Doreen Gentzler (born 1957) is an American television news anchor. She is a 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news anchor at WRC-TV, alongside co-anchor Jim Vance.
Gentzler was raised in Arlington, Virginia until her family moved to South Carolina. Her family came back to the area when she left for college at the University of Georgia.
Gentzler is married to Bill Miller, a former reporter and editor at The Washington Post, who specialized in law enforcement coverage. They have two children: son named Chris (b. 1991) and daughter Carson (b. 1994). Gentzler lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Gentzler began her career as the host of Georgia Public Broadcasting's weeknight show The Lawmakers, broadcast during sessions of the Georgia State Legislature, around 1979.
Gentzler first worked at Cleveland, Ohio's NBC affiliate WKYC-TV. There she anchored the 6pm and 11pm newscasts. From 1979 to 1983, she co-anchored the 6pm and 11pm newscasts at WSOC-TV, the ABC affiliate in Charlotte, North Carolina. Next she worked at Philadelphia's WCAU-TV, which was then a CBS affiliate, on the crime beat.
Jim Vance (born January 11, 1942 in Ardmore, Pennsylvania) is an American television news anchor in Washington, D.C.
Vance grew up in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, a suburb west of Philadelphia. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Cheyney University, a historically black university in Cheyney, Pennsylvania. Vance taught English for three years in a Philadelphia junior high before making the leap to television.
Vance currently anchors the 6 p.m. edition of News4 on WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. He retired from anchoring the 11 p.m. edition of the news in May 2015. He has worked for WRC-TV since 1969, and in 1972, he became the station's main co-anchor, as one of the first African Americans to serve in this position at any American television station. Between 1972 and 1976, he worked as co-anchor with Glenn Rinker at WRC-TV-4. Between 1976 and 1980, Vance co-anchored with Sue Simmons, a pairing that resulted in one of the first, if not the first, African-American co-anchors of a major market newscast. Since 1989, he has been part of currently the longest-running anchor team in Washington, alongside co-anchor and health reporter Doreen Gentzler. He is famous on the Internet for appearing in a video with the late sports anchor George Michael where they laughed at a model who fell twice on a runway.
Doug Kammerer is the current chief meteorologist at WRC-TV in Washington, DC. He joined WRC in 2010, when he replaced Bob Ryan. He has also worked in Macon, Georgia, Jacksonville, Florida, Orlando and Philadelphia.
Kammerer is a native of Herndon, Virginia. He is a graduate of Herndon High School and the University of Northern Colorado.
Vance doesn't know which way the sun sets.
