Le Mat Trophy

The Le Mat Trophy (Swedish: Le Mat-pokalen) is the trophy awarded to Swedish champions in ice hockey, which since 1975 has been the winners of the SHL playoffs.

The Le Mat is the oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in Sweden. The trophy was donated by the founding father of ice hockey in Sweden, Raoul Le Mat, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. in 1926. Since then, the silver cup has been modified and features now a lid with two crossed ice hockey sticks and an oak base. The cup is 20.5 inches (52 cm) high and weighs 118 ounces (3.34 kg).

The cup used today is a copy of the original trophy due to the theft of the original in the beginning of the 1950s. The current cup is an exact copy of the original and was made by Juvelerare Markström in Uppsala, Sweden, right after the theft.

A person is a being, such as a human, that has certain capacities or attributes constituting personhood, which in turn is defined differently by different authors in different disciplines, and by different cultures in different times and places. In ancient Rome, the word persona (Latin) or prosopon (πρόσωπον; Greek) originally referred to the masks worn by actors on stage. The various masks represented the various "personae" in the stage play.

The concept of person was developed during the Trinitarian and Christological debates of the 4th and 5th centuries in contrast to the word nature. During the theological debates, some philosophical tools (concepts) were needed so that the debates could be held on common basis to all theological schools. The purpose of the debate was to establish the relation, similarities and differences between the Λóγος/Verbum and God. The philosophical concept of person arose, taking the word "prosopon" (πρόσωπον) from the Greek theatre. Therefore, Christus (the Λóγος/Verbum) and God were defined as different "persons". This concept was applied later to the Holy Ghost, the angels and to all human beings.

St. Vincent de Paul (24 April 1581 – 27 September 1660) was a French Roman Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. He was canonized in 1737. He was renowned for his compassion, humility, and generosity and is known as the "Great Apostle of Charity".

Life

Vincent was born in 1581 in the village of Pouy in Gascony, in the Province of Guyenne and Gascony, the Kingdom of France, to peasant farmers, father Jean and mother Bertrande de Moras de Paul. There was in the vicinity, a stream named the "Paul" and it is believed that this might have been the derivation of the family name. He wrote the name as one word – Depaul, possibly to avoid the inference that he was of noble birth, but none of his correspondents did so. He had three brothers – Jean, Bernard and Gayon, and two sisters – Marie and Marie-Claudine. He was the third child. At an early age, he showed a talent for reading and writing but during his childhood, his work was as a herder of his family's livestock. At 15, his father sent him to seminary, managing to pay for it by selling the family’s oxen.

American Graffiti is a 1973 American coming of age comedy-drama film directed and co-written by George Lucas starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Mackenzie Phillips and Wolfman Jack. Suzanne Somers has a cameo. Set in Modesto, California in 1962, the film is a study of the cruising and rock and roll cultures popular among the post–World War II baby boom generation. The film is told in a series of vignettes, telling the story of a group of teenagers and their adventures over a single evening.

The genesis of American Graffiti was in Lucas' own teenage years in early 1960s Modesto. He was unsuccessful in pitching the concept to financiers and distributors but found favor at Universal Pictures after United Artists, 20th Century Fox, Columbia Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Warner Bros., and Paramount Pictures turned him down. Filming was initially set to take place in San Rafael, California, but the production crew was denied permission to shoot beyond a second day.

Paul Le Mat Interview - Thoughts On American Graffiti - 2012
This last weekend actor Paul Le Mat was in Modesto, California for the 39th anniversary celebration of the movie, American Graffiti. American Graffiti was based on George Lucas' experiences growing up in Modesto which is the reason the town celebrates the movie every year in June. Blog Planet caught up with Paul Le Mat at one of Modesto's several American Graffiti Car Shows in order to bring you this interview with the TV and Film legend. Paul Le Mat (born September 22, 1945) is an American actor who first came to prominence in the 1973 film American Graffiti, which won him the Golden Globe Award for New Star Of The Year - Actor. Le Mat was born to Matthew (1914--1963) and Paula Le Mat (1912--1990). He is of French, Scottish, English, Cuban, and Irish descent. He graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1963, and, although he never received a degree, he attended various colleges in California. A Vietnam veteran, Le Mat was awarded the National Defense Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He is married to Suzanne de Passe and they have three daughters. Le Mat starred in the pilot episode of Firehouse in 1973. The same year, he appeared in American Graffiti, a coming of age film about a group of friends in Modesto, California in the early 1960s. He played John Milner - a role that would earn him his first Golden Globe Award. The film went on to receive universal acclaim, and was a box office hit. Le Mat also starred in Floyd Mutrux's 1975 crime spree film Aloha, Bobby and Rose. In 1977, he starred in Jonathan Demme's acclaimed comedy, Handle with Care, which was later re-titled Citizens Band, which saw him reunite with his American Graffiti co-star Candy Clark. Le Mat would reunite with Demme for 1980's Melvin and Howard, in which he played the titular role of Melvin Dummar. The film was based upon the true story of a gas station attendant who claimed to be an heir of eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes, and won two Academy Awards. It was met with rave reviews from Pauline Kael and other top film critics, and Le Mat was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. In 1979, Le Mat reprised his role of John Milner in More American Graffiti. In 1982, Le Mat played the Donald E. Westlake character John Dortmunder in Jimmy the Kid, opposite Gary Coleman in the role of Jimmy. He also provided the voice of Omar in the American release of the animated film Rock & Rule. Le Mat starred in the made-for-TV movie The Burning Bed opposite Farrah Fawcett. The film was based on the true story of an abusive husband who drives his wife to drastic measures with his aggressive ways. Le Mat was awarded the second Golden Globe Award of his career for his role in the film. He would go on to star in other television films such as The Night They Saved Christmas, Into the Homeland and Secret Witness. He appeared in the TV miniseries On Wings of Eagles, and in the film Puppet Master . In the 1990s, Le Mat would continue to work on independent films and TV movies. He played Josiah Peale in Lonesome Dove: The Series, and in the follow-up Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years. He had a small role in the 1998 film American History X. More recently, Le Mat starred in the film Stateside. Après 17 ans d´interruption et à l´occasion du 400e anniversaire de l´arrivée de saint Vincent de Paul dans leur commune, les Châtillonnais font redécouvrir durant le mois de juillet l´une des grandes figures spirituelles du XVIIe siècle, apôtre infatigable de la Charité, dont la vie entière fut donnée aux pauvres. Dans l´enceinte des ruines du château, ils proposent un spectacle son et lumière grandiose. Xavier Arlot, le metteur en scène, invite ainsi les spectateurs à entrer dans les pas de Vincent de Paul, pour mieux découvrir sa spiritualité et ses oeuvres. Reportage du 13/07/2017.

En 2010, à l'occasion du 350e anniversaire de la mort de Saint Vincent de Paul (27 septembre 1660) et de Sainte Louise de Marillac (15 mars 1660), l'Institut pour les Etudes Vincentiennes de l'Université DePaul a lancé le projet de créer le premier long-métrage sur Saint Vincent et Sainte Louise. « Vincent de Paul : le Saint de la Charité » est le fruit remarquable de cet effort. Le documentaire a été réalisé en tenant compte de quatre objectifs spécifiques : Distinguer le Vincent « mythique » du Vincent « historique ». Situer Vincent de Paul dans le contexte historique du 17e siècle français. Redécouvrir le rôle de Louise de Marillac et des femmes dans la fondation de la tradition vincentienne.
