFS VR II ($6,000). If that isn't a stamp of approval as to how good this lens is I'm not sure what is.
