VSM (Retd.) joined as the first regular Vice-Chancellor of the
Lala Lajpat Rai University of
Veterinary and
Animal Sciences,
Hisar on 21 June
2013.
Born on 28 March
1952 in
Narwana town of Distt.
Jind (
Haryana), Dr. Shri Kant graduated in
Veterinary Sciences from
College of
Veterinary Medicine,
Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar in
1974 and obtained
MVSc degree in the discipline of Bacteriology and Hygiene with prestigious
Junior Research Fellowship of
ICAR in
1976. He was commissioned in the Remount and
Veterinary Corps as
Lieutenant on
22 November 1976.
Dr. Shri Kant continually improved his professional knowledge and skills in tune with the ‘
Oath of
Veterinarian’ taken at the time of his graduation, even while serving as officer in
RVC in different capacities. He has the distinction of qualifying various international/ national courses of repute like
Federation Equestre Internationale (
FEI)
Event Veterinarian
Course (
Hong Kong), Equine
Medical Director Course (
University of Kentucky,
USA), Panel Veterinarian (RWITC),
Ministry of Agriculture,
Govt. of India, besides several army courses at RVC centre and college. He has the honour of qualifying prestigious
Senior Defence Management Course (SDMC) from
College of Defence Management,
Secunderabad.
In a sterling military career, Gen Shri Kant has held numerous Regimental, Staff and Instructional appointments with rare distinction. He has remarkable honour of commanding RVC centre and college,
Meerut, an almamater of RVC.
Gen. Shri Kant also served as
Pioneer Instructor on
Biological Warfare in the Faculty of
NBC Protection,
College of Military Engineering, Pune where he had the singular distinction of teaching medical aspect of
NBC warfare to students of all
Arms/ Services including senior officers of the ranks of Brigadiers and
Major Generals.
Dr. Shri Kant has widely travelled abroad and has visited several countries viz.
Australia,
England,
France,
Belgium,
Germany, USA and many more. He participated in
International Veterinary
Seminar, organized by
Sydney Organizing Committee for
Olympic Games, Australia in the year
1999 and also visited
Centre for
Infectious Disease Control,
Lelystad,
Netherland in
2007.
Exceptional dedication of Gen Shri Kant to veterinary profession earned him laudable recognition and awards. Because of his outstanding contributions and achievements in the area of veterinary science, he was admitted as Fellow of
National Academy of Veterinary Sciences in
2002.
Indian Society for Advancement of
Canine Practice also conferred upon Maj Gen Shri Kant the fellowship of the society, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to canine practice in particular, on 6 Feb. 2013.
For his meritorious services rendered in Equine
Breeding Stud, Remount and Veterinary Corps, Hisar, Dr. Shri Kant was awarded with prestigious
SENA MEDAL (SM) by
President of India on
Republic Day during 2004.Further, he was again honoured by President of India with VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL (VSM) on 26 Jan
2012 for his outstanding services rendered in RVC
Center and College,
Meerut Cantt. as Commandant. He has this rare distinction of being the only RVC officer and Non
Head of
Service who was awarded twice by President of India.
