A controversial Japanese artist who created feminist artworks based on moulds of her vagina has announced her engagement to the lead singer of The Waterboys, Mike Scott.
Megumi Igarashi, who calls herself Rokudenashiko, or good-for-nothing girl, met the Scottish-born musician in 2014 when a campaign protesting her arrest on obscenity charges went viral.
She has thanked police for bringing the pair together and invited Tokyo's police prosecutors and arresting officers to her wedding.
Igarashi has long challenged Japan's censorship laws and her society's vilification of the female body. In July 2014, Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested Igarashi for allegedly for distributing obscene materials.
She is said to have used 3-D printing technology to scan her genitals as part of plans to build a fully functional kayak modelled on her vagina, and sent the images to supporters, according to The Tokyo Reporter.
Released after five days, Igarashi was arrested again that December for displaying a plaster cast of her vagina in an exhibition at an adult shop in Bunkyo Ward.
A verdict on Igarashi's case is due to be handed down on May 9. She is facing up to two years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
Igarashi, who insists her art is not obscene, announced the pending nuptials on the Japanese video server, Niconico Live.
"I would like to thank the police from the bottom of my heart for this relationship, because it all started when news about my arrest went viral," she tweeted on Thursday.
"For my wedding ceremony, I would like to invite the prosecutors who indicted me, as well as the police."
