Josh Kalis (born April 27, 1976) is a professional skateboarder who specializes in "street skateboarding". Kalis was sponsored by Alien Workshop for a significant period of time before switching to board sponsor, DGK, in 2009.
Kalis was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, US.
Alongside Stevie Williams (founder of DGK), Kalis is well known for his involvement in the "LOVE Park" scene in Philadelphia, US, during the late 1990s. LOVE Park (its official name is JFK Plaza) is an inner-city public park situated at the intersection of 16th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Center City Philadelphia. Kalis can be seen skating the park in the following videos: Photosynthesis, The DC Video, and Time Code.
Prior to joining the Alien Workshop team, Kalis was planning to collaborate with fellow professional skateboarder Mark Appleyard on their own board company. Following his eventual recruitment to the team, Kalis and Rob Dyrdek then facilitated the recruitment of Anthony Van Engelen (AVE).
The Berrics is a privately owned, indoor skatepark owned by professional skateboarders Steve Berra and Eric Koston. It is also a website providing content filmed in the skatepark, as well other skateboard-related media. The facility's name is a portmanteau of the owners' names (the "Ber" of Berra's surname and the "ric" of Koston's first name).
In an interview with Pop magazine, Berra revealed that prior to the launch of The Berrics, he had been offered a million-dollar deal to direct a film based on a screenplay that he had written. Due to filming commitments for his skateboard deck sponsor, Alien Workshop, Berra declined the offer and later commenced work on The Berrics concept following a period of reflection:
All I wanted to do is I knew we have this hook because there were a lot of kids that always would ask Eric and I about our building. “Someday I’ll come to your skate park,” everywhere, all over the world.
That was minimal exposure of it. I realized we were on to something, like a Studio 54, and I was sitting there one day as I was skating and I think it was Andrew Reynolds that I’d seen do a heel flip backside tailslide on the ledge. It was so perfect and awesome. I never left Nebraska mentally to a degree, like I’m still a fan of anyone who skates incredible, ends up just skating.
So if a kid from Nebraska could see how being on this side of the baker’s window, if he could see what goes on here and how we make the bread, and what temperature we cook the bread at, they would be psyched. I just started coming up with ideas of what we could do.Josh is a diminutive of the given name Joshua. "Josh" may also refer to:
Mike Blabac (born January 18, 1974) is an ice sledge hockey player from USA who has competed at the Winter Paralympics. He plays as a goaltender. Blabac was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001.
In 2008 he played for the United States as they won third-place in the World Sledge Hockey Challenge.
He took part in the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver, where USA won gold. They beat Japan 2-0 in the final.
Throwbacks is the final album recorded by Nat & Alex Wolff under the name "The Naked Brothers Band" and the soundtrack to the third and final season of the show of the same name. Under the working title "Songs of Season 3," due to post-production problems, it was originally cancelled, until it was announced on September 19, 2013 to be released as a Nat & Alex Wolff album instead of a Naked Brothers Band album on October 15, 2013, under the title Throwbacks. One song that was recorded for the intended Season 3 soundtrack, "Face in the Hall", which later appeared in the iCarly soundtrack, will not be in the Throwbacks album.
Nat Wolff developed a lot while writing the soundtrack. He had developed a lot as a song[-writer] since the band's second album, which was released earlier the same year. Many songs from the album had a sense that the writer(s) were inspired by old artists, such as the track "The World (As We Know It Today)" was a modern version of Billy Joel's song We Didn't Start the Fire. The song "Yes We Can" (which features Natasha Bedingfield and Leon Thomas III) was inspired by the presidency of Barack Obama.
There will never be another Josh Kalis, and certainly nobody will be able to impact skating like this skate rat turned icon did in ushering in the golden era of LOVE Park. His bump-to-can images will forever be etched into skateboard legend as an immortal frame of its history. And with so many great video parts under his belt we had to ask: what gets Josh Kalis out of bed to be a part of this whole thing? It's not only to represent the brands he's riding for, but to show the future generation of skaters that if you stay true to who you are and seize the right opportunities, “You can damn-straight make a career out of skateboarding.” This entire week is dedicated to the enduring symbol of downtown skate-culture, Josh Kalis. VICE interviews pro skateboarder Josh Kalis about his early days street skating in his hometown. For more skateboarding action, check out VICE's Epicly Later'd: http://vice.com/epicly-later-d The Kalis series finally begins. Right off the bat, Josh clears up a few issues for everybody and we get right into things with how it all got started in Grand Rapids. Sean Sheffey appears and lets us know that Josh has always been a well respected skater, and Mike Blabac recalls when Josh helped him learn how to use his camera. Ted Lee provided the archival footage of a young Kalis, and if there had been more time we would have loved to show more of Ted's incredible old footage that includes a New Deal demo with Ed Templeton and Mike Vallely. Enjoy.
Some video parts have a trick-by-trick blueprint laid out before they're even filmed. Josh narrates his Alien Workshop part from 2000, which showcases how he skates every day and why he's a legend.

Most Hollywood car chases are shot here in Downtown LA and they never make sense (why would there even be a fruit cart on 7th street anyway?). Kalis and Tiago went Off The Grid and shot their own chase Downtown, complete with all of the everyday pedestrian chaos, dodging cars, and their boards shooting out into the street. For more skateboarding action, check out VICE's Epicly Later'd: http://vice.com/epicly-later-d The grand finale for what seems to be one of our most fan-approved series is here. It is hard to try to fit in all the events in 18 years of someone's life, but we tried. Some might be wondering where all the Chicago talk is or why we didn't go into Seek. The short answer for Chicago is that we ran out of time, but not without a valiant effort from the Uprise Skateshop crew, especially Jonathan Methvin and Justin Edwards. As for Seek, you'll just have to wait for Stevie's series. Please enjoy the episode.

My heart is restless in me
My wings are all worn out
I'm walking in the wilderness
And I cannot get out
I need You, Oh, I need You
Blessed Savior come
I need You, Oh, I need You
Fill the every longing of my soul
Oh, how I need You, Lord
I need Your perfect Word
With tearful eyes to see
The sin that I afford
I need to weep and pray
For all the thousand ways
That I have failed You just today
My bed is soaked with sadness
My sadness has no end
A downward spiral of despair
And I keep falling in
I need You, Oh, I need You
To You my soul shall fly
I need You, Oh, I need You
Yaweh, how I love You more than life
Oh, how I need You, Lord
I need Your perfect Word
With tearful eyes to see
The sin that I afford
I need to weep and pray
For all the thousand ways
That I have failed You just today
Your silence is like death to me
So won't You hear my desperate plea
Today my soul is soaring
Way over mountains high
Though I can see the valleys,
They're all just passing by
It's not that I am stronger
Look at my feeble wings
But I've been lifted higher
Yaweh's lifted me in His own strength
Oh, how I love You, Lord
I love Your perfect Word
With tearful eyes to see
The God who always will endure
Now I will celebrate
For all the thousand ways
That You have shown me grace
And made my heart in grace to stay
You've made my heart in grace to stay
