One of Kindisch's first releases of the year has come to us via the duo known as Bedouin. After their 'Mirage EP' that dropped last summer causing some serious waves in electronic music ... Tamer Malki, along with partner Rami Abousabe have served up their new EP called 'Whispering Words of Wisdom‘, as their first joint venture for Kindisch.
Slow-moving and ethereal, ‚Whispering Words of Wisdom EP‘ features four tracks that take us from ‚Walk Away’ warped, grungy strings to ‚Now Or Never' phantasmagoric bells and ghostly duet vocals through to ‚Metaphor' aquatic atmospheres, only to finish on ‚Turn The Tides, a track previously featured on Get Physical Music Presents: Hausmusik Vol. 1 last year and a perfect closing to this spaced-out, almost narcotic journey of sounds.
Available on digital as well as vinyl release, Bedouin have made sure to produce an EP made for leaving that needle running.

Archaeologists say that the ancient city of Petra dates back to the third century BC. The famous site in the south of Jordan, which was once occupied by the Romans, is today one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Al B'doul, a Bedouin tribe that used to live in Petra, claim to be descended from the Nabataeans who occupied this land at the end of the Roman Empire. They lived among the tombs and caves for over 170 years. But after Petra became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the mid-1980s, many B'doul were forced to abandon their semi-nomadic life for the nearby, purpose-built settlement of Umm Sayhoun, where they still live today. The B'doul go to Petra every day to act as tour guides and provide local colour - from music and entertainment to camel and donkey rides. They feel a strong attachment to the site, and some still cling to Bedouin life in the ancient valley. In this Al Jazeera Documentary film shot in Petra, we explore the history, traditions and daily lives of the B'doul, particularly the challenges they face as Bedouins in a tourism centre in present-day Jordan.

The Arab Bedouin minority of the Negev Desert faces harsh discrimination within the Arab population and within Israeli society as a whole. Last year, VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky traveled to the Negev to visit the Bedouin communities as they fought the Israeli government's decision to forcibly displace them. The plan, which the United Nations labeled as "ethnic displacing," would have affected up to 40,000 Bedouins in the area. But when tensions reached a boiling point amid protests in December, the plan was placed on hold. Bedouins have been living in the Negev for centuries, and as they continue to be marginalized, they are now beginning to fight back.

The Bedouin (
/ˈbɛdʉ.ɪn/; from the Arabic badawī بَدَوِي, pl. badū بَدْو or al-badaw البَدَوِ) are a part of a predominantly desert-dwelling Arabian ethnic group traditionally divided into tribes or clans, known in Arabic as ʿašāʾir (عَشَائِر).
The term "Bedouin" derives from a plural form of the Arabic word badawī, as it is pronounced in colloquial dialects. The Arabic term badawī derives from the word bādiyah (بَادِية), which means semiarid desert (as opposed to ṣaḥrāʾ صَحْرَاء, which means very arid desert). The term "Bedouin" therefore means, "those in bādiyah" or "those in the desert".
Starting in the late nineteenth century, many Bedouin under British rule began to transit to a seminomadic life. In the 1950s and 1960s, large numbers of Bedouin throughout Midwest Asia started to leave the traditional, nomadic life to settle in the cities of Midwest Asia, especially as hot ranges have shrunk and populations have grown. For example, in Syria the Bedouin way of life effectively ended during a severe drought from 1958 to 1961, which forced many Bedouin to abandon herding for standard jobs. Similarly, governmental policies in Egypt and Israel, oil production in the Persian Gulf, as well as a desire for improved standards of living, effectively led most Bedouin to become settled citizens of various nations, rather than stateless nomadic herders. Governmental policies pressing the Bedouin have in some cases been executed in an attempt to provide service (schools, health-care, law enforcement and so on—see Chatty 1986 for examples), but in others have been based on the desire to seize land traditionally roved and controlled by the Bedouin. In recent years, the Bedouin have adopted the pastime of raising and breeding white doves.

Last year, VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky traveled to the Negev to visit the Bedouin communities as they fought the Israeli government's decision to forcibly displace them. The plan, which the United Nations labeled as "ethnic displacing," would have affected up to 40,000 Bedouins in the area. But when tensions reached a boiling point amid protests in December, the plan was placed on hold. Slow-moving and ethereal, ‚Whispering Words of Wisdom EP‘ features four tracks that take us from ‚Walk Away’ warped, grungy strings to ‚Now Or Never' phantasmagoric bells and ghostly duet vocals through to ‚Metaphor' aquatic atmospheres, only to finish on ‚Turn The Tides, a track previously featured on Get Physical Music Presents: Hausmusik Vol. 1 last year and a perfect closing to this spaced-out, almost narcotic journey of sounds.

Archaeologists say that the ancient city of Petra dates back to the third century BC. The famous site in the south of Jordan, which was once occupied by the Romans, is today one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Al B'doul, a Bedouin tribe that used to live in Petra, claim to be descended from the Nabataeans who occupied this land at the end of the Roman Empire. They lived among the tombs and caves for over 170 years. But after Petra became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the mid-1980s, many B'doul were forced to abandon their semi-nomadic life for the nearby, purpose-built settlement of Umm Sayhoun, where they still live today. The B'doul go to Petra every day to act as tour guides and provide local colour - from music and entertainment to camel and donkey rides. They feel a strong attachment to the site, and some still cling to Bedouin life in the ancient valley. In this Al Jazeera Documentary film shot in Petra, we explore the history, traditions and daily lives of the B'doul, particularly the challenges they face as Bedouins in a tourism centre in present-day Jordan.

The Arab Bedouin minority of the Negev Desert faces harsh discrimination within the Arab population and within Israeli society as a whole. Last year, VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky traveled to the Negev to visit the Bedouin communities as they fought the Israeli government's decision to forcibly displace them. The plan, which the United Nations labeled as "ethnic displacing," would have affected up to 40,000 Bedouins in the area. But when tensions reached a boiling point amid protests in December, the plan was placed on hold. Bedouins have been living in the Negev for centuries, and as they continue to be marginalized, they are now beginning to fight back.
