The Doctors (Be My Lawyer SIngle)

Here's a cool Canadian two sider, that I basically couldn't find any info on. The Doctors may have been from Ontario but I'm guessing from the record label. Be my Lawyer is a solid Powerpop tune, while the flip, Hey You has a upbeat Punky, New Wave feel. Hey You is my pick of the two but both tunes are solid. I'm guessing the scarcity of info means this record is fairly rare so if anyone has any info on the band to share; I would appreciate it, Enjoy!

The Infidels were, (or are?) a great four piece from Youngstown, Ohio. They have at least: three full lengths, a couple of E.P's and a few singles to their credit. I can't speak for anything after the first Lp but all of their early releases are a must. I'm not sure but it looks as though they may still be at it; here's their Facebook Page.

The Vectors (The Vectors EP)

a repost, by request, originally posted 05/06/10, new rips and scans, enjoy!
The Vectors were from Fullerton, California. They first made their mark in 1979 by landing a spot with a novelty song called "Death To Disco" on the " Insane Darrell Wayne No Disco Album". After gaining airplay on KROQ, KNAC and several college radio stations, a permanent line-up was put together and they began gigging around Orange County, and Los Angeles. Although The Vectors earned a large following, major label success eluded them. I think sometime around 1981 they called it a day. I'm pretty sure their only releases were the Death To Disco Single, and this EP. Other than the comp track listed above, Hey Kirby also appeared on the "The Up Another Octave Transmission" comp. They have a Myspace , other than that there's not much on them.

The Braille Party was a Maryland three piece that left us with this lp and a couple of compilation tracks. Musically this record is all over the place. It ranges from dreamy pop, to blazing fast hardcore. Overall it's somewhat strange but, there are some really memorable songs that grow on you with every listen. My favorite has always been, Who's Patronizing Who. The great lyrics, swirling almost TSOL like guitars, and short bursts of speed, made(for me anyway) this an instant DC classic. I spent quite a while trying to separate these tracks. If it's not perfect I apologize.

The City Limits (Morse-Code Messages E.p)

I was introduced to this record a few years back by Bruce, who posted it on his excellent "My Life's A Jigsaw Blog. It became an instant favorite, from the moment I heard it and I've been trying to get a copy ever since. Unfortunately, it rarely shows up and when it has; my bankroll never seemed to coincide with it's appearance. Recently, the moon and the stars lined up and I was able to finally obtain a copy. To celebrate my acquisition, I've decided to post it here for you. If you've never heard this record, your in for a treat, Enjoy!
The City Limits were a five piece from Leeds, England; that were around in the late 70's. Unfortunately, this was their sole release. If you would like to read more about the band, check out Bruce's great post's HERE. I've been told, this may soon to be reissued on the Sing Sing Label and Queen Mum Records, so keep a look out!!

Krypton Tunes (First Two Singles)

Krypton Tunes were a Four piece from Wales that released three singles between 1977 and 1979. I've included their first two, for your listening pleasure. The first single comes with a red label and a blank white label. I'm not sure how many were pressed but I have both versions. I must admit, I've never heard the last one. If any of you are willing to share it with me, I'd love to hear it. All four of these tracks are crudely recorded, 77 style Punk smashers; Love It ! I found a disk you can buy, that includes all three singles. Check it out HERE.

a repost, by request, originally posted 11/18/09, new rips and scans, enjoy!
State of Alert, fronted by Henry Garfield, who would later rise to fame as Henry Rollins formed in October 1980. They released this ten song 7" ep and contributed three songs to the compilation Flex Your Head, both on Dischord Records. The EP was financed by Henry since Dischord wanted to afford releasing the first Minor Threat 7" as well. S.O.A. played a total of 12 gigs in and around the eastern US, their first on December 6, 1980, in Washington, D.C., and their last on July 10, 1981, in Philadelphia. After S.O.A Rollins joined Black Flag and then founded Rollins Band .Guitarist Michael Hampton went on to form The Faith in 1981 with Alec MacKaye (brother of Ian MacKaye, later in Ignition) who joined on vocals and Ivor Hansen, S.O.A.'s final drummer. Later Hampton went on to Embrace with Ian MacKaye in 1985, and One Last Wish with Guy Picciotto (Fugazi, Rites of Spring) and Brendan Canty (Deadline, Fugazi, Rites of Spring). Bass player Wendel Blow went on to play in Iron Cross and Lethal Intent.

The Nubs (Job Single)

a repost, by request, originally posted 11/16/11, new rips and scans, enjoy!
The Nubs were a three piece from San Francisco. As far as I know this was their only single. I found this page from a couple of years ago. At the time, they had reformed, been playing out, and released a CD, with this single, as well as a bunch of tracks that I think were recorded later. I've never heard the disc, and I'm not sure if it's still available, or even if The Nubs are still around or not. I know this one can be found other places on the net, but someday when it's time to put this blog to rest; It wouldn't be right to have not included this classic.

The Keys (The Keys Album)

a repost, by request, originally posted 8/20/09, new rips and scans.
The Keys Album is a true Powerpop classic; unfortunately, it has really bad production. It's thin sounding and tinny with very little bottom end, (check out You tube and you'll see what I mean). I don't usually like to eq records but this one was begging for it. Hopefully, I made it sound a little better, I tried. Songs like I don't wanna cry and, If it's not too much, are practically flawless examples of Powerpop at it's best. The Keys formed in London around 1979.They were, Drew Barfield, and Steve Tatler who played in a previous band together called John Doe. Ben Grove who played guitar for The Banned, and later the Retros, and ex-Wings drummer Geoff Britton who also later did a stint with Manfred Mans Earth Band. They were signed to A&M records and released the U.K. only LP “The Keys Album”. It was produced by Joe Jackson and drew rave reviews, but unfortunately it didn't sell very well. Besides the album, They also had six singles to their credit. Sadly due to a lack of interest The Keys split in 1983.

a repost, by request, originally posted 6/03/11, new rips and scans.
The Toasters were from LA California. They formed in 1979, and I'm pretty sure this was their only single. They also had a great track on "Waves" a comp from Bomp Records, that I included for your listening pleasure. I read in 1982, they recorded a demo for RCA Records. Unfortunately, they weren't picked up; and a year or two later, they disbanded. If anyone has a copy of the Demo, I'd love to hear it.

That Hideous Strength were a three piece from Brooklyn N.Y. I couldn't find much info on the band. They did release another single; But I don't remember ever hearing it. I'm not sure whether, or not this record was actually meant to be taken seriously but in my opinion, More Powerful Than A Steaming Locomotive, is pretty great and definitely the winner.

The Original Sins (Party's Over)

By request, a re-post, originally posted 4/18/11, New Rip.
Here's a band from my back yard, I had the pleasure of seeing live a few times over the years. The Original Sins were a four piece from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, that began around 1987. Their last LP was in 1997, but it's possible they may still get together once in a while in some form. John Terlesky also spent time in The Creatures, as well as a few other projects, such as : Fuzzface, Crush Nova, Suffacox, Brother JT, and Vibrolux. As of 2007 he was still releasing records under Brother JT, but I'm not sure if he's still doing that either. The sins released at least 9 full lengths, and a half a dozen singles. This is my favorite Sins record, oddly enough, it was released on the Australian Dog Meat Label. Party's Over is a compilation of songs, and unreleased outtakes from their The Hardest Way cd, as well as a remix from their 1987 Bar None Single. Here's a couple of articles you can check out.

The F Models (God Fearing Man)

The F Models were a four piece from Akron, Ohio; that were around in the early Eighties. Besides this record, they release one earlier single titled "Nobody Loves Me bw Russia Rocks" and had a track on the t.m.i. 015 compilation. The comp track is a primitive version of "It's Not Right", which I included with the download. Although the single version has better production; I'm not in love with the echo on the vocals. I think I prefer the comp version, it's raw and in your face. Sadly, Ig Nition passed away; here's a memorial page you can check out.

Youth Brigade (Sound And Fury, original version)

A repost, by request. Originally posted 11/16/08. New rip and scans, Enjoy!
Although this record is looked down on by some, I prefer it. I really like the in your face vocals , and a few of the tunes, that didn't make the cut like alienated make this a must.
Youth Brigade was formed in 1980, in Los Angeles amid the explosion of the Southern California punk scene by brothers Shawn, Mark, and Adam Stern. Shawn and Mark formed the Better Youth Organization in '79. They started off promoting shows, as they ran the infamous Godzilla's nightclub in 1981. They also started BYO Records in 1982, which has released 102 records to date.Youth Brigade played their first gig as a 3 piece(the bands first year of existence was as a 6 piece!) on New Year’s Eve ‘81/’82 at Godzilla’s. They were part of the big BYO extravaganza, “Youth Movement’82” at the Hollywood Palladium, where 3500 people showed up for an all L.A. bill in early February. Then they recorded 3 tracks for the first BYO record release, “Someone Got Their Head Kicked In”, and took off in their big yellow school bus on their first North American tour during summer of ‘82. 60 hours were documented on video tape to become the movie, "Another State of Mind"). After about 30 shows and several breakdowns (all documented on film!) they returned home to record their debut LP “Sound and Fury” (A premature version was rushed together before the tour but pressing was stopped at 800 copies as the band was not satisfied with the quality of the material or production.)

The Limit (Please Please Me Single)

The Limit formed in 1977, originally as The Freebies. I'm assuming they were from London? Just prior to the release of this single; they changed their name to The Limit. Unfortunately, it didn't sell very well and it looks as though the band parted ways by 1979. Dan Perdicou, (Guitar) later spent time in The Dark and Ray Burmiston, (Vocals) in The Passion Puppets. Ray is currently a Photographer, you can check him out HERE. I couldn't find any mention of the other band members ?

Positive Signals / The Strand - Split Single

Here's a nice split single featuring two Westminster (London) based bands. All four songs are solid but the standout in my opinion is definitely, "Only for a day", from Positive signals. If I didn't know better, I would guess it's an old Buzzcocks demo with Steve Diggle on vocals. I mean that as a compliment as I love the Buzzcocks; definitely catchy stuff. Ashton Liburd and Tony Doyle also played in Exposure and Two tribes. I couldn't really find anything on The Strand.

Visions (Something Like This Single)

This one's a  mystery to me. Other than a Ebay listing claiming it to be from the Midwest; all clues on the record go nowhere. Oh well, maybe someday, someone will weigh in with some info.
