"I don't think it's possible without involving Hamas.
I don't care if Hamas represents 10-percent of the
Palestinian people, or 42-percent, 44-percent. It doesn't matter to me. But to have them completely excluded even from conversations or consultations - I think it's counterproductive."

STORYLINE:
Four Hamas gunmen and three Israeli soldiers have been killed in fighting in at least two parts of the Gaza Strip early on Wednesday, Hamas and
Israel's army said in a sharp escalation in hostilities.
At least five
Palestinians were injured in the clashes which occurred at several points in the Gaza Strip, a sovereign coastal territory that borders
Israel, Hamas and medics said.
The
Israeli army spokesman said the three soldiers were killed during a clash in central Gaza near the
Israeli border.
Israeli troops had entered the central Gaza Strip after
midnight in what the military spokesman said was a routine operation to target militants launching rockets.
Troops exchanged fire with Hamas militants at several points, and identified hitting them, the army said.
Israeli aircraft also fired at a group of gunmen, the army said.
Throughout the fighting, Palestinians fired rockets and mortar shells toward southern Israel, Israel's army said.
